  • This study explores the life quality(LQ) of Korean married women compared to Korean married men's LQ, examines personal factors' and home environmental factors' influences to Korean married women's LQ via psychological factors such as social belongingness, positive emotion, self-esteem, and sense of intemal control in causal model, and explores Korean married women's perceived important factors and perceived enhancement required factors in life. The questionnaire was administered to 941 Korean married women and their husbands who have one or more children in Pusan. The results indicated that: 1. The overal and most sub dimensional LQ of Korean married women mark medium level and were lower than that of Korean married men's. Korean married women who is highly educated, keeps efficient communication with their husband, self-esteem, sense of internal control, social belongingness, and positive emotion, and possess high SES and much available resources shows higher LQ than those who doesn't. 2. The efficient communication with husband and available resources have direct and indirect influences on Korean married women's LQ. The psychological mediatory factors of these two variables' influences on women's LQ are such as social belongingness, positive emotion, self-esteem and sense of intemal control. SES has direct influence only and the educational level has indirect influence via social belongingness only on Korean married women's LQ. All these factors explain 58% of Korean married women's LQ variance. 3. Korean married women rank family health, family reconciliation, husband's success, and children's achievement as the very important factors in life. They also rank husbands success, economic abundant, family reconciliation, family health, and their self-actualization as the very required factors for enhancing the given LQ.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimum condition for sap exudation of Acer mono Max. tree in a site of Mt. Jiri, Hamyang-gun, Korea. Amount of sap exudation, air temperature, relative air humidity, tree diameter at breast height (DBH) and sugar content in sap were monitored during the early springtime, and correlation analysis of several factors was carried out to explain tree-to-tree and date-to-date variations in sap exudation. The correlation, linearlyassociated between DBH and sap amount, was strengthened as daily amount of sap increased, but there was no significant tree-to-tree variation in time and period for sap exudation. When amount of sap exudation was above 10 liter/day, the mean air-temperature was averaged at $1.2{\pm}1.6^{\circ}C$, the minimum at $-4.3{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$ and the maximum at $11.8{\pm}1.9^{\circ}C$. The maximum air temperature and mean air temperature were significant (p < 0.05) factors for amount of sap in correlation analysis to explain date-to-date variation in sap exudation. Sucrose content in sap was in the range of 1.5 and 1.7% during exudation days, but sharply reduced to 0.6% level at the end of exudation period.

  • Purpose : Our aim was to investigate the predictive factors for detecting grade III-V vesicoureteral reflux(VUR) in young infants less than 3 months with urinary tract infections (UTI). Methods : Data of infants who underwent ultrasonography and VCUG between January 2004 and September 2007 were reviewed. Age, gender, incidence of bacteremia, C-reactive protein(CRP) and imaging studies were compared between group I(grade III-V VUR) and group II (normal or grade I and II VUR) retrospectively. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, odds ratio, and likelihood ratio of ultrasonography for high grade VUR were evaluated. Results : Among 54 enrolled infants(41 males, 13 females), 14 infants were group I and 40 infants were group II. In the group I, CRP level was significantly higher(6.11$\pm$5.18 vs. 3.27$\pm$3.45, P=0.025), and there were more ultrasonographic abnormal findings(71.4%, vs. 22.5%, P=0.002) compared with group II. However, ultrasonography was the only significant factor after adjusting with logistic regression(P=0.002). Incidence of bacteremia and abnormal DMSA findings were not significantly different in two groups. Sensitivity, specificity, and odds ratio of ultrasonography was 71.4%, 77.5%, 6.9 respectively. Negative predictive value was 88.6% and negative likelihood ratio was 0.37. Ultrasonography had significant negative likelihood ratio for grade III-V VUR, but missed 4 infants with grade III VUR. Conclusion : We could not find any alternative predictive factors to reduce VCUG in detecting high grade VUR. Therefore, VCUG must be considered in young infants less than 3 months with UTI.

