위성 ATM 망에서 압축된 비디오 트래픽의 ABR 서비스에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Compressed Video Traffic over ABR on Satellite ATM Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 위상 ATM 네트워크에서 장거리 의존성(Long-Range Dependent) VBR 트래픽이 존재할 경우에 있어서 ABR 서비스를 통한 비디오 트래픽의 성능에 대하여 고찰하였다. 인터넷을 이용하는 트래픽 중 압축/부호화된 비디오 트래픽이 급증하고 있는 가운데 제한된 네트워크 자원을 이용하여 이러한 비디오 트래픽들의 효과적인 전송을 위한 연구가 다각적으로 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 ATM 네트워크에서 ABR 서비스를 이용한 비디오 서비스 전송에 대해, 특별히 갈수록 무선 통신을 이용한 서비스가 확산되고 있는 것을 고려하여 위성 ATM 네트워크 환경에서 여러 문제점들을 고찰하였다. ATM 포럼에서 제정된 서비스들 중에 비디오 트래픽 전송을 위해 CBR 혹은 VBR 서비스가 있지만, 데이터 서비스를 우선으로 하는 ABR 서비스는 약간의 대역폭, 즉 최소셀율 (Minimum Cell Rate: MCR) 만으로도 연결이 설정되며, 특히 피드백 매커니즘을 이용하여 소스의 데이터 전송률을 조절할 수 있으므로 네트워크의 부하에 따라 비디오 서비스의 질을 조절할 수 있는 응용에서는 커다란 장점을 가지게 된다. 본 논문에서 사용된 장거리 의존성 VBR 트래픽으로? 압축된 비디오 소스가 사용되었다. 이 압축된 비디오 소스는 MPEG-2 전송 스트림과 유사하도록 모델링 되어 진다. MPEG-2 압축된 비디오 트래픽 스트림은 다른 비트률을 갖는 세 개의 다른 종류의 프레임 즉, I-프레임, P-프레임, B-프레임으로 구성된다. 따라서 네트워크가 혼잡 상태일 경우에는 위와 같은 MPEG 비디오 스트림의 특성을 이용하여 송신측의 셀 전송을 조절하여 서비스의 질을 조절함으로 미연에 셀 손실을 막는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 우선 순위가 높고 사용 대역폭에서의 높은 변이를 가진 VBR 트래픽으로 인하여 TCP 트래픽을 전송하는 ABR 트래픽들이 사용할 수 있는 대역폭의 용량변이가 매우 높다. 따라서 요구되는 서비스의 질(QoS: Quality of Service)을 만족하기 위하여 스위치에서 많은 버퍼가 필요하다. 더욱이 피드백 지연이 큰 위성 ATM 네트워크에서는 지연에 비례하는 만큼의 버퍼를 필요로 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 변이가 심한 VBR 트래픽이 존재할 경우에 스위치에서 ABR 트래픽을 위해 필요한 버퍼에 대하여 EFCI와 ER 스위치(ERICA+)와 같이 서로 다른 구조를 가진 ABR 스위치들 간의 비교 뿐 아니라 VBR 트래픽이 ON-OFF 인 경우 痼?비교도 이루어진다.

초고속 인터넷 접속망에서 보장형 서비스 제공을 위한 경계 노드의 스케줄링 알고리즘 설계 및 성능 분석 (Design and Performance Evaluation of a Scheduling Algorithm for Edge Node supporting Assured Service in High-speed Internet Access Networks)

  • 최근 초고속 인터넷 접속 서비스에 대한 가입자의 욕구는 단순 인터넷 접속 서비스에서 개인화된 서비스로 변화하고 있다. 초고속 인터넷 접속 서비스 제공 사업자 또한 가입자에게 좀 더 고속의 서비스를 제공하기 위해 ADSL에서 메트로 이더넷 기반의 VDSL로 대체하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 메트로 이더넷 기반의 초고속 인터넷 접속망에 이미 설치된 장비들은 트래픽 특성에 따라 가입자를 구별할 수 없어 개인별로 차별화된 서비스를 제공하는 것은 곤란한 실정이다. 이 논문에서는 접속망이 트리 구조일 경우, 접속망 요소들이 Qos 기능을 제공하지 않아도 경계 노드의 플로우별 트래적 쉐이핑으로 특정 하향 플로우에 대하여 Qos를 제공할 수 있음을 보였다. 본 논문에서는 이를 보이기 위해 트러 구조의 접속망에서 보장형 서비스를 제공하기 위한 경제 노드의 스케줄링 알고리즘을 설계하고, 이것의 성능을 분석하였다. 이 스케줄링 알고리즘은 최대 허용 대역폭으로 각 플로우를 쉐이핑하고, 플로우의 SLA에 따라 최소 대역폭을 보장하도록 DRR을 개량하여 설계되었다. 설계된 알고리즘의 성능을 분석하기 위해 다양한 시뮬레이션을 수행하여, 경계 노드에서의 플로우별 트래픽 쉐이핑에 의해 접속망에서의 혼잡 및 손실이 줄어들고, TCP 트래픽 플로우의 성능이 크게 향상되며, CBR 보장형 서비스에 대한 손실의 큰 감소와 더불어 지연 및 지터 특성이 향상되었음을 보였다.

