The effects of G-T mismatches on thermal stability, the base-pair lifetime and the global structure of a d(GCGTGCGC)2 duplex were studied by using 1H NMR, UV and CD spectroscopy. The existence of G-T mismatches was found to cause a noticeable change in the chemical environment of imino protons associated with significant decrease in the base-pair lifetime at the mismatched site as well as in thermal stability of the duplex itself. The melting transition of d(GCGTGCGC)2 was not cooperative at all at 100 mM or lower concentration of NaCl, but became cooperative at 500 mM or higher NaCl concentration. The melting temperature (Tm) of this duplex was 32℃ at 500 mM concentration of NaCl, which is much lower than that of d(GCGCGCGC)2 at the same NaCl concentration. This suggests that the decrease in stability may be ascribed to the decrease in the base-pair lifetime and the deviation from the normal structure due to the G-T mismatches. Adding berenil to d(GCGTGCGC)2 caused no observable change in the global structure but the large decrease in the base-pair lifetime and the stability of the duplex.
The storage stabilities of immunoliposomes incorporated with variable amounts of ganglioside $G_{M1}$ were investigated as a function of time. temperature. and composition by observing absorbance of visible light and calcein release. In the column chromatographe, the layer of unsaturated PE(dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine : DOPE). unable to form stable liposomes at physiological temperature and pH, were formed when palmitoyl-immunoglobulin G(IgG) $(2.5{\times}10^{-4}\;mol/DOPE\;mol)$ added. The incorporation of ganglioside $G_{M1}$ into immunoliposome. enhanced the stabilities of bilayers during the extended period of storage. The turbidities of immunoliposomes coated with ganglioside $G_{M1}$ exhibited the maximum near 20 mol% $G_{M1}/DOPE$ mol. probably because of the disturbance of the bilayer characteristics, i.e., layer transition or reorientation of interaction sites. At low temperature. the higher stability was achieved than at elevated temperatures. After one week of storage. the redispersed liposomal solutions at lower temperatures maintained the original elution patterns in chromatography but broader distribution at elevated temperatures. During the storage, it is suggested the aggregation is the more dominant phenomena for liposomes kept at $5^{\circ}C$ than the fusion. while he fusion is at elevated temperatures.
$^{11}B$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements have been performed to investigate electronic structures and vortex states of $M_gB_2$ superconductor. The central transition shows a narrow peak down to 25 K at 3.15 T. Below 25 K, an extra line starts to show up and dominates. The extra line is broad and asymmetric with a long tail in the high frequency side, which confirms that this originates from vortex pinning below the irreversibility temperature. From temperature evolution of the fraction and linewidth of the broad portion, temperature dependence of coherence length and penetration depth are extracted.
Transition metal sulfide materials have emerged as a new anode material for Li secondary batteries owing to their high capacity and rate capability facilitated by fast Li-ion transport through the layered structure. Among these materials, niobium disulfide (NbS2) has attracted much attention with its high electrical conductivity and high theoretical capacity (683 mAh g-1). In this study, we propose a facile synthesis of FexNbS2/C composite via simple ball milling and heat treatment. The starting materials of FeS and Nb were reacted in the first milling step and transformed into an Fe-Nb-S composite. In the second milling step, activated carbon was incorporated and the sulfide was crystallized into FexNbS2 by heat treatment. The prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, electron spectroscopies, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electrochemical test results reveal that the synthesized FexNbS2/C composite electrode demonstrates a high reversible capacity of more than 600 mAh g-1, stable cycling stability, and excellent rate performance for Li-ion battery anodes.
Multi-walled carbon nanotube/polystyrene (MWCNT/PS) composites with various MWCNT contents were prepared by using a solution process with an aid of surfactant. Particularly, PS's with 3 different molecular weights (${\bar{M}}_n$ = 101500 g/mole for PS-1, ${\bar{M}}_n$ = 89900 g/mole for PS-2, and ${\bar{M}}_n$ = 85000 g/mole for PS-3) were used in this study. Thermal behavior of these composites was examined by using an oscillator rheometer at $210^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$, of above and below the critical flow temperature ($T_{cf}{\sim}195^{\circ}C$) of PS matrix, respectively. The storage and loss modulus, and the complex viscosity of these composites increased with increasing MWCNT content at both temperatures. Largest increases in the frequency-dependent moduli and complex viscosity were observed between 2 wt% and 5 wt% of MWCNTs at $210^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$. Only the composite at $210^{\circ}C$ showed the rheological phase transition from a viscous-dominant to an elastic-dominant behavior of the composites at a certain MWCNT content. The MWCNT content at the rheological phase transition of MWCNT/PS composites generally increased with decreasing molecular weight of PS, and was measured to be 3.5 wt% for MWCNT/PS-1, 3.2 wt% for MWCNT/PS-2, and 3.0 wt% for MWCNT/PS-3 composites.
