Evaluation of STS 430 and STS 444 for SOFC Interconnect Applications

  • Ferritic stainless steels for the SOFC interconnect applications are required to possess not only a good oxidation resistance, but also a high electrical conductivity of the oxide scale that forms during exposure at the SOFC operating environment. In order to understand the effects of alloying elements on the oxidation behavior of ferritic stainless steels and on the electrical properties of oxide scales, two kinds of commercial ferritic stainless steels, STS 430 and STS 444, were investigated by performing isothermal oxidations at $800^{\circ}C$ in a wet air containing 3% $H_{2}O$. The results showed that STS 444 was superior to STS 430 in both of the oxidation resistance and the area specific resistance. Although STS 444 contained a less amount of Mn for the $(Mn,Cr)_{3}O_{4}$ spinel formation than STS 430, the minor alloying elements of Al and Mo in STS 444, which were accumulated in the base metal region adjacent the scale, were suggested to reduce the scale growth rate and to enhance the scale adherence to the base metal.

  • Voltammetric behavior of alkylammonium ion was studied in the absence and in the presence of crown ether in propylene carbonate as solvent. The peak potentials and the peak currents, their dependency on the concentrations, the reversibility of the electrode reactions are described. In the presence of crown ether chemical reaction might be preceeded before the electron-transfer process, the peak potential for the reduction shifts at the negative direction as the concentration of crown ether to the electrolyte solution increases. The addition of crown ether(20mM 18CR6)to the electrolyte solution made it possible to determine voltammetrically the dialkylammonium ions($Me_2NH^{+}_{2};O.6{\sim}0.8mM$) in the presence of the monoalkylammonium ions ($EtNH^{+}_{3} ;1.6mM$) and the monoalkylammonium ions ($EtNH^{+}_{3} ; 0.5{\sim}2.5mM$) in the presence of the dialkylammonium ions($Me_2NH^{+}_{2};0.5mM$)

Isothermal Oxidation Behaviour of Domestic Superalloys at Elevated Temperature (국산 Superalloy의 고온 산화 거동)

  • The isothermal oxidation behaviour of commercial superalloys produced in Korea was investigated by using Cahn-2000 microbalance in air at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$. The effect of alloying elements on the isothermal oxidation was studied by examination of the oxide structures, their morphologies, and EDS linescanning and mapping of cross-section of oxidized specimens. Generally, external Cr2O3 films were formed on all alloy surface, but were not pure, The effect on the oxidation behaviour of refractory elements such as Nb, Mo in Inconel 718 was considered to be deleterious, and the formation of internal Al oxide in Inconel 601 was beneficial.

  • 다양한 물질계의 2차원 나노구조는 그래핀과 함께 그 고유특성으로 최근 광전소자, 전자소자, 센서, 에너지 생성 및 저장과 수소에너지 생성 등의 응용으로 매우 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 특히 층상이중수산화물 (layered-double hydroxide; LDH) 2차원 나노구조는 생성의 용이성과 층상 내 금속 이온의 교환을 통한 특성의 자유로운 제어가 가능하므로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 층상이중수산화물 화합물은 [Zn(1-x) MIII(x)(OH)2][$An-x/n{\cdot}mH2O$] (MIII = Al, Cr, Ga; An- = CO32-, Cl-, NO3-, CH3COO-) 구조로써, Brucite-type 구조 내에서 3가 양이온의 상태에 따라서 다양한 특성을 제어할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 이러한 장점으로 인해 층상이중수산화물 화합물은 촉매나, 에너지 저장, 음이온 교환 및 흡착, 화학적 촉매, 바이오 소자 등에 응용이 연구되고 있으며, 다양한 금속 산화물을 제조하기 위한 중간자 precursor로써도 연구되고 있다. 하지만, 이러한 대부분의 연구들을 통한 결과물들이 분말 및 수용액 상태로 남게 되며, 이러한 화합물의 특성을 제어하기 어려운 문제점이 있다. 더욱이 이러한 나노구조물들을 다양한 소자로 응용하기 위해서는 상용의 실리콘이나 glass 등의 기판형태의 물질상에 성장시킬 수 있어야 하며, 그러한 기판 위에서의 형상 및 특성 제어가 용이해야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실리콘 기판을 적용한 Zn기반의 층상이중 수산화물 화합물을 성장하고, 하부물질의 조성제어를 통한 층상이중수산화물 화합물의 형상제어가 가능한 기술에 관한 연구를 보고하고자 한다. 이를 위한 하부물질의 조성은 Zn와 Al을 통해 이루어지며, 기형성된 Al2O3박막을 핵형성층으로 활용한다. 이러한 방법으로 형성된 층상이중수산화물 화합물에 대해 이차전자주사현미경, 투과전자현미경 및 X-ray회절기법을 통해 구조분석을 하고, Raman 및 광발광스펙트럼 분석을 통해 광학적 분석을 시행함으로써, 층상이중수산화물이 기판상에서 형성되는 메커니즘에 관한 규명을 시행하였다. 이러한 분석연구를 통해 핵형성층의 에칭 따라 실리콘 기판상에서 성장하는 층상이 중수산화물 화합물의 형상 및 조성이 제어되는 메커니즘을 구명하였다.

