Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Novel Organohydroborate Hafnocene Complex (η5-C5H5)2Hf{(μ-H)2BC8H14)}Cl

  • The compound B(C6F5)3 and its variations have been widely employed as alkyl carbanion abstracting reagents to produce metallocene cations for olefin polymerization.1-3 Weakly coordinating anions containing boron can greatly improve the activity of metallocene catalysts used in industrial olefin polymerization4 and thus group IV and V metallocene complexes of the organohydroborate anions have been intensively investigated.5 Recently, many organohydroborate metallocene complexes have been reported by Shore and co-workers.6-8 A common structural feature of those complexes is the three-center two electron M-H-B bond, like that observed in transition metal tetrahydroborate complexes but the reactivity and fluxional behavior of organohydroborate complexes are unlike those of the tetrahydroborate analogues.6 Although many of those metallocenes have been synthesized, few complexes could be used in the olefin polymerization and then this laboratory has been involved in the chemistry of the cyclic organohydroborate anions, and their group IV metallocene derivatives for the catalyst.9 Described here is recent work that led to the preparation of a novel cyclic organohydroborate hafnocene complex (h5-C5H5)2Hf ?(μ-H)2BC8H14 ,Cl. The hafnocene complex contains the three-center two electron bond Hf-H-B10 in which the hydride abstraction for olefin polymerization may occur.

Effects of Deposition Conditions on the Deposition rate and physical properties of $SnO_2$ film produced by CVD (CVD에 의한 $SnO_2$ Film 제조시 증착조건이 Film의 증착속도 및 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • Chemical vapor deposition of $SnO_2$ on Pyrex glass substrate has been investigated using $SnCl_4$ and Oxygen at relatively low temperatures(300-500$^{\circ}C$). The critical flow rate, which delineated the surface reaction controlled region from the mass transfer controlled region, was increased with deposition temperature. The apparent activation energy obtained in surface reaction controlled region was about 6Kcal/mole. The results show that deposition rate, electrical conductivity and transmittance were affected mainly by partial pressure of $SnCl_4$, but little by partial pressure f oxygen. The % transmission of 5000A-thick $SnO_2$ film was about 90% in visible spectrum region and sheet resistance was varied in 0.1-10${\Omega}$ per square shaped portion of the outer surface of the oxide.

  • Hundred mineral deposits including W-Mo, Pb-Zn-Cu, fluorite and talc occur in the Cambre-Ordovician limestone contacting with the Cretaceous Muamsa and Wolak granitoids in the Susanri-Hwanggangri mineralized zone. In most mineral deposits characterized by metasomatic replacement, skarn and hydrothermal vein types, two distinct tendencies were found as W-Mo mineralization in or/and near granitoid batholith and ($Pb-Zn-Cu(CaF_2)$) mineralization which is gradually increased toward the batholith. W-Mo veins of extensive vein system occupy northly striking fractures whilst $Pb-Zn-Cu-CaF_2$ veins strike northeast or northwest. In this work, three representative lead-zinc-copper deposits choosing the Dangdu, Useog and Eoksu mines were dealt with in detail. Skarn ore bodies in the Dangdu mine were grouped into early diopside rich clinopyoxene-garnet, barren skarn and ore bearing late hedenbergite rich clinopyroxene-garnet skarn. Temperature and $X_{CO_2}$, obtained from hedenbergite-andradite-calcite-quartz mineral equilibria in the Dangdu ore deposits were $580{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ and 0.15~0.3, respectively. Fluid inclusien evidence in the Useog mine indicates that main stage mineralization temperature ranges from 224 to $389^{\circ}C$ with a salinity of 2~17 equivalent wt. percent NaCl. Sphalerites from the Dangdu and Useog mines have 16~17.7 mole percent in FeS which is relatively consistent to those of some other lend-zinc ore deposits in South Korea. Filling tcmjCerature of fluid inclusion frem the Eoksu mine shows deposition of ore within the temperature ranges from 237 to $347^{\circ}C$ and within the salinity ranges from 2.6 to 10.77 equivalent wt. percent NaCl.