Health Economics Evaluation of a Gastric Cancer Early Detection and Treatment Program in China

  • Objective: To use health economics methodology to assess the screening program on gastric cancer in Zhuanghe, China, so as to provide the basis for health decision on expanding the program of early detection and treatment. Materials and Methods: The expense of an early detection and treatment program for gastric cancer in patients found by screening, and also costs of traditional treatment in a hospital of Zhuanghe were assessed. Three major techniques of medical economics, namely cost-effective analysis (CEA), cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and cost-utility analysis (CUA), were used to assess the screening program. Results: Results from CEA showed that investing every 25, 235 Yuan on screening program in Zhuanghe area, one gastric cancer patient could be saved. Data from CUA showed that it was cost 1, 370 Yuan per QALY saved. Results from CBA showed that: the total cost was 1,945,206 Yuan with a benefit as 8,669,709 Yuan and an CBR of 4.46. Conclusions: The early detection and treatment program of gastric cancer appears economic and society-beneficial. We suggest that it should be carry out in more high risk areas for gastric cancer.

화강암질 풍화토의 시멘트에 의한 안정처리에 관한 연구 (내구성을 중심으로) (The Study on Portland Cement Stabilization on the Weathered Granite Soils (on the Durability))

  • Soil-cement mixtures involve problems in it's durability in grain size distribution and mineral composition of the used soils as well as in cement content, compaction energy, molding water content, and curing. As an attempt to solve the problems associated with durability of weathered granite soil with cement treated was investigated by conducting tests such as unconfined compression test, it's moisture, immers, wet-dry and freeze-thaw curing, mesurement of loss of weight with wet-dry and freeze-thaw by KS F criteria and CBR test with moisture curing on the five soil samples different in weathering and mineral composition. The experimental results are summarized as follows; The unconfined compressive strength was higher in moisture curing rather than in the immers and wet-dry, while it was lowest in freeze-thaw. Decreasing ratio of unconfined compressive strength in soil-cement mixtures were lowest in optimum moisture content or in the dry side rather than optimum moisture content with freeze-thaw. The highly significant ceofficient was obtained between the cement content and loss of weight with freeze-thaw and wet-dry. It was possible to obtain the durability of soil-cement mixtures, as the materials of base for roads, containing above 4 % of cement content, above 3Okg/cm$_2$ of unconfined compressive trength with seven days moisture curing or 12 cycle of freeze-thaw after it, above 100% of relative unconfined compressive strength, 80% of index of resistance, below 14% of loss of weight with 12 cycle of wet-dry and above 1. 80g/cm$_2$ of dry density.

항공작전의 장애요인에 관한 탐색적 연구 (Exploratory Research on the Obstacle Factors of Aircraft Operations)

  • 현재 항공작전은 작전에 영향을 미치는 각종 장애요인들을 고려하지 않고 있다. 보다 효율적인 항공전력운용을 위해서 이들 장애요인들을 예상하고 대비한다면 좀 더 실질적인 항공작전 계획수립에 도움이 될 것이다. 본 연구는 이들 장애요인들이 항공전력 산출에 미치는 영향을 파악하여 항공작전 임무수행 능력, 가용전력 파악을 통해 효과적인 진력 운용에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 시뮬레이션 분석 도구인 AREA 10.0을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 항공전력 산출의 장애요인을 기상, 화생방 상황, 항공기 고장, 적 교전 손실의 4가지로 한정하여 분석하였다. 또한 민감도 분석을 통해 전천후 부장 사용 및 화생방 상황 증가에 따른 전력 산출의 변화를 분석하여 전시 항공작전 장애요인이 전력산출에 끼치는 영향에 대해서 연구하였다.

Performance Analysis of an ATM MUX with a New Space Priority Mechanism under ON-OFF Arrival Processes

  • We propose a new space priority mechanism, and analyze its performance in a single Constant Bit Rate (CBR) server. The arrival process is derived from the superposition of two types of traffics, each in turn results from the superposition of homogeneous ON-OFF sources that can be approximated by means of a two-state Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). The buffer mechanism enables the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) layer to adapt the quality of the cell transfer to the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and to improve the utilization of network resources. This is achieved by "Selective-Delaying and Pushing-ln"(SDPI) cells according to the class they belong to. The scheme is applicable to schedule delay-tolerant non-real time traffic and delay-sensitive real time traffic. Analytical expressions for various performance parameters and numerical results are obtained. Simulation results in term of cell loss probability conform with our numerical analysis.

