Investigation of Polypyrrole Coatings Containing Nanosized Metal Oxides for Corrosion Protection of AA2024 Al Alloy

  • The corrosion protection of AA2024 PPy coated samples doping with nanosized metal oxides, including $TiO_2$ and $CeO_2$ nanoparticles and $Nd_2O_3$ nanorods, during exposure to the solutions of 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ and 3.5% NaCl was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization resistance (LPR) techniques. The nanorods of $Nd_2O_3$ were synthesized by cathodic pulse electrochemical deposition technique. The barrier properties of the different PPy coatings containing nanosized metal oxides immersed in $H_2SO_4$ solution were ranked as follows: $Nd_2O_3$ > $TiO_2$ > $CeO_2$. Therefore, the $Nd_2O_3$ coating sample provided the highest corrosion protection at any time of immersion up to 72 hours after immersing in $H_2SO_4$ solution. On the other hand, the $CeO_2$ coating sample displayed the best anticorrosive properties among the other coating samples after immersion in NaCl solution up to 28 days. This is due to the inhibition effect of cerium ions on aluminum alloys at near-neutral solutions.

Study on the Effectiveness of Nanostructured Particles and Other Potential Materials in Clearing Smoke (나노결정입자의 연기 제거 효과 가능성 평가 및 신규 물질 검토에 관한 연구)

  • 나노결정입자와 일반 입자를 이용하여 $60cm{\times}60cm{\times}180cm$의 밀폐 공간에서 연기제거 성능을 평가해보았다. MgO, $CeO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, ZnO, $TiO_2$등의 나노결정입자와 $NaHCO_3$ 등의 일반입자를 사용하였다. 실험은 입자를 30초, 1분, 2분 간격으로 연기에 분사하여 시간에 따른 연기 제거 성능을 관찰해 보았고, 아울러 3, $6\;kgf/cm^2$등의 입자 분사 압력 변화에 따른 연기 제거 성능도 평가해 보았다. 평가 결과, $TiO_2{\fallingdotseq}MgO$ > ZnO > $CeO_2$ > $NaHCO_3$ > $Al_2O_3$의 순으로 연기 제거 성능이 우수하였다. MgO와 $TiO_2$를 분사한 경우 자연스럽게 연기가 제거 되는 속도보다 약 10배 정도로 빠르게 연기가 제거되었다. 분사압력이 $6\;kgf/cm^2$에서 $3\;kgf/cm^2$로 감소하면, 입자가 연기와 부딪히는 힘이 약하고 분출양이 작아서 연기 제거 성능도 아울러 감소한 것으로 판단된다. 연기 제거 성능은 입자의 특성, 분출 압력, 분출 양, 분사 노즐의 크기 등에 영향을 받는다. 따라서 효과적인 연기제거를 위해서는 이러한 조건을 최적화하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구는 이러한 연기 제거 입자가 실제 화재에 적용하는 것을 최종적 목표로 한다.

Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties on PSN-PMN-PZT Composition according to CeO2 Addition (PSN-PMN-PZT 조성의 CeO2첨가에 따른 압전.유전특성 변화)

  • 0.03Pb$(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_{3}-0.03Pb(Mn{1/3}Nb{2/3)O_{3}-(0.94-x)PbTiO_{3}-xPbZrO_{3}$ ceramics doped with $CeO_{2}$ were synthesized by conventional bulk ceramic processing technique. Phases analysis, microstructures and piezoelectric properties were investigated as a function of $CeO_{2}$ content (0.03, 0.05, 0.1 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 wt%). Microstructures and phases information were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Mechanical quality factor ($Q_{m}$) and coupling factor(kp) were obtained from the resonance measurement method. Both $Q_{m}$ and $k_{p}$ were shown to reach to the maximum at 0.1 wt% $CeO_{2}$. In order to evaluate the stability of resonance frequency and effective electromechanical coupling factor ($K_{eff}$) as a function of $CeO_{2}$, the variation of resonance and anti-resonance frequency were also measured using a high voltage frequency response analyzer under various alternating electric fields from 10 V/mm to 80 V/mm. It was shown that the stability of resonance frequency and effective electromechanical coupling factor were increased with increasing the $CeO_{2}$ contents.

  • This study aims to evaluate arsenic adsorption efficiencies over various metal oxides (CeO2, TiO2, Fe3O4, ZrO2, AlOOH, SiO2, α-Al2O3, and γ-Al2O3) and investigate the correlation between physico-chemical characteristics of metal oxides and their efficiencies. From XPS, XRD BET analysis and isotherm adsorption test, TiO2 powder showed that the best adsorption efficiency, and it's mechanism was highly depended on the chemical adsorption.