Epoxy functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid materials (hybrimers) were synthesized by sol-gel reaction for application in OLED barrier coating. By using the calcium degradation method, the oxygen transition rate (OTR) and water vapor transition rate (WVTR) measured so far is $10^{-2}cc/m^2$-day for oxygen and $10^{-1}g/m^2$-day for water molecules with single hybrimer coating film, respectively. Encapsulated OLED devices have life time of 14hrs of a single hybrimer barrier coating and 29hrs of hybrimer/inorganic double barrier coatings at $25^{\circ}C$ and 60% relative humidity.

The preparation of $PbTiO_3$ powder was carried out using the oxide starting material by hydrothermal method. The powder of a crystalline phase with perovskite structure was synthesized. The optimum conditions for the preparation of powder were as follows; hydrothermal solvent; 8M-KOH or 8M-NaOH, reaction temperature; 250~$270^{\circ}C$, run time; 10 h. The ,shape of synthesized powders were well developed crystalline faces with specific surface area of about 2.3 $\textrm m^2$/g in KOH solution and about 5.0 $\textrm m^2$/g in NaOH solution. The cell parameters of powder were a = 3.90$\AA$, c = 4.14 $\AA$ and cell volume was 57.30 $\AA^3$. The cell ratio (c/a) of powder was the same as the theoretical ratio with c/a = 1.06 and the phase transition temperature(Tc) of the powders was about $470^{\circ}C$.
The actin cytoskeleton plays a key role in the entry of mitosis as well as in cytokinesis. In a previous study, we showed that actin disruption delays mitotic entry at G2/M by sustained activation of extracellular signal-related kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) in primary cells but not in transformed cancer cell lines. Here, we examined the mechanism of cell cycle delay at G2/M by actin dysfunction in IMR-90 normal human fibroblasts. We observed that de-polymerization of actin with cytochalasin D (CD) constitutively activated ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK) and induced inhibitory phosphorylation of Cdc2 (Tyr 15) in IMR-90 cells. In the presence of an actin defect in IMR-90 cells, activating phosphorylation of Wee1 kinase (Ser 642) and inhibitory phosphorylation of Cdc25C (Ser 216) was also maintained. However, when kinase-dead RSK (DN-RSK) was overexpressed, we observed sustained activation of ERK1/2, but no delay in the G2/M transition, demonstrating that RSK functions downstream of ERK in cell cycle delay by actin dysfunction. In DN-RSK overexpressing IMR-90 cells treated with CD, phosphorylation of Cdc25C (Ser 216) was blocked and phosphorylation of Cdc2 (Tyr 15) was decreased, but the phosphorylation of Wee1 (Ser 642) was maintained, demonstrating that RSK directly controls phosphorylation of Cdc25C (Ser 216), but not the activity of Wee1. These results strongly suggest that actin dysfunction in primary cells activates ERK1/2 to inhibit Cdc2, delaying the cell cycle at G2/M by activating downstream RSK, which phosphorylates and blocks Cdc25C, and by directly activating Wee1.
Thermodynamic miscibility of the binary blends composed of semi-crystalline poly (butylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PBN) and amorphous poly (4-vinylphenol) (PVPh) was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. DSC scan results showed that there was a single glass transition temperature (T$\_$g/) for each blend. Crystalline melting temperature (T$\_$m/) depression of the PBN in the blends was also observed with the increase of PVPh content. Both results of the single T$\_$g/ and the depression of T$\_$m/ for the PBN/PVPh blends indicate that the blends are thermodynamically miscible at the molecular level. FTIR spectroscopic analysis confirmed that strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between the ester carbonyl groups of the PBN and the hydroxyl groups of the PVPh are occurred.

For diffusion limited cluster agglomerates the ratio of the mobility radius to the radius of gyration $R_m/R_g$ vs. N and the ratio of the mobility radius to the radius of primary particle $R_m$/a are determined using experimental data obtained with DMA-APM and tandem DMA over a range of Knudsen numbers extending into the transition region where there is a lack of data. It was found that in slip regime with the number of primary particles between 100 and 400, datapoints are found to be between the two asymptotic lines for the continuum and free molecular regimes as those datapoints are plotted in both $R_m/R_g$ vs. N and $R_m$/a vs. N.