Synthesis of ${\alpha}$-Alumina Nanoparticles Through Partial Hydrolysis of Aluminum Chloride Vapor (염화알미늄 증기의 부분가수분해를 통한 알파 알루미나 나노입자 제조)

  • Spherical alumina precursors represented by $AlO_xCl_y(OH)_z$, 30~200 nm in particle diameter, were prepared by partial hydrolysis of $AlCl_3$ vapor in a 500 ml reactor. Investigated on the particle morphology and size were the effects of the reaction time, the stirring speed and the reaction temperature. The particle morphology and size was insensitive to the reaction time in the range 20 to 300 s. The variation of the stirring speed from 0 to 300 and 800 rpm showed that the particle size was the largest at 0 rpm. As the temperature was varied from 180 to 190, 200, $140^{\circ}C$, the particle size showed a maximum at $190^{\circ}C$. By calcination of the as-produced particles at $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 6h with a heating rate of $10^{\circ}C$/min, ${\alpha}$-alumina particles 45 nm in surface area equivalent diameter were obtained. The particle shape after calcination turned wormlike due to sintering between neighboring particles. A rapid calcination at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 h with a higher heating rate of $50^{\circ}C$/min reduced the sintering considerably. An addition of $SiCl_4$ or TMCTS(2,4,6,8-tetramethylcyclosiloxane) to the $AlCl_3$ reduced the sintering effectively in the calcination step; however, peaks of ${\gamma}$ or mullite phase appeared. An addition of $AlF_3$ to the particles obtained from the hydrolysis resulted in a hexagonal disc shaped alumina particles.

Predicting and Extending the Shelf Life of Red Cabbage Sprouts (적양배추싹의 Shelf Life 예측 및 Aqueous ClO2, Fumaric Acid, UV-C 병합처리)

  • To estimate the shelf life of red cabbage sprouts (stored at 4 and $10^{\circ}C$), the numbers of total aerobic bacteria were determined during storage. Parameters for the Gompertz model were determined and the shelf life was predicted using a modified Gompertz equation. The estimated shelf lives of red cabbage sprouts packed with polyolefin film and polyamide/polyamide/polyethylene (PA/PA/PE) film at $4^{\circ}C$ were 49.4 and 52.3 h, respectively, whereas those of red cabbage sprouts packed with polyolefin film and PA/PA/PE film at $10^{\circ}C$ were 19.7 and 22.6, respectively. The shelf life prediction equation was appropriate, based on the statistical analysis of the accuracy factor, bias factor, and mean square error. On the other hand, for red cabbage sprouts treated with aqueous $ClO_2$/fumaric acid and UV-C then packed with polyolefin film or PA/PA/PE film, the shelf life was predicted to be longer than 168 h. These results suggest that the combined treatment of aqueous $ClO_2$/fumaric acid and UV-C can be useful for improving microbial safety and extending the shelf life of red cabbage sprouts during storage.

  • 1) Respiratory metabolism patterns and its enzyme systems in the gill tissue of the fresh water mussels, Cristaria plicata were investigated through the examination on the effects of respiratory enzyme inhibitors, (KCN, NAF) and succinoxidase assay, while studying the effects of neutral salts (NaCL, KCL, CaCl2) and pH on oxygen consumption of the gill tissue. 2) In the limited concentration of KCL (0.3mM) and NaCl (0.4mM) solutions, oxygen consumption of the intact gill tissue was accelerated, but in CaCl2(0.5mM) solution, it showed no significant effect. The oxygen consumption was gradually decreased at the above concentrations of these limitations. The optimum pH for the respiration of the gill was 7.3. 3)Cyanide in 10-8M solution inhibited 88.8% of the respiration of the intact gill tissue. Methylene blue accelerated the respiration of the noral gill tissue, and slightly but significantly reversed the cyaniide poisoned respiration. 4)Oxygen consumption of the gill homogenate was apparently increased by the mixed addition of succinate, cytochrome c and activators (AlCl3 and CaCl2). This results suggested that succinoxidase system acts on the respiratory pattern of the gil tissue. 5) It was able to recognize that the enolase, which acts on the anaerobic glycolytic system, participated in the tissue respiration of the gill for NaF in 5$\times$10-2 M solution inhibited 55.5% of the respiration of the same intact tissue.

