Effects of the Cu and K addition and the reduction condition of Fe-based catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch reaction are studied in a continuous flow reactor in this research. The catalysts for the reaction were prepared by homogeneous precipitation followed by incipient wetness impregnation. Physicochemical properties of the $Al_2O_3$ supported Fe-based catalysts are characterized by various methods including X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Catalytic activities and stabilities of the Fe/Cu/K catalyst are investigated in time-on-stream for an extended reaction time over 216 h. It is found that a reduction of the catalysts using a mixture of CO and $H_2$ can promote their catalytic activities, attributed to the iron carbides formed on the catalysts surface by X-ray diffraction analysis. The addition of Cu induces a fast stabilization of the reaction reducing the time to reach at the steady state by enhancement of catalytic reduction. The addition of K to the catalysts increases the CO conversion, while the physical stability of catalyst decreases with potassium loading up to 5%. The Fe/Cu (5%)/K (1%) catalyst shows an enhanced long term stability for the Fischer-Tropsch reaction under the practical reaction condition, displaying about 15% decrease in the CO conversion after 120 h of the operation.
We investigated hydrogen storage and production properties using redox system of iron oxide($Fe_{3}O_{4}$ + $4H_{2}$${\leftrightarrows}$ 3Fe + $4H_{2}O$) modified with rhodium, ceria and zirconia under atmospheric pressure. Reduction of iron oxide with hydrogen(hydrogen storage) and re-oxidation of reduced iron oxide with steam(hydrogen evolution) was carried out using a temperature programmed reaction(TPR) technique. On the temperature programmed studies, the effects of amounts of cerium and zirconium on the re-oxidation rate of partial reduced iron oxides were increased with increasing metal additives amount, but the rhodium amount showed little effect on the re-oxidation rate. On the thermal studies, the re-oxidation rates were enhanced with increasing temperature(300 $^{\circ}C$ < 350 $^{\circ}C$).

[ $M/Fe_2O_3$ ] (M=Rh, Ce and Zr) mixed oxides were prepared using urea method to develop a medium for chemical hydrogen storage by their redox cycles. And their redox behaviors by repeated cycles were studied using temperature programmed reaction(TPR) technique. Additives such as Rh, Ce and Zr were added to iron oxides in order to lower the reaction temperature for reduction by hydrogen and re-oxidation by water-splitting. From the results, concentration of urea used as a precipitant had little effect on particle size and reduction property of iron oxide. TPR patterns of iron oxide consisted of two reduction peaks due to the course of $Fe_2O_3\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe_3O_4\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe$. The results of repeated redox tests showed that Rh added to iron oxide have an effect on lowering the re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting. Meanwhile, Ce and Zr additives played an important role in prevention of deactivation by repeated cycles. Finally, Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample added with Rh, Ce and Zr showed the lowest re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting and maintained high $H_2$ recovery in spite of the repeated redox cycles. Consequently, it is expected that Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample can be a feasible medium for chemical hydrogen storage using redox cycle of iron oxide.
Pt-Sn/${\theta}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst for n-butane dehydrogenation reaction was prepared by incipient wetness method. To confirm the physicochemical properties of Pt-Sn/${\theta}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst, the characterization was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), $N_2$ sorption analysis, temperature programmed desorption of $NH_3$ ($NH_3$-TPD), temperature programmed reduction of $H_2$ ($H_2$-TPR) techniques. Also, the catalytic activities of Pt-Sn/${\theta}-Al_2O_3$ for n-butane dehydrogenation was tested as a function of pretreatment temperature, pretreatment time, reaction temperature, and the partial pressure of n-butane and hydrogen. The sum of selectivities to n-butenes consisting of 1-butene, cis-2-butene, and trans-2-butene was almost constant 95% in the range of conversion of n-butane 5-55%. The activation energy calculated from Arrhenius equation was $82.4kJ\;mol^{-1}$ and the reaction orders of n-butane and hydrogen from Power's law were 0.70 and -0.20, respectively.
Catalytic activity in ammonia decomposition reaction was studied on Mo-Al nitride obtained through temperature programmed nitridation of calcined Mo-Al mixed oxide prepared by varying the MoO3 quantity in the range of 10-50 wt%. N2 sorption analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and H2-temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to investigate the physicochemical properties of the prepared catalyst were performed. After calcination at 600 ℃, the XRD of Mo-Al oxide showed γ-Al2O3 and Al2(MoO4)3 phases, and the nitride after nitridation showed an amorphous form. The specific surface area after nitridation by topotactic transformation of MoO3 to nitride was increased due to the formation of Mo nitride, and the Mo nitride was observed to be supported on γ-Al2O3. As for the catalytic activity in the ammonia decomposition reaction, 40 wt% MoO3 showed the best activity, and as the nitridation time increases, the activity increased, and thus the activation energy decreased.