EFFECTS OF CURRENT DENSITY AND ETCHING TIME ON ETCHING DEPTH AND SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF NI-CR-BE ALLOY (전류밀도와 식각시간이 니켈-크롬-베릴륨 합금의 식각깊이와 표면조도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate which current densities and etching times will result in an optimal etching depth and surface roughness when an Ni-Cr-Be alloy is etched with 30% perchloric acid($HClO_4$). For this study, observations were made by means of an optical three-dimensional surface roughness measuring machine and a scanning electron microscope. The etchings took place under the following conditions using current densities of $300mA/cm^2\;450mA/cm^2,\;600mA/cm^2$ and $750mA/cm^2$, and using etching time of three, five, six, seven and nine minutes. Under the conditions, the experiments reached the following conclusions. 1. When the current density is above $450mA/cm^2$ and the etching time is longer than five minutes, the etching depth increased as the current density and etching time increased. And the surface roughness was significantly influenced by the interaction of the current density and etching time. 2. Under the etching conditions of $600mA/cm^2$ and five minutes, the optimal etching depth for a resin cement space and the highest surface roughness for mechanical retention were obtained. The etching depth and surface roughness were $32.86{\mu}m$ and $7.90{\mu}m$, respectively. 3. Observations under the scanning electron microscope showed that both the corrosion at the grain boundary and the corrosion within the grain occurred on the etched surface. It was also observed that the corrosion at the grain boundary became more severe as the current density and etching time increased. In addition. at higher current densities and longer etching times general corrosion appeared.

The Resting and Exercise Related Oxygen Desaturation as the Associated Factor for Sleep Related Oxygen Desaturation in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (만성 폐쇄성 폐질환 환자의 수면 중 산소포화도 감소에 대한 예측인자로서 안정시 및 운동시 산소포화도)

  • Background: Nocturnal hypoxemia occurs in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and the detection and treatment of nocturnal hypoxemia should be part of the management of COPD patients. We performed this study to evaluate the factors influencing to sleep related arterial oxygen desaturation($SaO_2$) in patients with COPD. Methods: Resting and exercise cardiopulmonary function test, polysomnography, and $SaO_2$ during resting, exercise and sleep were measured in 12 patients with COPD. Results: The $SaO_2$ fell twice as much during sleep as during maximal exercise($13.1{\pm}9.3%$ fall in nocturnal $SaO_2$ vs. $6.4{\pm}3.3%$, p<0.05). Fall in nocturnal $SaO_2$ was well correlated with mean exercise $SaO_2$(r=-0.78, p<0.05), minimum exercise $SaO_2$(r=-0.90, p<0.01), and resting $SaO_2$(Cr=-0.82, p<0.05). Lowest sleep $SaO_2$ was well correlated with mean exercise $SaO_2$(r=0.80, p<0.05), lowest exercise $SaO_2$(r=0.90, p<0.01), and resting $SaO_2$(r=0.84, p<0.05). Conclusion: Resting and exercise $SaO_2$ was well correlated with nocturnal $SaO_2$, but exercise study add no additional information to predicting the nocturnal oxygen desaturation in patients with COPD.