Influence of oxyfluorination on activated carbon nanofibers for CO2 storage

  • The oxyfluorination effects of activated carbon nanofibers (OFACFs) were investigated for $CO_2$ storage. Electrospun CFs were prepared from a polyacrylonitrile/N,N-dimethylformamide solution via electrospinning and heat treatment. The electrospun CFs were chemically activated in order to generate the pore structure, and then oxyfluorination was used to modify the surface. The samples were labeled CF (electrospun CF), ACF (activated CF), OFACF-1 ($O_2:F_2$ = 7:3), OFACF-2 ($O_2:F_2$ = 5:5) and OFACF-3 ($O_2:F_2$ = 3:7). The functional group of OFACFs was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The C-F bonds formed on surface of ACFs. The intensities of the C-O peaks increased after oxyfluorination and increased the oxygen content in the reaction gas. The specific surface area, pore volume and pore size of OFACFs were calculated by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and density functional theory equation. Through the $N_2$ adsorption isotherm, the specific surface area and pore volume slightly decreased as a result of oxyfluorination treatment. Nevertheless, the $CO_2$ adsorption efficiency of oxyfluorinated ACF improved around 16 wt% due to the semi-ionic interaction effect of surface modificated oxygen functional groups and $CO_2$ molecules.

  • The boronizing effects of STD 61 steel have been studied on the micro structure and hardness. The STD 61 Steel was soaked in molten salt, consisted of KCl, $BaCl_2$, NaF, $B_2O_3$, FeB, and Ce, at various temperatures and times. The boronizing conditions for the peak hardness were the temperature range of $900^{\circ}C$ to $950^{\circ}C$ for 5 hr and that of $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr, respectively. Four boride layers such as FeB, $Fe_2B$, ${\alpha}$ and matrix layer surface were observed from the microscopic surface examination. The thickness of boride layer was increased by increasing the boronizing time and the temperature. The structure of boride layer was tooth shape.

A Study on the Recovery of Aluminum from Aluminum dross (알루미늄 드로스로부터 알루미늄의 회수에 관한 연구)

  • The aluminum was recovered from the middle size (Q1.0-12.0 mm) aluminum drosses using NaCl and KC1 mixuture as a basic salt flux. The maximum aluminum recovery was about 76.9% when 40% basic salt flux was added to aluminum dross at 850$^{\circ}$C for two hours. Also, aluminum remvery increased with increasing fluoride (1%-5%) addition to basic salt flux. But, there was no considerable effect due ta the increasing of viscosity when the fluorides were added over 5%, respectively. E s p d y , the most aluminum recovery was about 83.5% when 5% cryolite was added to 40% basic salt flux.

  • Synthesis of perfluoromethanesulfonyl fluoride(PFMSF) which is a valuable precursor of perfluoro-chemicals such as surface modifier and fine chemicals was studied by electrochemical fluorination (ECF). In order to determine the termination of preelectrolysis, it was carried to monitor the variation of current during preelectrolysis by means of constant cell voltage operation. In a batch cell, chronopotentiometric electrolysis and various chemical analysis such as GC, GC/MS and If were used to understand the potential change of electrode and synthesis and control of hazardous gases products. Termination of preelectrolysis was determinated by measurement the current and/or detection of $F_2$ gas generation. And during the preelectrolysis, an amount of generated $OF_2$ was shown that a lot of moisture was absorbed from air when a cell was filled with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride( AHF ). Above 4V cell voltage, $F_2$ gas was generated and acted on any form of fluorinating agents. In the ECF of MSC (methane sulfonyl chloride) by constant current operation, the potential of anode was intimately relation with generation of $SO_2F_2$. Exchange of Cl to F was dominatly occured in a initial stage. There were various gaseous products including PFMSF as main product and $C_4$ compounds.