Tantalum carbide crystallites which is to be used for $H_2$ fuel cell has been synthesized via a temperature-programmed reduction of $Ta_2O_5$ with pure $CH_4$. The resultant Ta carbide crystallites prepared using two different heating rates and space velocity exhibit the different surface areas. The $O_2$ uptake has a linear relation with surface area, corresponding to an oxygen capacity of $1.36{\times}10^{13}\;O\;cm^{-2}$. Tantalum carbide crystallites are very active for hydrogen production form ammonia decomposition reaction. Tantalum carbides are as much as two orders of magnitude more active than Pt/C catalyst (Engelhard). The highest activity has been observed at a ratio of $C_1/Ta^{{\delta}+}=0.85$, suggesting the presence of electron transfer between metals and carbon in metal carbides.
CH4/CO2 dry reforming was carried out to make syn gas on the Ni/Al2O3 catalysts calcined at different temperatures. The Ni/Al2O3 (850 $^{\circ}C)$ catalyst gave good activity and stability w hereas the Ni/Al2O3 $(450^{\circ}C)$ catalyst showed lower activity and stability. The NiO/Al2O3 catalyst calcined at $850^{\circ}C$ for 16 h (Ni/Al2O3 $(850^{\circ}C))$ formed the spinel structure of nickel aluminate, which was confirmed by TPR. The carbon formation rate on the Ni/Al2O3 $(850^{\circ}C)$ catalyst was very low till 20 h, and then steeply increased with reaction time without decreasing the activity for CH4 reforming. The Ni/Al2O3 $(450^{\circ}C)$ catalyst showed high carbon formation rate at the initial reaction time and then, the rate nearly stopped with continuous decreasing the activity for CH4 reforming. Even though the amount of carbon deposition on the Ni/Al2O3 $(850^{\circ}C)$ catalyst was higher than that on the Ni/Al2O3 $(450^{\circ}C)$ catalyst, the activity for CH4ing was also high, which could be attributed to the different type of the carbon formed on the catalyst surface.

The NOx conversion properties of Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ and $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalysts were studied for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. The performance of the catalysts was investigated in terms of their $NOx$ conversion activity as a function of the reaction temperature and space velocity. The activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst decreased with increasing reaction temperature and space velocity. However, the activity of the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst increased with increasing reaction temperature. High activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was observed at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$. H2-TPR and XPS analyses were conducted to explain these results. It was found that the activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was influenced by the thermal shock caused by the change of the initial reaction temperature, whereas the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst was not affected by the initial reaction temperature. In the case of catalyst C, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency decreased with increasing space velocity. The decrease in the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency with increasing space velocity was much less for catalyst D than for catalyst C.
In this work, the $N_2O$ decomposition catalyst and reaction characteristics to control the $N_2O$ removal were described. Experiments were carried out by using Rh as an active metal catalyst on various supports and the $Rh/CeO_2$ catalyst with $CeO_2$ support showed the best activity for the $N_2O$ decomposition when it was prepared under the constant heat treatment condition ($500^{\circ}C$-4 hr). $H_2-TPR$ and XPS analyzes were performed to confirm the effect of the physical and chemical properties of the catalyst on $N_2O$ decomposition. As a result, it was found that the increase of the oxygen transfer capacity of the catalyst due to the increase of both the redox property and $Ce^{3+}$ amount affected the decomposition reaction of $N_2O$. In addition, the future work will include a treatment process capable of decomposition $N_2O$ and NO under the condition that $N_2O$ and NO are simultaneously generated and its characteristics of $N_2O$ decomposition reaction.
