Medicinal herbs are significant source of synthetic and herbal drugs. In the commercial market, medicinal herbs are used as raw drugs, extracts or tinctures. Isolated active constituents are used for applied research. For the last few decades, phytochemistry (study of plants) has been making rapid progress and herbal products are becoming popular. According to Ayurveda, the ancient healing system of India, the classical texts of Ayurveda, Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita were written around 1000 B.C. The Ayurvedic Materia Medica includes 600 medicinal plants along with therapeutics. Herbs like turmeric, fenugreek, ginger, garlic and holy basil are integral part of Ayurvedic formulations. The formulations incorporate single herb or more than two herbs (poly-herbal formulations). Medicinal herb contains multitude of chemical compounds like alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, resins, oleoresins, sesquiterpene, lactones and oils (essential and fixed). Today there is growing interest in chemical composition of plant based medicines. Several bioactive constituents have been isolated and studied for pharmacological activity. R. cordifolia is an important medicinal plant commonly used in the traditional and Ayurvedic system of medicine for treatment of different ailments. This review illustrates its major constituents, pharmacological actions substantiating the claims made about this plant in the traditional system of medicine and its clinical applications.
Nine tubes with trapezoidal integral-fins having fin densities from 748 to 1654fpm and 10,30 grooves and finned tubes with caves of 0.55 and 0.64mm height respectively are tested. A plain tube having same diameter as the finned tubes is also tested for comparison. In case of condensation CFC-11 condensates at saturation state of 32$^{\circ}C$ on the outside surface cooled by inside cooling water flows. And in case of boiling the refrigerant evaporates at a saturation state of 1bar on the outside tube surface and heat is supplied by hot water which circulates inside of the tube. The tube having fin density of 1299fpm and 30grooves has the best condensation overall heat transfer coefficient. However, as far as boiling heat transfer coefficient concerns, fin tubes with cave show higher value than low fin tube having fin density of 1299fpm and 30 grooves.
Wave propagation in a three-dimensional (3D) fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) is studied based on velocity potential theory. The governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving free surface is solved using the indirect desingularized boundary integral equation method (DBIEM). The fourth-order predictor-corrector Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme (ABM4) and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method are used for the time-stepping integration of the free surface boundary conditions. A smoothing algorithm, B-spline, is applied to eliminate the possible saw-tooth instabilities. The artificial wave speed employed in MTF (multi-transmitting formula) approach is investigated for fully nonlinear wave problem. The numerical results from incorporating the damping zone (DZ), MTF and MTF coupled DZ (MTF+DZ) methods as radiation condition are compared with analytical solution. An effective MTF+DZ method is finally adopted to simulate the 3D linear wave, second-order wave and irregular wave propagation. It is shown that the MTF+DZ method can be used for simulating fully nonlinear wave propagation very efficiently.
The T-50 advanced trainer aircraft combines advanced aerodynamic features and a fly-by-wire flight control system in order to produce a stability and highly maneuverability. The flight control system both longitudinal and lateral-directional axes to achieve performance enhancements and improve stability. The T-50 employs the RSS concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance in longitudinal axis and the longitudinal control laws employ the dynamic inversion with proportional-plus-integral control method. And, lateral-directional control laws employ the blended roll system both beta-betadot feedback and simple roll rate feedback with proportional control method in order to guarantee aircraft stability. This paper details the design process of developing lateral-directional control laws, utilizing the requirement of MIL-F-8785C and MIL-F-9490D. And, this paper propose the analysis of aircraft characteristics such as dutch-roll mode, roll mode, spiral mode, gain and phase margin about gains for lateral-directional inner loop feedback.
This paper presents an application of layered Artificial Neural Network controller to study load frequency control problem in power system. The objective of control scheme guarantees that steady state error of frequencies and inadvertent interchange of tie-lines are maintained in a given tolerance limitation. The proposed controller has been designed for a two-area interconnected power system. Only one artificial neural network controller (ANN), which controls the inputs of each area in the power system together, is considered. In this study, back propagation-through time algorithm is used as neural network learning rule. The performance of the power system is simulated by using conventional integral controller and ANN controller, separately. For the first time comparative study has been carried out between SMES and CES unit, all of the areas are included with SMES and CES unit separately. By comparing the results for both cases, the performance of ANN controller with CES unit is found to be better than conventional controllers with SMES, CES and ANN with SMES.
This study examined how the fracture toughness is affected according to the variation of the initial crack length and the fiber arranged angle using FEA method and experimental method. Therefore, the energy release rates were calculated and compared by J-integral method and VCCT(Virtual Crack Closure Technique). The results of fracture toughness test verified these results. At this time, the locus method was used in order to determine the energy release rate. When the results of FEA were compared with those of experiment, all of those decreased with the increase of angle between load and the fiber arranged direction. The decrease was due to reducing maximum load and stiffness, and the reason of reduction has been judged that the inplane shear stress.
It is important to accurately predict the temperature and density distributions in large stratified enclosures both for design optimization and accident analysis. Current reactor system analysis codes only provide lumped-volume based models that can give very approximate results. Previous scaling analysis has shown that stratified mixing processes in large stably stratified enclosures can be described using one-dimensional differential equations, with the vertical transport by jets modeled using integral techniques. This allows very large reductions in computational effort compared to three-dimensional CFD simulation. The BMIX++ (Berkeley mechanistic MIXing code in C++) code was developed to implement such ideas. This paper summarizes major models for the BMIX++ code, presents the two-plume mixing experiment simulation as one validation example, and describes the codes' application to the liquid salt buffer pool system in the AHTR (Advanced High Temperature Reactor) design. Three design options have been simulated and they exhibit significantly different stratification patterns. One of design options shows the mildest thermal stratification and is identified as the best design option. This application shows that the BMIX++ code has capability to provide the reactor designers with insights to understand complex mixing behavior with mechanistic methods. Similar analysis is possible for liquid-metal cooled reactors.
This paper deals with the micro-surface-cracks behavior on the unnotched smooth specimens of Type 304 stainless steel at $593^{\circ}C$ in air under creep and creep-fatigue conditions that have 10 mim and 1 min load holding times respectively. The behaviors of the micro-surface-cracks have been visualized by means of surface replica method and optical micro-photography. The quantitative characteristics of initiation, growth and coalescence of micro-surface-cracks have been investigated by observing and measuring the crack growth behaviors. some of the important results are as follows: Main crack initiates at grain boundary in the early stage(10 to 20%)of its life time and grows through coalescence and finally leads to fracture. The distribution of micro-surface-crack length, 2a, can be plotted against the composite Weibull distribution. The growth rate of the main crack can be plotted against the stress intensity factor, crack tip opering displacement and J integral.
An improved stationary frame-based digital current control technique for a permanent magnet(PM) synchronous motor is presented. Generally, the stationary frame current controller is known to provide the advantage of a simple implementation. However, there are some unavoidable limitations such as a steady-state error and a phase delay in the steady-state. On the other hand, in the synchronous frame current regulator the regulated currents are dc quantities and a zero steady-state error can be obtained through the integral control. However, the need to transform the signals between the stationary and synchronous frames makes the implementation of a synchronous frame regulator complex. Although the PI controller in the stationary frame gives a steady-state error and a phase delay, the control performance can be greatly improved by employing the exact decoupling control inputs for the back EMF., resulting in an ideal steady-state control characteristics irrespective of an operating condition as in the synchronous PI decoupling controller. However, its steady-state response may be degraded due to the inexact cancellation inputs under the parameter variations. To improve the control performance in the stationary frame, the disturbance is estimated using the time delay control. The proposed scheme is implemented on a PM synchronous motor using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simulations and experiments.
