  • This paper presents performance improvement of CO gas sensor signal conditioner for early fire warning system. The warning system is based on the CO sensor and its advanced signal conditioning modules network that employ electochemical gas sensor. The electochemical has advantage of having a linear output and operating with a low consumption and fast response. This electrochemical gas sensor contains a gas membrane and three electrodes(working, counter, reference electrode) in contact with an electrolyte. To use a three-electrode sensor, a voltage has to be applied between the working and the reference electrode according to the specification of the sensor. In this paper, we designed these requirements that should be considered in temperature compensation algorithm and electrode measurement of CO sensor modules by using advanced signal conditioning method included 3-electrode. Simulation and experimental results show that signal conditioner of CO sensor module using 3-electrode have a advantage linearity, sensitivity and stability, fast response etc..

  • In this paper, a portable high efficiency nondispersive infrared(NDIR) $CO_2$ sensor module with a smart device interface is developed. For low power consumption design, an IR LED was used instead of tungsten lamp for light source and an optical waveguide optimized to the sensor module is designed. With the smart device interface, power of the sensor module is applied from the battery of smart phone. The measured data of the sensor module such as $CO_2$ concentration, temperature, and humidity are displayed on the smart phone using android application. From measured results, the developed sensor module shows ${\pm}60ppm$ tolerance error from 0 to 3,000ppm $CO_2$ concentration range among $-10^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$ ranges.

  • In this study, a Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) Carbon Dioxide (CO2) sensor with an externally exposed optical cavity is proposed for improving sensitivity. NDIR CO2 sensors with high performance must use a lamp-type infrared (IR) source with a strong IR intensity. However, a lamp-type IR source generates high thermal energy that induces thermal noise, interfering with the accuracy of the CO2 concentration measure. To solve this problem, the optical cavity of the NDIR CO2 sensor is exposed to quickly dissipate heat. As a result, the proposed NDIR CO2 sensor has a shorter warm-up time and a higher sensitivity compared to the conventional NDIR CO2 sensor.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the adaptability of the CO sensor as a fire detector by analyzing its sensing characteristics on fire. In order to test the applicability, we designed and made a fire testing ground whose size is similar to that regulated by UL 268, carried out real fire tests suggested by UL 268, and conducted a comparison analysis on the sensing characteristics between the CO sensor and a photoelectric smoke detector by different types of fire source. The experiment result to the sensing characteristics of the CO sensor is about twice to three times faster than that of the photoelectric smoke detector, proceeding with incomplete combustion such as paper and wood fire source in the initial fire. Especially in case of wood smoldering fire, sensing characteristics of the CO sensor is very excellent.

  • In this paper, we propose a new time synchronization algorithm using CoAP(constrained-application protocol) in sensor network environment, which handles a technique that synchronizes an explicit timestamp between sensor nodes not including an additional module for time-setting and sensor node gateway linked to internet time server. CoAP is a standard protocol for sensor data communication among sensor nodes and sensor node gateway to be built much less memory and power supply in constrained network surroundings including serious network jitter, packet losses, etc. We have supplied an exact time synchronization implementation among small and cheap IP-based sensor nodes or non-IP based sensor nodes and sensor node gateway in sensor network using CoAP message header's option extension. On behalf of conventional network time synchronization method, as our approach uses an exclusive protocol 'CoAP' in sensor network, it is not to become an additional burden for synchronization service to sensor nodes or sensor node gateway. This method has an average error about 2ms comparing to NTP service and offers a low-cost and robust network time synchronization algorithm.

  • In automatic welding process using a robot, seam tracking is one of the important parts. Sensor for seam tracking is divided broadly into two categories as non contact sensor and contact sensor. The arc sensor is one of the non contact sensors, and it can be applied in weaving arc and rotating arc welding process. In such the arc sensors, rotating arc sensor can be applied to high speed welding over tens of Hz. The decrease of self regulation by high rotating speed causes to improve accuracy and response of sensor. In this study, fuzzy controller was used to track the seam for the $CO_2$ arc welding which had unstable arc. It could be shown that the rotating arc sensor was better than the weaving arc sensor.

  • We present a novel non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) $CO_2$ gas sensor with a light source emitting collimated light. Using this thermopile, we also have successfully developed a small, sensitive NDIR $CO_2$ detector module for accurate air quality monitoring systems in energy-saving building and automotive applications. The novel sample cavity comprising specular reflectors around the light bulb is configured to uniformly emit collimated light into the entrance aperture of the cavity in order to enhance the sensitivity of NDIR $CO_2$ detector.

  • This study focuses on the development of the Electrochemical type $CO_2$ sensor Module by using solid electrolyte which was first developed in our country. The module applied the creative fundamentals that the voltage state generated from Electro-chemical reaction using new materials is converted into $CO_2$ ppm. The study verified the accurate of Electromotive Force(EMF) through the experiment using high-impedance opamp(INA332) to measure EMF which ranges from 100mV to 600mV to be outputted from $CO_2$ sensor, and the small electric current of some nano-ampere(nA)

  • An efficient carbon monoxide (CO) sensor was developed based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy)thiophenepoly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) modified with a new pyrimidine-fused heterocyclic compound, bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)dihydropyrido[2,3-d:6,5-d]dipyrimidine-tetraone (B2HDDT). B2HDDT remains stable in the polymer matrix through interactions with functional groups of the polymer. It created prominent sites that captured CO gas, and the experimental parameters, including the amount of doped B2HDDT in the PEDOT:PSS film, were optimized. The sensor probe was also examined to verify its reliability for detecting CO in the presence of atmospheric gases in a discriminating manner. NMR, AFM, and FT-IR spectra were obtained to evaluate the structure and morphology of the B2HDDT-doped PEDOT:PSS (PEDOT:PSS/B2HDDT) film. The content of 35 vol % B2HDDT (7.0 mM) in PEDOT:PSS provided the largest response factor (${\Delta}R/R_o$) for the CO gas. The sensor response was reproducible, with a relative standard deviation < 5% (n = 5). The detection limit was determined to be $0.44{\pm}0.05$ vol %.

  • In this study, we carried out a basic study for the development of optical transcutaneous $pCO_{2}$ gas sensor and analyzer using non-invasive method. The basic principle of $pCO_{2}$ measurement is adapted Beer lambert's law and embodied the system using NDIR method. This measuring system was composed of a IR lamp, a optical filter, a optical reaction chamber, pyroelectric sensor and a signal process. We measured $EtCO_{2}'s$ concentration in basis step instead of $pCO_{2}$ gas that can collect by inflicting heat in outer skin. We minimize the size of optical reaction chamber which takes up the largest volume, to make the portable sensor. We made optical reaction chamber in Si wafer using MEMS technology and the optical reaction chamber was shortened to 2 mm and we carried out an experiment. When we injected the $EtCO_{2}$ to the inside of the optical reaction chamber, we could confirm change of 4.6 mV. The system response time was within 2 second that is fairly fast.
