Background: We have previously reported that not only cGMP but also 8-Br-cGMP or 8-pCPT-cGMP, specific and potent stimulators of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGMP-PK), increased basal L-type calcium current $(I_{Ca})$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. Our findings in rabbit ventricular myocytes were entirely different from the earlier findings in different species, suggesting that the activation of cGMP-PK is involved in the facilitation of $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP. However, there is no direct evidence that cGMP-PK can stimulate $I_{Ca}}$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. In this report, we focused on the direct effect of cGMP-PK on $I_{Ca}}$ in rabbit ventricular myocytes. Methods and Results: We isolated single ventricular myocytes of rabbit hearts by using enzymatic dissociation. Regulation of $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK was investigated in rabbit ventricular myocytes using whole-cell voltage clamp method. $I_{Ca}}$ was elicited by a depolarizing pulse to +10 mV from a holding potential of -40 mV. Extracellular 8-(4-Chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (8-pCPT-cGMP), potent stimulator of cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGMP-PK), increased basal $I_{Ca}}$. cGMP-PK also increased basal $I_{Ca}}$. The stimulation of basal $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK required both 8-Br-cGMP in low concentration and intracellular ATP to be present. The stimulation of basal $I_{Ca}}$ by cGMP-PK was blocked by heat inactivation of the cGMP-PK and by bath application of 8-(4-chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate, Rp-isomer (Rp-pCPT-cGMP), a phosphodiesterase-resistant cGMP-PK inhibitor. When $I_{Ca}}$ was increased by internal application of cGMP-PK, IBMX resulted in an additional stimulation of $I_{Ca}}$. In the presence of cGMP-PK, already increased $I_{Ca}}$ was potentiated by bath application of isoprenaline or forskolin or intracellular application of cAMP. Conclusions: We present evidence that cGMP-PK stimulated basal $I_{Ca}}$ by a direct phosphorylation of L-type calcium channel or associated regulatory protein in rabbit ventricular myocytes.
Two crystal structures of dehydrated $Ag_{3.3}Ca_{4.35}-A ({\alpha} = 12.256(2){\AA})$ and of its ethylene sorption complex (${\alpha} = 12.259(2){\AA}$) have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m at 21(l)$^{\circ}$C. Both crystals were dehydrated at 360$^{\circ}$C and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr for 2 days and one crystal was treated with 200 Torr of ethylene at 24(2)$^{\circ}$C. The structures were refined to final error indices, $R_1$=O.065 and $R_2$ = 0.088 with 202 reflections and $R_1$=0.049 and $R_2$ = 0.044 with 259 reflections, respectively, for which I>3${\sigma}$(I). In these structures, all Ag$^+$ and Ca$^{2+}$ ions are located on two and three different threefold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens, respectively. In $Ag_{3.3}Ca_{4.35}-A{\cdot}6.65\;C_2H_4,\;3.3\;Ag^+\;and\;3.35\;Ca^{2+}$ ions are recessed 1.09 ${\AA}$ and 0.21 ${\AA}$, respectively, into the large cavity from the (111) plane at O(3). Each Ag$^+$ and Ca$^{2+}$ ion in the large cavity forms a complex with one $C_2H_4$$^{2+}$ ions and ethylene molecules are longer than those between Ag$^+$ ions and ethylene molecules.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of the pretreatment and infrared drying methods on the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities of dried peaches. The pretreatment methods were the 30 min treatment of NaCl, vitamin C, and soluble Ca (1:5 w/v immersion ratio), and leaving them untreated before infrared drying at $55^{\circ}C$ for 20 hr. The moisture content was lower in the pre-treated group and was significantly lowest in the 0.3% NaCl. The titratable acidity and soluble solid content and acid ratio (SS/TA) were high for the vitamin C and soluble Ca groups. The browning degree and cutting strength of the dried peach were lower in the pre-treated group. The total sugar content in the 0.3% NaCl group was significantly higher than those in the vitamin C and soluble Ca groups. The Ca contents were more effective in the soluble Ca treated group and increased with higher Ca concentration. The sensory evaluation results indicated that the organoleptic scores for the overall preference were higher in the 0.1% vitamin C treated group. The phenolic compounds and ABTS radical scavenging ability were high for the 0.1% vitamin C and 0.1% soluble Ca treated groups. These results suggest that pretreatment affected the qualities of the dried peaches, showing that infrared drying can be applied to the production of high quality dried peach products.
EPMA and XPS on $Bi_2Sr_2-\chi_LCa_1+\chi_LCu_2O_{8+d}$($\chi_L$ = 0.01, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6) films by LPE method were performed in order to investigate Sr and Ca distributions in SrO- and Ca-layers. It is found that $T_C^{zero}$ carrier concentration and lattice parameter c monotonically decreases with increasing $\chi_L$. Sr and Ca contents in Ca-layer change in proportion to that in melt. On the other hand, in SrO-layer, Ca content strongly depends on Sr content in that layer and not on Ca content in melt. Since deficiency in SrO-layer increases and $T_C^{zero}$ creases with $\chi_L$,t is found that the deficiencies of Sr and Ca atoms in the SrO-layer has a influence on reducing $T_C^{zero}$.

