  • Thinned fruits, apple, pear and peach were investigated into chemical components and physiological activities. On proximate compositions, crude protein, crude fat and ash of thinned fruits were higher than those of ripe fruits, showing lower carbohydrate in thinned fruits. The contents of inorganic substance were Ca, Mg, P, Na, K and B in order. On heavy metals, As, Cd, Cr and Hg were not detected and Ge, Mo, Ni and Pb were trace. Organic acid in thinned apple and peach were detected as tartaric acid, citric acid, malic acid and succinic acid, but thinned pear did not contain citric acid. Free sugars in thinned pear and peach were composed of glucose, fructose and sucrose but sucrose was not detected in thinned apple. Contents of insoluble dietary fiber in thinned fruits were higher than soluble dietary fiber. The thinned apple extracts showed high antioxidant activity. Nitrite scavenging activity of thinned apple and pear extracts were 71∼80 e/o and 61∼63% at pH 1.2, respectively. Tyrosinase inhibitory activity of thinned pear extracts was 61.0∼89.4 %, however peach extinct showed no activity.

  • Recently, it has been reported that frictional behavior at nanometer scale can be different from that at macro scale. In this article, friction and wear tests were conducted using an AFM to investigate the effect of real contact area on the coefficient of friction and wear property. SiO$_2$, Hica, and SiGe were used in friction test and the AFM tip was Si$_3$N$_4$. The real contact area between an AFM tip and flat surface was calculated by the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) theory. Wear specimen was Mica, and the diamond tip was used. We found that the coefficient of friction is constant below a critical area, but it is degraded over the area. Moreover, it is found that wear depth increased rapidly from a certain load and was degraded as a function of the number of the scanning cycles. Also, the range of scanning velocity used in this study had little effect on the wear depth.

  • Precision agriculture aims to minimize costs and environmental damage caused by agriculture and to maximize crop yield and profitability, based on information collected at within-field locations. In this process, quantification of soil physical properties, including soil strength, would be useful. To quantify and manage variability in soil strength, there is need for a strength sensor that can take measurements continuously while traveling across the field. In this paper, preliminary analyses were conducted using two datasets available with current technology, (1) cone penetrometer readings collected at different compaction levels and for different soil textures and (2) tillage draft (TD) collected from an entire field. The objective was to provide information useful for design of an on-the-go soil strength profile sensor and for interpretation of sensor test results. Analysis of cone index (CI) profiles led to the selection of a 0.5-m design sensing depth, 10-MPa maximum expected soil strength, and 0.1-MPa sensing resolution. Compaction level, depth, texture, and water content of the soil all affected CI. The effects of these interacting factors on data obtained with the soil strength sensor should be investigated through experiments. Spatial analyses of CI and TD indicated that the on-the-go soil strength sensor should acquire high spatial-resolution, high-frequency ($\ge$ 4 Hz) measurements to capture within-field spatial variability.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the changes of haematological constituents induced by dietary exposure of Hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in nile tilapia, Oreochhromis niloticus. The nile tilapia were fed pellet with 0.05, 0.25 and 0.50 mg/kg body weight/day of HCB and PCBs for 30 days, respectively. HCB ($\ge$ 0.25 mg/kg) induced a significantly decreased the red blood cell count at 30 days, and the hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit value were significantly decreased after 20 days to 0.50 mg/kg. The diminution of red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration and hamatocrit value by PCBs was found after 20 days at $\ge$0.25 mg/kg. The concentrations of calcium decreased significantly at 30 days at $\ge$0,25 mg/kg of PCBs-diet. However, magnesium and inorganic phosphorus did not show any noticeable changes in the range of 0.05$\~$o.50 mg/kg of HCB and PCBs compared to control group during the experimental period, The low concentration of total protein was observed at the last day of experiment to 0.50 mg/kg of HCB-diet, while total protein initiated to increase from 20 days at the 0.25 mg/kg of PCBs-diet. The glucose was significantly increased after 20 days at $\ge$0,25 mg/kg of HCB and PCBs, A significant increment GOT and GPT activities was noticed after 20 days at 0.50 mg/kg of HCB and PCBs, These results indicate that hematological and serum biochemical changes in the nile tilapia by dietary exposure to HCB and PCBs are affected at more than 0,25 mg/kg after 20 days.

  • Purpose Recently, Cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) semiconductor myocardial SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) has been used myocardial scintigraphy. In this study, the performance of Semiconductor SPECT and conventional SPECT systems was compared by a comprehensive analysis of phantom SPECT images. Materials and Methods Methods: We evaluated the DSPECT CZT SEPCT (Spectrum-dynamic) and INFINA conventional (GE). Physical performance was compared on reconstructed SPECT images from a phantom. Results For count sensitivity on cardiac phantom images ($counts{\cdot}sec^{-1}{\cdot}MBq^{-1}$), DSPECT had a sensitivity of conventional SPECT. This classification was similar to that of myocardial counts normalized to injected activities from phantom images (respective mean values, $counts{\cdot}sec^{-1}{\cdot}MBq^{-1}$: 195.83 and 52.83). For central spatial resolution: DSPECT, 9.47mm; conventional SPECT, 16.90mm. For contrast-to-noise ratio on the phantom: DSPECT, 4.2; conventional SPECT, 3.6. Conclusion The performance of CZT cameras is dramatically higher than that of conventional SPECT. However, CZT cameras differ in that spatial resolution and contrast-to-noise ratio are better with conventional SPECT, whereas count sensitivity is markedly higher with the DSPECT.

