Membrane contactor and Carbon Dioxide Separation

  • PVDF is good material for a hollow fiber membrane with high porosity and excellent hydrophobicity. Asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the Loeb-Sourirajan phase inversion method. Asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes could be controlled in pore size and porosity using various additives(LiCl, ZnCl$_2$) and internal coagulants (water, EtOH/water, and DMAc/water mixture). $CO_2$removal efficiency of asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes was 1.2 times high than that of commercialized PP hollow fiber membranes at MEA 5wt% solution. $CO_2$flux of asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes was 2.5 times higher than that of commercialized PP hollow fiber membranes. $CO_2$removal efficiency and absorption rate of asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes were 30 times higher than those of packed column at absorbent $H_2O$. $CO_2$flux of asymmetric PVDF hollow fiber membranes at MEA 5wt% solution was 48 times higher than that of pure water. In the case of MEA 5wt% solution used as an absorbent, the $CO_2$absorption rate and removal efficiency of PVDF hollow fiber membrane were 2.3 times higher than that of a packed column.

내경 4.55 mm의 경사진 헬리컬 코일형 열교환기내 이산화탄소의 열전달 특성에 관한 연구 (Heat Transfer Characteristics of Carbon Dioxide in a Inclined Helical Coil Type Heat Exchanger with Inner Diameter Tube of 4.55 mm)

  • 본 연구에서는 경사진 헬리컬 코일형 동관내 이산화탄소의 증발 열전달 계수와 압력강하를 실험적으로 조사하였다. 냉매 순환루프의 주요구성품은 수액기, 변속펌프, 질량유량계, 예열기, 경사진 헬리컬 코일형 가스냉각기(시험부)로 구성된다. 시험부는 내경 4.55 mm의 평활 동관으로 이루어져 있다. 냉매질량 유속은 $200kg/m^2s$에서 $600kg/m^2s$까지 변화시켰고, 가스냉각기의 입구압력은 7.5 MPa에서 10.0 MPa까지이다. 경사진 헬리컬 코일관내 이산화탄소의 열전달 계수는 질량유속과 냉각압력의 증가와 함께 따라 증가하였다. 이산화탄소의 압력강하는 헬리컬 코일관내 단상 상관식인 Ito식과 좋은 일치를 보였고, 이산화탄소의 국소 열전달 계수는 Pilta 등이 제안한 상관식과 좋은 일치를 보였다. 하지만, 유사임계 온도 영역부근에서는 실험데이터가 더 높게 나타났다.

본태성 수전증 환자의 미토콘드리아 DNA 분석 (Analysis of Mitochondrial DNA in Patients with Essential Tremor)

  • Objective : Essential tremor(ET) is the most common movement disorder, however, there has been little agreement in the neurologic literature regarding diagnostic criteria for ET. Familial ET is an autosomal dominant disorder presenting as an isolated postural tremor. The main feature of ET is postural tremor of the arms with later involvement of the head, voice, or legs. In previous studies, it was reported that ET susceptibility was inherited in an autosomal dominant inheritance. As previous results, it would suggest that ET might be associated with defect of mitochondrial or nuclear DNA. Recent studies are focusing on molecular genetic detection of movement disorders, such as essential tremor and restless legs syndrome. Moreover, authors have analysed mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) from the blood cell of positive control(PC) and ET patients via long and accurate polymerase chain reaction(LA PCR). Materials & Methods : Blood samples were collected from PC and 9 ET patients. Total DNA was extracted twice with phenol followed by chloroform : isoamylalcohol. For the analysis of mtDNA, LA PCR was performed by mitochondrial specific primers. Results : With this technique, deletions of large quantities were detected within several regions of mtDNA in ET patients except for D-loop and CO I regions. Conclusion : The authors believe that ET is a genentic disorder with deficiency of mitochondrial DNA multicomplexes and mitochondiral dysfunction could be one of major causative factors of ET. Mitochondrial dysfunction may play an important role in the pathogenesis and possibility of disease progression among familial group with ET patients.