Microwave dielectric properties and multilayer characteristics $(1-x)BiNbO_4-xCaNb_2O_6$ (0${\le}$x${\le}$1.0) ceramics were investigated as a function of $CaNb_2O_6$ content. In the composition range of 0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75, the mixture phases of $BiNbO_4$ with stibotantalate structure and $CaNb_2O_6$ with columbite structure were detected and secondary phase or phase transition were not detected. Dielectric constant (K) of $(1-x)BiNbO_4-xCaNb_2O_6$ ceramics was largely dependent on the existing phase and could be estimated by the dielectric mixing rule calculated from maxwell equation. Typically, dielectric constant (K) of 26, quality factor (Qf) of 4300 GHz and Temperature Coefficient of resonant Frequency (TCF) of -18 ppm/${\circ}C$ were obtained for $0.5BiNbO_4-0.5CaNb_2O_6$ specimens with 0.8 wt% $CuV_2O_6$ sintered at 1000${\circ}C$ for 3h. The deviation of X-Y shrinkage and camber value of the multilayers obtained from $0.5BiNbO_4-0.5CaNb_2O_6$ green sheet sintered at 850∼950${\circ}C$ for 20 min. were smaller than those of $BiNbO_4$ multilayers.

Microwave dielectric properties of the $MgTiO_3-CaTiO_3$ ceramics were investigated for GPS antenna fabrication. (1-X) $MgTiO_3-X CaTiO_3$ ceramics with X=7 mol% sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ exhibited can be dielectric constant of 20.6, the quality factor of 52,500 and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of -1.5 [ppm/$^{\circ}C$]. The results of $0.93MgTiO_3-0.070CaTiO_3$ ceramics with $P_2O_5$/ 0.6 wt% sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ exhibited can be dielectric constant of 21, the quality factor of 58,000 and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of 2.6 [ppm/${\circ}C$]. The size, insertion loss, center frequency and band width of GPS antenna were $20.5{\times}20.5{\times}6[mm]$,-10(dB) and 1575.42(MHz) respectively. The insertion loss, center frequency and band width of the fabricated GPS antenna were -11 (dB), 1579(MHz) and 22(MHz) respectively. The center frequency was higher than design result, but other characteristics of GPS antenna were similar to the results of design result.
Sr0.6Ca0.4CuO2 single crystal has been synthesized by flux method and characterized by the single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound has the orthorhombic system and the space group is Cmcm(63), lattice parameters are a=3.4645Å, b=16.1417Å, c=3.8727Å. In the (Sr1-xCax)CuO2 compound the limit of Ca from substitution for Sr was determined by the change of bond length. For this, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDAX) and electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) were used. From the change of Cu-O bond length as the Ca substitution, we concluded the limit of Ca incorporation Xca≒0.73.

To investigate the underlying mechanisms of C18 fatty acids (stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid) on mast cells, we measured the effect of C18 fatty acids on intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization and histamine release in RBL-2H3 mast cells. Stearic acid rapidly increased initial peak of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization, whereas linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid gradually increased this mobilization. In the absence of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$, stearic acid ($100{\mu}M$) did not cause any increase of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization. Both linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid increased intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization, but the increase was smaller than that in the presence of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$. These results suggest that C18 fatty acid-induced intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization is mainly dependent on extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ influx. Verapamil dose-dependently inhibited stearic acid-induced intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization, but did not affect both linoleic acid- and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid-induced intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization. These data suggest that the underlying mechanism of stearic acid, linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid on intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization may differ. Linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid significantly increased histamine release. Linoleic acid (C18:2: ${\omega}$-6)-induced intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization and histamine release were more prominent than ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid (C18:3: ${\omega}$-3). These data support the view that the intake of more ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid than linoleic acid is useful in preventing inflammation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate a proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio in nutrient solution to produce marjoram and oregano by hydroponics. Two herbs were grown for 40 days with the $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of 3.5;13, 4.5:11(standard herb's nutrient solution), 5.5:9 and 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ of herb's nutrient solution developed by European Vegetable R &D Center, Belgium. The ratio of 5.5:9, and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ showed better results in growth of marjoram than other treatments. Vitamin C contents and amounts of esential oil were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7, respectively. Inoregano, the growth and vitamin C contents were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The content (%) and amount (mg/plant) of essential oil were the highest in the ratio of 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$. These results indicated that 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$were proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of nutrient solution of marjoram and oregano, respectively, by hydropoinics.