  • This paper is described on the development of KOTRON-13 and recent status of PET cyclotron by commercial cyclotron companies. KIRAMS has developed medical cyclotron which is KIRAMS-13. Samyoung Unitech produces KOTRON-13 with transfered technology by KIRAMS. As a part of Regional Cyclotron Installation Protect, KOTRON-13 cyclotrons and $[18F]FDG$ production modules are being installed at regional cyclotron centers in Korea. The medical concern with radiation technology has been growing for the last several years. Early cancer diagnosis through the cyclotron and PET-CT have been brought to public attention by commercial cyclotron models in the world. The new commercial cyclotron models are introduced compact low energy cyclotrons developed by CTI, GE, Sumitomo in recent. It produces different short-lived radioisotopes, such as $[^{18}F],\;[^{11}C],\;[^{13}N]\;and\;[^{15}O]$. For the better reliability acceleration particle is proton only. The characteristics of new model cyclotrons are changed to lower energy corresponding to less 13 MeV. New models have self-shielding and low power consumption. Design criteria for the different types of commercial cyclotrons are described with reference to hospital demands.

  • Objective: To carry out a comprehensive production planning of the existing Rongchang pig population from both environmental and genetic aspects, and to establish a closed population with stable genetic diversity and strict pathogen control, it is necessary to fully understand the genetic background of the population. Methods: We genotyped 54 specific pathogen free (SPF) Rongchang pigs using the Zhongxin-1 Porcine Breeding Array PLUS, calculated their genetic diversity parameters and constructed their families. In addition, we also counted the runs of homozygosity (ROH) of each individual and calculated the value of inbreeding coefficient based on ROH for each individual. Results: Firstly, the results of genetic diversity analysis showed that the effective population size (Ne) of this population was 3.2, proportion of polymorphic markers (PN) was 0.515, desired heterozygosity (He) and observed heterozygosity (Ho) were 0.315 and 0.335. Ho was higher than He, indicating that the heterozygosity of all the selected loci was high. Secondly, combining the results of genomic relatedness analysis and cluster analysis, it was found that the existing Rongchang pig population could be divided into four families. Finally, we also counted the ROH of each individual and calculated the inbreeding coefficient value accordingly, whose mean value was 0.09. Conclusion: Due to the limitation of population size and other factors, the genetic diversity of this Rongchang pig population is low. The results of this study can provide basic data to support the development of Rongchang pig breeding program, the establishment of SPF Rongchang pig closed herd and its experimental utilization.

  • Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors typically use an optical filter that transmits a discriminating 4.26 ㎛ wavelength band to measure carbon dioxide (CO2), as CO2 absorbs 4.26 ㎛ infrared. The filter performance depends on the transmittance and full width at half maximum (FWHM). This paper presents the fabrication, sensitivity, and selectivity characteristics of a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR)-based Fabry-Perot filter with a simple structure for CO2 detection. Each Ge and SiO2 films were prepared using the RF magnetron sputtering technique. The transmittance characteristics were measured using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The fabricated filter had a peak transmittance of 59.1% at 4.26 ㎛ and a FWHM of 158 nm. In addition, sensitivity and selectivity experiments were conducted by mounting the sapphire substrate and the fabricated filter on an NDIR CO2 sensor measurement system. When measuring the sensitivity, the concentration of CO2 was observed in the range of 0-10000 ppm, and the selectivity was measured for environmental gases of 1000 ppm. The fabricated filter showed lower sensitivity to CO2 but showed higher selectivity with other gases.

  • The object of this study was to examine whether the germanium fortified yeast administered to SD rat is accumulated in the liver and kidney. The administration doses were within 2,000 mg/kg which is the level of NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level) proved through the previous study of single/consecutive oral toxicity test. There were no significant clinical symptoms and mortality following the administration of organic germanium-fortified yeast (0, 500, 1,000, 2,000 mg/kg) during the whole test period, and also no difference in the consumed amount of feed and water for each group. No significant abnormalities of hematology and blood chemistry parameters were found in all groups of organic germanium-fortified yeast (0, 500, 1,000, 2,000 mg/kg). The amount of germanium accumulated in liver and kidney was 0 g/kg by ICP-AES method in the group of organic germanium-fortified yeast. In the positive control group of $GeO_2$ (150 mg/kg), the amount of accumulation was shown to 3135.0 and 4277.2 g/kg in each female and male kidney and 1044.3 and 2135.8 g/kg in each female and male liver, respectively. Organic germanium-fortified yeast, a biosynthetic product resulting from putting germanium into yeast, did not show any clinical symptoms, blood chemical significance, and residues in kidney and liver. It could be inferred that the non-toxic amount of organic germanium-fortified yeast was up to 2,000 mg/kg.