  • Recruiting and maintaining capable IS personnel is crucial to on-time application developments and information services that can gear to corporate strategic planning and to achieve corporate goals and objectives. A shortage of fine IS staff has been always a threat to providing satisfactory IS services and a constraint that holds companies back to expand further and operate more efficiently. Therefore, it is necessary to understand factors that satisfy IS personnel and then restrain them not to leave their current job positions. However, little study has been done about what these factors are and how these factors are related to the turnover intention each other especially using domestic data. Therefore, this study suggested a structural turnover intention model and investigated relationships among the selected factors including demographic variables, career-related variables, job satisfaction, career satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intentions. Major findings are: i) overall, career-related variables, job satisfaction and organizational commitment significantly determine the turnover intention, ii) contrary to the U.S. studies, our IS people tend to show lower organizational commitment as they become older and get more experience, and iii) contrary to the U.S.'s findings, career-related variables are negatively related to organizational commitment. Implications and discussions of these findings are also described.

  • Radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis are major complications for patients with cervical carcinoma following radiotherapy. In the present study, we aimed to determine the potential risk factors for the development of radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis after irradiation. A total of 1,518 patients with cervical carcinoma received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) followed by high-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy (HDRICB) in our hospital. The incidences of radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis were recorded and associations with different factors (age, time period, tumor stage) were analyzed with ${\chi}^2$ (chi-squared) and Fisher exact tests. We found that 161 and 94 patients with cervical carcinoma were diagnosed with radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis, respectively, following radiotherapy. The prevalence of Grade I-II radiation proctitis or radiation cystitis was significantly lower than that of Grade III (radiation proctitis: 3.82% vs. 6.76%, P < 0.05; radiation cystitis: 2.31% vs. 3.87%, P < 0.05) and was significantly enhanced in patients with late stage (IIIb) tumor progression compared to those in early stage (Ib, IIa) (P < 0.05). Moreover, the incidence of radiation proctitis and cystitis was not correlated with age or, time period following radiation, for each patient (P > 0.05). These observations indicate that a late stage of tumor progression is a potential risk factor for the incidence of radiation proctitis and cystitis in cervical carcinoma patients receiving radiotherapy.

  • Background: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of distearoylphosphatidylcholine pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (DPLD) combined with carboplatin for the treatment of platinum resistant or refractory epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) or fallopian tube cancer. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of women who received DPLD with carboplatin for recurrent EOC or fallopian tube cancer in King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital Thailand from January 2006 to August 2011 was conducted. Patients were identified from the medical records and data on demographic factors, stage, histology, surgical findings, cytoreduction status, and prior chemotherapies were abstracted. The efficacy and toxicity of DPLD/carboplatin were evaluated. Progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: A total of 65 patients, 64 with platinum resistant or refractory epithelial ovarian cancer and 1 with fallopian tube cancer, were enrolled. DPLD and carboplatin were given for an average of 4.46 cycles per patient with a total of 273 cycles. Among the 65 evaluable patients, 0% achieved CR, 7.69% PR, 15.4% SD and 76.% PD. The overall response rate was 23.1%. With a median follow-up of 27.4 months, the median progression-free and median overall survival in the 36 patients was 4.46 months and 8.76 months respectively. In the aspect of side effects, palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE) occurred in 33.3% (Grade I 22.2%, Grade II 11.1%) and mucositis in 41.7% (Grade I 27.8%, Grade II 13.9%) of all treatment cycles, all Grade 1 or 2. Anemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia occurred in 58.3% (Grade I 41.7%, Grade II 16.7%), 66.7% (Grade I 47.2%, Grade II 19.4%), and 22.2% (Grade I 16.6%, Grade II 5.56%) of cycle respectively, and were mostly Grade 1 or 2. Conclusions: DPLD, the second-generation PLD drug combined with carboplatin every 4 weeks, is effective and has low toxicity for treatment of patients with recurrent platinum-resistant or refractory epithelial ovarian cancer.