  • Ferroelectric Cerium-substituted $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films with a thickness of 200 nm were deposited using the liquid delivery metal organic chemical vapor deposition process onto a Pt(111)/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) substrate. At annealing temperature above $600^{\circ}C$, the BCT thin films became crystallized and exhibited a polycrystalline structure. The BCT thin film annealed at $720^{\circ}C$ showed a large remanent polarization ($2P_r$) of $44.56\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 5V. The BCT thin film exhibits a good fatigue resistance up to $1{\times}10^{11}$ switching cycles at a frequency of 1 MHz with applied electric field of ${\pm}5\;V$.

Use of High-Temperature Gas-Tight Electrochemical

  • By using a gas-tight electrochemical cell, we can perform high-temperature coulometric titration and measure electronic transport properties to determine the elecronic defect structure of metal oxides. This technique reduces the time and expense required for conventional thermogravimetric measurements. The components of the gas-tight coulometric titration cell are an oxygen sensor, Pt/yttria stabilitized zirconia(YSZ)/Pt, and an encapsulated metal oxide sample. Based on cell design, both transport and thermodynamic measurements can be performed over a wide range of oxygen partial pressure ($pO_2=10^{-35}$ to 1 atm). This paper describes the high-temperature gas-tight electrochemical cells used to determine electronic defect structures and transport properties for pure and doped-oxide systems, such as YSZ, doped and pure ceria $(Ca-CeO_2 \;and\; CeO_2)$, copper oxides and copper-oxide-based ceramic superconductors, transition metal oxides, $SrFeCo_{0.5}O_x,\; and \;BaTiO_2$.

SCC Inhibitors for SG Tube Materials in Nuclear Power Plants

  • Several chemicals were studied to suppress the damage due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of steam generator (SG) tubes in nuclear power plants. The effects on the SCC of the compounds, $TiO_2$, TyzorLA and $CeB_6$, were tested for several types of SG tubing materials. The test with the addition of $TiO_2$ and $CeB_6$ showed an effect in decreasing the SCC for the SG tubing material. However, $CeB_6$ caused some more SCC for Alloy 800. The penetration property into a crevice of the inhibitors was investigated by using Alloy 600 specimens with different gap.

졸-겔 방법을 이용한 BaGd2TiO13 구조의 제작

  • Ce3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Tb3+ 등 희토류를 도핑한 여러 종류의 형광체는 백색 LED (white light-emitting diode), 전계방출표시소자(field emission display), 플라즈마디스플레이패널(plasma display panel), 약물 운송(drug delivery) 등 다양한 분야에서 응용되고 있다. 최근에는 졸-겔 방법(sol-gel method)을 이용하여Y2SiO5, Y3-XGdxAl5O12, SrAl2O4 등 여러 종류의 호스트 물질을 합성하여 형광체의 특성을 분석하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이러한 졸-겔 방법은 비교적 낮은 온도에서 간단한 공정으로 좋은 균질성과 높은 생산성을 갖도록 형광체를 제작할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 졸-겔 방법을 이용하여 BaGd2TiO13구조를 제작하였고, 이러한 구조적, 광학적 특성을 분석하기 위하여 열분석기(thermal analyzer), 전계방출형주사전자현미경(field emission scanning electron microscopy), 투과전자현미경(field emission transmission electron microscopy)을 이용하였다. 이러한 졸-겔 방법을 이용하여 제작한 BaGd2TiO13 구조의 형광체 적용 연구를 통한 디스플레이 및 백색 LED 응용에 유용할 것으로 기대된다.

Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering PMW-PNN-PZT Substituted with CeMnO3 (CeMnO3가 치환된 저온소결 PMW-PNN-PZT 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전 특성)

  • In this study, $(1-x)Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})_{0.03}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.09}(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.88}O_3+xCeMnO_3$ (x= 0~0.02) ceramics were prepared by Columbite precursor method. The phase structure, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were systematically investigated. It was found that PMW-PNN-PZT possessed superior electrical properties due to its composition close to the MPB (morphotropic phase boundary). Coercive electric field of 10.05 [kV/cm] and density of 7.88 [$g/cm^3$] were obtained when the substitution amount of $CeMnO_3$ is x=0.02. In contrast, specimens with x=0.01 showed the mechanical quality factor($Q_m$) of 1,091 and the electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$) of 0.613.