영지추출물(靈芝抽出物)이 효모(酵母)의 증식(增殖)과 생리(生理)에 미치는 영향(影響) (The effect of Ganoderma lucidum Extract on Physiology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

  • 영지추출물이 효모의 증식과 생리에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위하여 영지의 용매별 추출물을 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0%되게 첨가한 Henneberg 액체배지에 S. cerevisiae를 접종하고, 5일간 발효$(30^{\circ}C)$과정중 균체생산, Alcohol 발효, $CO_2$ 발생 등을 조사하였다. 1. 발효과정중 72시간후 효모 세포수는 증류수추출물(Dw) 1.0% 첨가구>에탄올추출물(Et) 1.0% 첨가구>증류수추출물(Dw) 0.5% 첨가구>에탄올추출물(Et) 0.5%첨가구>증류수추출물(Dw) 0.1% 첨가구>에탄올추출물(Et) 0.1% 첨가구>대조구의 순이고 특히 1.0%구는 대조구보다 5.3배 많았다. 2, 건조균체량은 각 시험구 모두 대조구보다 많았고, Dw 1.0%구와 Et 1.0%구는 120시간 발효 후 대조구에 비해 약 1.7배였다. 3. 알코올 발효과정중 알코올 함량은 영지추출물의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 많아졌다. 4. 발효과정중 효모의 단위 시간당 $CO_2$ 발생 속도는 영지추출물을 증량할수록 대조구보다 빠르다.

Satellite-derived estimates of interannual variability in recent oceanic $CO_2$ uptake

  • The growth rate of atmospheric $CO_2$ undergoes significant interannual variability, largely due to temporal variability of partitioning of $CO_2$ between terrestrial biosphere and ocean. In the present paper, as a follow-up to the work by Lee et al. [1], we estimated the year-to-year variability in net global air-sea $CO_2$ fluxes between 1982 and 2003 from observed changes in wind speed and estimated changes in ${\Delta}pCO_2$ Changes in $pCO_{25W}$ were inferred from global records of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies and seasonally varying SST dependence of $pCO_{25W}$. The modeled interannual variability of $\pm0.2\;Pg\;C\;yr^{-1}\;(1{\sigma})$ from the present work is significantly smaller than the values deduced from atmospheric observations of $^{1.3}CO_2/CO_2$ in conjunction with different atmospheric transport models, but it is closer to the recent estimates inferred from a 3-D ocean biogeochemical model and atmospheric transport models constrained with extensive observations of atmospheric $CO_2$.

아시아 국가들 환경오염배출량의 확률수렴성과 환경쿠즈네츠곡선가설 검정 (The Test of Stochastic Convergence of Environment Emission and Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis in Asian Developing Countries)

  • 본 연구는 1971년~2007년까지 아시아 11개국에 대한 일인당 상대(relative per capita) $CO_2$배출량의 확률적 수렴성(stochastic convergence)을 검정하고 일인당 상대 GDP와의 환경쿠즈네츠곡선(Environmental Kuznets Curve: EKC)가설을 검정하고자 하였다. 본 분석을 위하여 다중의 내생적 구조변화(multiple structural breaks)를 허용하고 횡단면 주체간 의존성(cross-sectional dependence)을 고려하는 Carrion-i-Silvestre et al. (2005)의 패널정상성검정(panel stationarity test)과 Banerjee and Carrion-i-Silvestre (2006)과 Westerlund and Edgerton (2007)의 패널공적분(panel cointegration) 검정 방법 등을 사용하였다. 분석 결과 아시아 국가들에서의 일인당 상대 $CO_2$배출량에서 장기 그룹평균 수준으로 확률적 수렴이 이루어지고 있었고 일인당 상대 GDP와의 사이에 공적분관계가 성립하였지만 EKC 가설의 존재를 발견하지 못하였다. 경제성장 발전에 우선적으로 정책을 집행하고 있는 아시아 국가에서는 오염배출량 감소보다 증가하는 국가들의 영향력이 크게 나타나 EKC 가설이 성립하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Five males trained singers (age:25.0${\pm}$1.4years, career:6.8${\pm}$1.1 years) and five female trained singers (age:22.0${\pm}$1.0years, career:5.8${\pm}$1.2 years) participated in this study. SaO2(Oxi Hemoglobin saturation) measured by Oxy-Pulse meter and PAC02 (Pressure Alveolar Co2) measured by Quick et CO2 are compared with pre and post vocal training. As the result, PAC02 was lower than normal range (36-40mmHg) after vocal training, leading to Hypocapnia. This causes headache and dizziness

