This research was conducted to examine the changes in growth and production of Oryza sativa L. cv. Ilmi, which was developed to cultivate high yielding rice variety in the Southern plains of Korea. The seedlings of the rice were cultivated from May to October in 2012 under three different conditions: control, AC-AT, ambient $CO_2$ + ambient temperature; AC-ET, ambient $CO_2$ + elevated temperature; EC-ET, elevated $CO_2$ + elevated temperature. The aboveground biomass, belowground biomass, the total biomass of the rice, and panicle weight per individual were the heaviest in the EC-ET. But, the number of grains per panicle and the weight of one grain was higher at the condition of AC-ET and EC-ET than that of AC-AT. The number of tiller was higher at the condition of AC-AT and AC-ET than that of EC-ET. However, there was no significant difference in the number of panicles per individual and the ripened grain rate among the control and global warming treatments. Crop yield was the highest in the EC-ET. This result means that the global warming condition should be considered in the selection of suitable paddy field for the limibyeo in the future.
The iron uptake and utilization pathways play a critical role in allowing human pathogens, including Cryptococcus neoformans, the causative agent of fatal meningoencephalitis, to survive within the mammalian body by competing with the host for iron. Here we show that the iron regulon is also required for diverse environmental stress responses and that in C. neoformans, it is regulated by the high-osmolarity glycerol response (HOG) pathway. Between CFO1 and CFO2, two ferroxidase genes in the iron regulon, CFO1 but not CFO2 was induced during oxidative and osmotic stress. Interestingly, we found that the HOG pathway repressed basal expression of both CFO1 and CFO2. Furthermore, when the HOG pathway was blocked, CFO2 also responded to oxidative and osmotic stress and the response of CFO1 was increased. We also established that CFO1 plays a major role in responding and adapting to diverse environmental stresses, including oxidative and genotoxic damage, osmotic fluctuations, heavy metal stress, and stress induced by cell membrane destabilizers. Therefore, our findings indicate that in C. neoformans, the iron uptake and utilization pathways are not only required for iron acquisition and survival, but also play a significant role in the environmental stress response through crosstalk with the HOG pathway.
This paper investigates the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) for carbon dioxide $CO_2$ emissions and its causal relationships with economic growth and openness by using time series data (1971-2006) from China (an emerging market), Korea (a newly industrialized country), and Japan (a developed country). The sample countries span a whole range of development stages from industrialized to newly industrialized and emerging market economies. The environmental consequences according to openness and economic growth do not show uniform results across the countries. Depending on the national characteristics, the estimated EKC show different temporal patterns. China shows an N-shaped curve while Japan has a U-shaped curve. Such dissimilarities are also found in the relationship between $CO_2$ emissions and openness. In the case of Korea, and Japan it represents an inverted U-shaped curve while China shows a U-shaped curve. We also analyze the dynamic relationships between the variables by adopting a vector auto regression or vector error correction model. These models through the impulse response functions allow for analysis of the causal variable's influence on the dynamic response of emission variables, and it adopts a variance decomposition to explain the magnitude of the forecast error variance determined by the shocks to each of the causal variables over time. Results show evidence of large heterogeneity among the countries and variables impacts.
In this study we investigated effects of supplementation with ethyl acetate extracts of the brown alga Eisenia bicyclis on innate immune cells to evaluate the possibilities as an immunomoulator in exercise stress. Twenty male SD rats were divided into four groups and the treatments were as follows: A, no Eisenia bicyclis extract (EBE) (200 mg/kg) intake and maintained at rest ; B, no EBE intake and undergoing exercise ; C, EBE intake and undergoing exercise ; D, EBE intake and maintained at rest. After 5 weeks of oral supplementation, rats were undergoing intensive swimming exercises for 2 h and sacrificed to assess the effects on peritoneal macrophages, spleen cells and natural killer (NK) cells. We showed increasing effects on nitric oxide-inducible nitric oxide synthase (NO-iNOS) production by macrophages and no effects of NK tumoricidal activity and suppressive effects on spleen cell proliferation in exercise group. However, EBE supplementation suppressed NO-iNOS production by macrophages and increased NK tumoricidal activity and spleen cell proliferative response to mitogen in exercise group. Overall, these results that EBE supplementation has differential effects on innate immune response and could be useful as sports nutrition.