  • China's population and family planning program has heen successful. Women's fertility as measured by total fertility rate (TFR) has declined from 5.8 in 1970 to 2.3 in 1990, accordingly the annual crude birth rate(CBR) has declined from 34 per thousand in 1970 to 21 per thousand in 1989, and the annual natural growth rate from 2.6 percent in 1970 to 1.4 percent in 1989 (Coale and Chen, 1987; SSB, 1991; Gu, 1994). While this is indeed an astonishing achievement for a developing country to have its fertility down to replacement within a short period, some new issues emerging along with the rapid fertility decline require careful considerations. One of them is the uprising of the sex ratio at birth in China. The 1990 population census reported the sex ratio at birth in China of 113.8 in 1989, which is ohviously much higher than the acceptable level of normal ratio around 106. It has received since then a lot of tention in China and abroad, among demographic professionals and governmental agencies alike (Hull, 1990; Johansson and Nygren, 1991; Xuand Guo, 1991; Tu, 1993; Gu and Xu, 1994; among others). Based on the available demographic data and research results this paper will first have a review of the patterns and trends of sex ratio at birth in China, then turn to the immediate causes of abnormal sex ratio at birth and the determinants of the son preference, followed with a conceptual framework for understanding of the phenomenon, and finally the policy implications and recommendations will be discussed.

Study properties of soft subgrade soil stabilized by sewage sludge/lime and nano-SiO2

  • The pozzolanic characteristics of a sludge incinerated into ash were determined in this study. Lime is commonly used as a stabilizer for the treatment of soils, whereas sewage sludge ash (SSA) is often applied with lime to improve soft subgrade soil. In this study, a cohesive soil categorized as A-4 (low-plasticity clay) by AASHTO classifications was mixed with SSA/lime with a 3:1 ratio. Nano-$SiO_2$ was also added to the soil. To identify changes in the workability, strength, permeability, and shear strength of the soft subgrade soil, basic soil tests were conducted, and the microstructure of the treated soil was analyzed. The results indicate that SSA/lime mixtures improve the properties of soft subgrade soil and transform the soil from "poor subgrade soil" to "good to excellent subgrade soil" with a CBR > 8. Additionally, the addition of 2% nano-$SiO_2$ increases the unconfined compressive strength of soft subgrade soil treated with SSA/lime mixture by approximately 17 kPa. However, the swelling of the treated soil increased by approximately 0.1% after the addition of nano-$SiO_2$ and lime. Thus, soil swelling should be considered before lime and nano-$SiO_2$ are applied to soft subgrade soil.

Improvement in engineering properties of subgrade soil due to stabilization and its effect on pavement response

  • This paper presents laboratory investigation of stabilization of subgrade soil. One type of soil and three types of stabilizers i.e., hydrated lime, class F fly ash and polypropylene fibres are selected in the study. Atterberg limit, compaction, california bearing ratio (CBR), unconfined compressive strength and triaxial shear strength tests are conducted on unstabilized and stabilized soil for varying percentage of stabilizers to analyze the effect of stabilizers on the properties of soil. Vertical compressive strains at the top of unstabilized and stabilized subgrade soil were found out by elasto-plastic finite element analysis using commercial software ANSYS. Strategy for design of optimum pavement section was based on extension in service life (TBR) and reduction in layer thickness (LTR). Extension in service life of stabilized subgrade soil is 6.49, 4.37 and 3.26 times more due to lime, fly ash and fibre stabilization respectively. For a given service life of the pavement, there is considerable reduction in layer thicknesses due to stabilization. It helps in reduction in construction cost of pavement and saving in natural resources as well.

Circuit-Switched “Network Capacity” under QoS Constraints

  • Usually the network-throughput maximization problem for constant-bit-rate (CBR) circuit-switched traffic is posed for a fixed offered load profile. Then choices of routes and of admission control policies are sought to achieve maximum throughput (usually under QoS constraints). However, similarly to the notion of channel “capacity,” it is also of interest to determine the “network capacity;” i.e., for a given network we would like to know the maximum throughput it can deliver (again subject to specified QoS constraints) if the appropriate traffic load is supplied. Thus, in addition to determining routes and admission controls, we would like to specify the vector of offered loads between each source/destination pair that “achieves capacity.” Since the combined problem of choosing all three parameters (i.e., offered load, admission control, and routing) is too complex to address, we consider here only the optimal determination of offered load for given routing and admission control policies. We provide an off-line algorithm, which is based on Lagrangian techniques that perform robustly in this rigorously formulated nonlinear optimization problem with nonlinear constraints. We demonstrate that significant improvement is obtained, as compared with simple uniform loading schemes, and that fairness mechanisms can be incorporated with little loss in overall throughput.