Stainless steel 기판에서 제조된 CIGS 박막 태양전지의 ZnO 확산 방지막을 이용한 deep level defect 감소 연구

  • Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) 박막 태양전지는 높은 효율과 낮은 제조비용, 높은 신뢰성으로 인해 박막 태양전지 중 가장 각광받고 있다. 특히 유리기판 대신 가볍고 유연한 철강소재나 플라스틱 소재를 이용하여 발전분야 외에 건물일체형, 수송용, 휴대용등 다양한 분야에 적용이 가능하다. 이러한 유연 기판을 이용한 CIGS 태양전지의 개발을 위해서는 기판의 특성에 따른 다양한 공정개발이 선행되어야 한다. Stainless steel과 같은 철강기판의 경우 Fe, Ni, Cr등의 불순물이 확산되어 흡수층의 특성을 저하시켜 효율을 감소시킨다. 따라서 이러한 철강 기판의 경우 불순물의 확산을 방지하는 확산방지막이 필수적이다. 이러한 유연기판의 특성을 고려하여 본 연구에서는 기존의 두껍고 추가 장비가 요구되는 SiOx나 Al2O3 대신 200nm 이하의 ZnO 박막을 이용하여 확산방지막을 제조하였다. 유연기판으로 STS 430 stainless steel을 이용하였다. 먼저 stainless steel 기판을 이용하여 기판에 의한 흡수층의 특성을 분석하였으며 ZnO 확산 방지막의 유무 및 두께에 따른 흡수층 및 소자의 특성을 분석하였다. 이때 확산 방지막은 기존 TCO 공정에서 사용되는 i-ZnO를 사용하였으며 RF sputter를 이용하여 50~200nm로 두께를 달리하며 특성 비교를 실시하였다. 효율은 확산방지막을 적용하지 않았을 때 약 5.9%에서 확산 방지막 적용시 약 10.7%로 증가하였다. 그 후 기판으로부터 확산되는 불순물의 유입에 의한 결함을 분석하기 위해 DLTS를 이용하여 소자 특성을 분석하였다. 온도는 80~300K으로 가변하며 측정을 실시하였으며 그 후 계산을 통해 activation energy와 capture cross section 값을 구하였다. DLTS 분석 결과 Ni이 CIGS 흡수층으로 확산되어 NiCu anti-site를 형성하여 태양전지의 효율을 감소시키는 것을 확인하였다. 모든 흡수층은 Co-Evaporation 방법을 이용하여 제조하였으며 제조된 흡수층은 SEM, XRF, XRD, GD-OES, PL, Raman등을 이용하여 분석하였으며 그 외 일반적인 방법을 이용하여 Mo, CdS, TCO, Al grid를 제조하였다. AR 코팅은 제외 하였으며 제조된 소자는 솔라 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 효율 특성 분석을 실시하였으며 Q.E. 분석을 실시하였다.

  • This paper is to investigate a defect for thermal barrier coating layers by acoustic emission method in 4-point bending test. The two-layer thermal barrier coating is composed of $150\mu{m}\;CoNiCrAlY\;bond\;coating\;by\;vacuum\;plasma\;spray(VPS)\;process\;and\;250\mu{m}\;ZrO_2-8wt%Y_2O_3$ ceramic coating layer by air plasma spray(APS) process on Inconel-718. The specimen prepared by cyclic thermal test(500, 1000, 2000cycle) at $1050^{\circ}C$ The AE monitoring system is composed of PICO type sensor, a wide band pre-amplifier(40dB), PC and AE DSP(16/32 PAC) board. The AE event, amplitude, Cumulative energy and count of coating specimens is evaluated according to cyclic thermal test.

A Study of Heavy Metal Contents in plants from Mt. Kwang-Duk Area (광덕산 식물체의 중금속 함량에 관한 연구)

  • Heavy metal accumulation in living organisms through food-wed can give serious damage on physiological responses for vital activities. The initiation of heavy metal supposed to begin from the bio-accumulation of plants. To establish basic data fur heavy metal contents in plants at the area without artificial contamination, both woody and herb plants at Mt. Kwang-Duk were studied. The content of heavy metals in various organs of plants were analyzed by ICP. The range of heavy metals in plants for Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe. Mn, Pb, Se and Zn were 1.019∼257.200ppm, O∼2.929ppm, 0∼0.079ppm, 0∼0.054ppm, 0.023∼3.007ppm, 0∼1.997ppm, 2.031∼148.500ppm, 1.069∼51.320ppm, O∼126.900ppm, 0.708∼4.927ppm and 0.846∼4.949ppm, respectively. The amount of heavy metals in plants are much less than that of soil except some species. In woody plants, it was detected that the metal contents of leaves were higher than that of stems especially in case of Al and Fe with statistical significance. There were significant differences between shoots and roots of herb plants in metal content of Al, Co and Fe. Those metals have more accumulated in roots comparing with shoots. Some species of plants had shown the difference tendency of heavy metal accumulation. Generally, most species had not exceeded over twice of mean value each other, and had various difference according to the kinds of heavy metals.

A Study on SPI(soil pollution index) in City Land

  • To estimate the soil quality of Miryang area, soil analysis were conducted according to the city and out of city of soil expenses at according to analysis components and heavy metal pollution of irradiation sampling sites. The through soil components the principal element about the 71% $SiO_2\;and\;Al_2O_3$, the pH of field area near the city center was lower than that of the other field area, which indicated that this acidification was probably attributed to the acid rain caused by the traffic exhaust gas such as $SO_x\;and\;NO_x$. Acidification was more severe in the field area than in the farming land. The concentration of five heavy metals such as Cu, Cd, Pb, As and Cr were found to be lower than the standard of soil pollution. An assessment using the SPI(Soil Pollution Index), which was developed to estimate an overall soil quality, was performed. Each SPS(Soil Pollution Score) were evaluated with the results of the data from this study. The soil quality of most area of Miryang land was determined to Class 1, which indicated that the soil was healthy.