The aim of this study was to optimize the manufacturing condition of spreadable modified butter by RSM. Based on the central composite design, the degree of optimization was expressed as a SFC as a dependent variable (Y, %) determined by NMR with 23 experimental groups. Three independent variables were the contents of butter ($X_1$, 35-75%), the contents of grape seed oil ($X_2$, 15-35%), and the contents of hydrogenated soybean oil ($X_3$, 0-4%). As the result, SFC at $10^{\circ}C$ was ranged from 32.37 to 42.76%. In addition, the regression coefficients were calculated for SFC at $10^{\circ}C$ by RSREG. The regression model equation for the SFC was $Y=39.18-0.04X_1X_3$. Consequently, the optimal contents for manufacturing spreadable modified butter were determined as 55.18% for butter, 40.78% for grape seed oil, and 4.08% for hydrogenated soybean oil, respectively. The predicted response value for SFC at $10^{\circ}C$ was 30.20%, comparable to the actual experimental SFC value as 29.85%. Finally hardness and spreadability in reference butter and spreadable modified butter produced under the optimal conditions was measured. The hardness in spreadable modified butter was 31.80 N as compared to 69.92 N in reference butter. The spreadability in spreadable modified butter was 5.6 point as compared to reference butter. This difference may be due to the contents of solid fat by butter and hydrogenated soybean oil. This study showed that the SFC value at $10^{\circ}C$ could be a suitable indicator for the manufacturing spreadable modified butter to predict important attributes such as mouth feel, hardness and spreadability.

Using the 2 probe mothods, AC coductivities, dielectric loss factors, capacitances, and impedances were investigated to study. The electrical and sensing properties for SnO$_2$ added ZnO. In air The electrical conductivity of SnO$_2$added ZnO decrease by increasing the content of SnO$_2$, and the relative dielectric constants for 0.05, 5, 7 SnO$_2$ added ZnO are 55, 20, 14, respectively. In 3000ppm CO Gas. relative dielectric constants for 3, 5mol% SnO$_2$ added ZnO are 163, 68, respectively.
Two comparative poplar clones (I-214: Populus euramerinm, Peace: P koreana x p. trihocarpa) were exposed to two $CO_2$ concentrations (350 or 2, 000 ${\mu}L L^{-1} CO_2$) for 21 days. When both poplar clones were compared at growth conditions, the net photosynthetic rate ($P_N$) in $CO_2$-enriched ($2, 000{\mu}L L^{-1} CO_2 = C_{2, 000}$) plants become about 50-60% higher than that of 350 ${\mu}L L^{-1} CO_2 (=C_{350}$ Plants on 7 days treatment. But the enhancement of PN by high $CO_2$ was not maintained throughout all the experimental period. At 21 days, there was no difference of photosynthetic rates between $C_{350}$ and $C_{2000}$ plants. In contrast with photosynthesis, the response of leaf conductance to the elevated $CO_2$ concentration was very different between I-214 and Peace. During all experimental period, leaf conductance ($g_{s}$) of $C_{2000}$ plants is 50% lower than that of the $C_{350}$ plants for I-214, while there is no difference of gs between the plants of $C_{350}$ and $C_{2, 000}$ for Peace. The results of gs in Peace indicate that decreased photosynthetic rate after 21 days in $C_{2, 000}$ Plants for two poplar clones is possibly due to non-stomatal factors. To investigate the non-stomatal factors, starch accumulation and ribulose-1, 6-bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPCase) were measured. We found significant accumulation of starch in two poplar clones exposed to high $CO_2$, especially starch of I-214 in $C_{2, 000}$ become 3.5 times higher than in $C_{350}$ plants at 21 days. This suggests that high proportion of photosynthates was directed into starch. After 21 days, the activity of ribulose-1, 6-bisphosphate carboxylase of $C_{2, 000}$ plants become decreased in 40-50% compared with that of the $C_{350}$ plants. Two poplar clones show the same trend to RuBPCase declines under high $CO_2$ concentration, although the decline is more significant for I-214. The results reported here suggest that starch accumulation and decreased RuBPCase activity in $C_{2, 000}$ plants can be partly ascribed to the loss of photosynthetic efficiency of high $CO_2$-grown poplar plants.