  • Due to environmental concerns $CO_2$ has been reintroduced as a potential candidate to replace HFCs in refrigeration systems. Oils are always required in a vapor-compression cycle, and thus actual working fluid in the system is $CO_2$-oil mixtures even though the oil concentrations are low at the heat exchangers and the expansion device. The cooling heat transfer coefficients for $CO_2$-oil mixtures under supercritical condition are required to designing of the gas cooler in the $CO_2$ refrigeration system properly. In the present study, the gas cooling heat transfer coefficients for $CO_2$-PEC9 was estimated by using the Gnileinski correlation, and the Kim and Ghajar model through the previous prediction models for the thermo-physical properties of $CO_2$-oil mixture. The Gnileinski correlation was used when the oil wt.% in the mixture is less than 1.0, and for the higher oil concentration the Kim and Ghajar model was applied. The estimated results agree with the experimental results conducted by the Dang et al.

  • MeOH-$H_2O$, EtOH-$H_2O$, MeOH-MeCN and MeOH-$(Me)_2$CO 혼합용매계에서 pseudo-saccharinechloride의 가용매분해반응에 대한 유사일차 반응속도상수를 여러 온도에서 구하였다. Kivinen식의 n값과 Grunwald-Winstein식의 m값을 구하고 분광용매화 관계식의 파라메타들을 결정하였다. 이들 용매효과 파라메타와 활성화 파라메타들을 종합하여 볼때 Pseudo saccharinechloride의 가용매 분해반응은 $S_N2$ 반응으로 진행됨을 알았다.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Among Male French Farmers and Agricultural Workers: Is It Only Associated With Physical Exposure?

  • Background: Exploratory study to investigate whether co-exposure to physical wrist stressors and chemicals is associated with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in French male farmers and agricultural workers. Methods: Cross-sectional study of 711 men aged 30-65 years and working as either farmers or agricultural workers in 2009-2010 within a cohort covered by the French Agricultural Workers' and Farmers' Mutual Benefit Fund. CTS and exposure to physical wrist stressors and chemicals were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. Associations between CTS and personal/medical factors, exposure to physical wrist stressors, exposure to chemicals, and co-exposure to physical wrist stressors and chemicals were studied using multivariate logistic regression models. Results: Forty-four men {5.6% [95% confidence interval (CI) 4.0-7.7]} reported that they had suffered from unilateral/bilateral CTS during the last 12 months. CTS was associated with age, current smoking [odds ratio (OR) = 2.1 (1.0-4.5)], and exposure to physical wrist stressors [OR = 2.6 (1.1-5.9)]. An association was found between CTS and co-exposure to physical wrist stressors and chemicals [OR = 3.3 (0.8-14.3), p = 0.044] in comparison with the no-exposure group. Conclusions: This exploratory study shows an association of CTS with exposure to biomechanical wrist stressors in male farmers and agricultural workers and suggests an association of CTS with co-exposure to physical wrist stressors and chemicals. Owing to the limitations of the study, this result must be confirmed by a prospective study with objective assessments of the outcome and exposure before drawing conclusions on the possible synergistic effects of mechanical stressors and chemicals on the impairment of the median nerve.
