  • Amorphous ferrites with composition B2O3-mBaO-nFe2O3 were prepared by an ultra rapidquenching technique. X-ray patterns and SEM reveal the products to be amrophous at room temperature. BaFe12O19 fine particles extracted from amorphous Ba-ferrites which additived Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and CoO have narrow size distribution, average 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$, and coercive force, average 1400 Oe, increased with increasing TiO2 amounts. The obtained BeFe12O19 fine particles would be appreciated as perpendicular magnetic recording media.

  • Interactions between pyridine hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) and m-cresol hydrodeoxygenation(HDO), and the kinetic analysis were studied over sulfided $CoMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst at the range of temperatures between 473 K and 723 K, the total pressures between $10{\times}10^5Pa$ and $50{\times}10^5Pa$, and the contact times between 0.0125 g-cat. hr/ml-feed and 0.03g-cat. hr/ml-feed. HDN of pyridine and HDO of m-cresol were inhibited by each other and the inhibition effect of HDO by pyridine is higher than that of HDN by m-cresol. But reactivity of m-cresol is higher than that of pyridine. The rate equations of pyridine and m-cresol were given to be ${\gamma}_{HDN}=k_{HDN}{\cdot}K_pC_p/(1+K_cC_c+K_pC_p)$ and ${\gamma}_{HDO}=k_{HDO}{\cdot}K_cC_c/(1+K_cC_c+K_pC_p)$ in terms of Langmuir-Hinshellwood-Hougen-Watson model. At each temperature, reaction rate constants and adsorption equilibrium constants were determined and activation energies of pyridine HDN and m-cresol HDO are 13.83kcal/mol, respectively and the heat of adsorption are -6.458 and -5.045kcal/mol, respectively.

  • Repeated additions of untreated slurry to soil affected ecology and caused high levels of heavy metal in soil and ground water. The objective of this study was to evaluate heavy metal from hanwoo slurry with ferrous sulfate ($FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$), aluminum sulfate [$Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}14H_2O$, alum] and aluminum chloride ($AlCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$) as a way to improve environmental management in hanwoo industry. The treatment rates, which were incorporated totally within the hanwoo slurry, were 1.0 g and 1.5 g of ferrous sulfate, alum and aluminum chloride/25 g of hanwoo slurry. The various rates of chemical additives significantly increased dry matter (9.98~13.94%) and decreased pH (3.48~6.52) compared with the controls. The use of chemical additives decreased Fe (11~29%), Al (7~12%), Zn (13~36%), and Cu (4~32%) contents, except for Fe in hanwoo slurry with ferrous sulfate and Al in hanwoo slurry with alum and aluminum chloride. In addition, the reduction in heavy metal should be associated with reduction in pH. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that alum and aluminum chloride additives at rate of 1.5 g were cost-effective management practice that significantly reduces heavy metal from hanwoo slurry, while it may be improved environmental management.

  • Cu/ZnO/$Al_2O_3$ is widely used methanol synthesis catalyst at elevated pressures P (50 to 100 bar) and temperatures T (473 to 573 K) using $CO_2$, CO, $H_2$ syngas mixture. Although Cu step and planar defects have been regarded as active sites in this catalyst, detailed $CO_2$ hydrogenation procedure has been still unknown and debated as well as initial intermediate. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of $CO_2$ hydrogenation on Cu(111) model surface at P (1 bar) and T (298 to 450 K) using reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). Two distinct formates by hydrogenation of $CO_2$, on step and on terrace, show different behavior with elevating temperature. The peak intensity of on step formate was continuously decreased above 360 K up to 450K in contrast to the increase of on terrace formate. These phenomena are strong possibilities that the formate is initial intermediate and is desorbed by hydrogenation reaction because thermal desorption temperature of formate (~470 K) is much higher than desorption of on step formate. And the formate production peak of on step site was weakly correlated with CO formation.