RGS proteins have been identified as negative regulators of G protein signalling pathways and attenuate the activity of GPCR receptors. However, information on the regulatory effects of RGS proteins in the activity of cannabinoid receptors is limited. In this study, the role of RGS proteins on the signal transduction of the CB2 cannabinoid receptor was investigated in HEK293 cells co-transfected with CB2-receptors and plasmids encoding RGS2, RGS3, RGS4 and RGS5. Treatment of cells with WIN55, 212-2, a CB2 receptor agonist, inhibited forskolin-induced cAMP response element (CRE) activity in CB2-transfected HEK293 (CB2-HEK293) cells. This inhibitory effect of WIN 55, 212-2 on CRE activity was reversed by co-transfection of CB2-HEK293 cells with RGS3, but not with RGS2, RGS4 and RGS5. However, endogenous RGS3 protein knocked down by a small interfering siRNA targeting RGS3 gene enhanced inhibition of forskolin induced CRE activity via agonist induced CB2 receptor signal transduction. These results indicate the functional role of endogenous RGS protein in cannabinoid signaling pathways and define receptor-selective roles of endogenous RGS3 in modulating CRE transcriptional responses to agonist induced CB2 receptor activity.
The objective of this study was to determine output power for skin incision in 0.3 mm spot diameter $CO_2$ laser by measuring (1) the wound depth, (2) initial dermal tissue damage, (3) degree of wound healing at different power (4W, 5W and 6W) in beagle dogs. Three healthy 2-year-old beagle dogs were used. Four 2 cm straight skin incisions were made with 0.3 mm spot diameter $CO_2$ laser on the each dog's both side of dorsal midline in three beagle dogs. The skin incisions were performed for $10{\sim}15$ seconds for same dosage. And then each wound was closed with surgical stapler. At 0, 3, 7 and 14 days after initial wounding, each wound was taken for histological observation. On macroscopic and microscopic observation, initial incisional wound did not show difference in three group. And also re-epithelialization, dermal tissue damage and inflammatory response did not show significant difference among groups. This study reveals that 4W, 5W and 6W may be suitable output power in 0.3 mm spot diameter $CO_2$ laser for the skin incision in beagle dogs.

The effects of $CO_2$ enrichment on growth of rice (Oryza sativa L.) were examined. The plants were grown in growth chambers with a 12-h photoperiod and a day/night temperature of $28/21^{\circ}C$ of the seedling stage and $30/23^{\circ}C$ after the panicle initiation stage. The plants were exposed to two elevated $CO_2$ of 500, 700 ppm and ambient levels (350 ppm). At early growth stage of three varieties (IIpumbyeo, Chucheongbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo), the elevated $CO_2$ increased plant height, tiller, leaf area and dry weight. The photosynthetic rate was decreased at 24 days after treatment (DAT) compared to 11 DAT. The elevated $CO_2$ increased plant height and dry weight at panicle initiation stage (PIS) and heading stage (HS) of three varieties (IIpumbyeo, Chucheongbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo). The photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, evapotranspiration rate were decreased at the long days of treatment than that of short days. At entire stages, the elevated $CO_2$ increased the water use efficiency of rice plant because evapotranspiration rate was lowered at the elevated $CO_2$ than ambient levels.