  • The characteristics of the high-performance ceramic coatings fabricated on the optimum processings con-ditions for the atmospheric plasma spraying are evaluated by various material tests and analyses. The opti-mum processing parameters for the plasma spraying are determined by using the two-level orthogonal arrays of fractional factorial testing method as a statistical approach. Material tests for the coating specimens are carried out to evaluate microstructure, hardness, adhesion strength, and deposition efficiency. The properties of Al2O3-13%TiO2 coating are discussed with regard to the effective processings parameters. The decarburization effects of WC-12%Co coating is examined by XRD analysis in terms of the arc power and the secondary gas species. The hardness of Al2O2-13%TiO2 coating is increased with the arc power and shows the maximum value at around 40 lpm of Ar gas flowrate, which appears to be the most critical parame-ter on the deposition efficiency. For reducing the decarburization of WC-12%Co coating, the injection of inert He gas instead of reactive H2 gas as a secondary gas is more effective than the dropping of arc power to lessen the plasma enthalpy.

  • The purpose of this study is to produce high putity composite powder composed of Fe-oxide, Mn-oxide and Mn-ferrite having superior homogencity in composition and particle size distribution by co-roasting process. Binary component metal (Fe, Mn) chloride solutions were produced by dissolving mill scale and ferro-mangancse alloy in hydrochloric acid. These chloride solutions contained the impurities such as SiO$_{2}$, P, Al, Ca and Na, which were originated from the Fe/Mn source materials. The neutralization and polymeric coagulant method were adoped to refine the hydrochloric liquor. When pH is far below the isoelectric point (pH 2-3), the SiO$_{2}$ was the most effectively reduced element, while other impurities remained unchanged. By increasing pH above 3, most of the impurities could be reduced effectively due to the coprecipitation reaction. The polymeric coagulants such as poly vinyl alcohol, resin amine and ammonium molybdate were found to have no effect on the spray roaster designed by the authors. The produced oxide powders were confirmed to be mixtures of Fe-oxide, Mn-oxide and mn-ferrite. the powders were homogeneously mixed and the particle size increased sleeply with increasing co-roasting temperature.

  • Low cost TCO(Transparent Conductive oxide) thin films were prepared by 6" DC/RF magnetron sputtering systems. For the AZO preparation processes a 99.99% AZO target (Zn: 98 wt.%, $Al_2O_3$: 2 wt.%) was used. In order to verify the optical properties of the AZO thin films, the transparency was tested with sputtering conditions using UV-visible spectroscopy. As a result, we got the transmittance properties over 80% and low resistivity in the sputtering conditions of DC 200[W], Ar 30 [sccm], 1 [mtorr], 20 [min].

  • BaMg$Al_{10}O_{17}$ (BAM) co-doped with $Eu^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ was synthesized in a solid-state reaction and their luminescence properties were investigated as functions of the concentrations of the sensitizer and activator. BAM:$Eu^{2+}$ had a broad blue emission band at 450 nm and BAM:$Mn^{2+}$ exhibited green emission at 514 nm. The energy transfer from $Eu^{2+}$ to $Mn^{2+}$ was mainly of the resonance-type via an electric dipole-quadrupole interaction. Additionally, the addition of various fluxes such as $AlF_3$ and $BaF_2$ in the synthesis improves the moist and thermal stability. This is particularly important for the phosphor in white light emitting diodes (LEDs).

  • The time-lag-effect of alkali salts on the gelation of sodium alginate-$CaSO_4{\cdot}$1/2 $H_2O$ is compared with Miyake's data, and then the formation rate of the elastics measured by the continuous method (an improved Schwedoff's method) and the change of rigidity with metallic oxides are studied as follows: (1) The gelation processes of sodium alginate and $CaSO_4{\cdot}$1/2 $H_2O$-aqueous sol are studied by measuring, continuously the increases of tensions ofsamples. (2) The time-lag-effect of $Na_3PO_4$ on the formation rate of the elastic gel is larger than that of $Na_2CO_3$, but the difference between the effects of the two alkali salts on the rate is found not so greater than predicted in Miyake's data. (3) Any regularities of the effect on the rate by metallic oxides are not observed. The increasing effects of the rates of $SiO_2$ and MgO are relatively large, and that of ZnO is relatively small. However, $Al_2O_3$, $Sb_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$show some decreasing effects. As a result it is noted that the regularities do not depend on the effect of oxide species and their amounts. (4) It is not found proportionality between the rigidity and the gelation rate. However, the increasing effect of the rigidity with the addition of metallic oxides can be observed. The rigidity increasing rate of MgO is the largest of them.
