2 상 Ti3Al-xNb 계 금속간 화합물들의 초소성 특성에 미치는 상분율의 영향 (Effects of α2/β Volume Fraction on the Superplastic Deformation)

  • A study has been made to investigate the boundary sliding and its accommodation mode with respect to the variation of $\alpha$$_2$/$eta$ volume fraction during superplastic deformation of two-phase Ti$_3$Al-xNb intermetallics. Step strain rate and load relaxation tests have been performed at 950, 970 and 99$0^{\circ}C$ to obtain the flow stress curves and to analyze the deformation characteristics by the theory of inelastic deformation. The results show that the grain matrix deformation and boundary sliding of the three intermetallics containing 21, 50 and 77% in $eta$ volume fractions are well described by the plastic deformation and viscous flow equations. Due to the equal accommodation of both $a^2$ and $\beta$ phases, the accommodation modes for fine-grained materials are in good agreement with the iso-strain rate models. The sliding resistance analyzed for the different boundaries is the lowest in the $\alpha$$_2$/$\alpha$$_2$ boundary, and increases in the order of $\alpha$$_2$/$\alpha$$_2$<< $\alpha$$_2$/$\beta$ = $\beta$/$\beta$, which plays an important role in controlling the superplasticity of the alloys with the various $\alpha$$_2$/$\beta$ phase ratio.

국내에 분포하는 화산암류중 금의 분포특징에 관한 연구 (Distribution Characteristics of Gold in the Volcanic Rocks, Korea)

  • One hundred of thirty volcanic rocks col1ected from the Jeju island, Jeongog, Guryongpo and other areas were analyzed for major elements and trace elements with Au by inductively coupled argon plasma and graphite furnace atomic absorptiom spectrometry. The Au content is the highest values (0.2~43.4 ppb, average; 10.34 ppb) from the Jeju island volcanic rocks and the lowest (0.5~11.0 ppb, average; 1.23 ppb) from the Guryongpo volcanic area. The content of Au tends to be higher in the Quarternary volcanic rocks than Tertiary or Cretaceous volcanic rocks. The Au content of the calc alkali volcanic rocks tends to increase from mafic to felsic volcanic rocks, but that of the alkalic volcanic rocks tends to increase from felsic to mafic volcanic rocks. The Au content of the volcanic rocks collected from the Jeju island shows the highest values in the feldspar olivine basalts. Elements or oxides which have positive or negative correlations with Au are Ag, Mo, Rb, V, Y, $K_2O$, MgO and $SiO_2$, but other elements analyzed are not shown correlations with Au. It has a tendency to show that samples from the Jeju with 5 ppb gold and more are plotted in the non-Dupal area and those with less than 5 ppb gold in the Dupal area, while those from the Jeongog with 5 ppb gold and more are plotted in the Dupal area and those with less than 5 ppb gold in the non-Dupal area, in the Ba/Nb-La/Nb, Zr/Nb-Ba/Nb diagrams. It shows that samples from the Jeju and Guryongpo with high gold content are plotted in the within-plate, while those with low gold content are plotted in the arc-related area, and those from the Jeongog are scattered in the $TiO_2-Al_2O_3$, $Zr/A1_2O_3-TiO_2/Al_2O_3$ diagrams.

  • The stability of superconducting wires was studied by considering temperature and magnetic field. We measured critical current density of $Nb_3Sn$ tape at 4.2 K, 12 K, 13 K and 14 K in various field. The critical current density at 4.2 K, 6 T is 16.5 times higher than at 12 K, 6 T. We expressed the critical current density as a function of temperature and magnetic field, expanding on work by Hampshire, et al.

금속소부도재관용 Ni-Cr 합금에 첨가된 Nb이 계면특성에 미치는 영향 (A study on interfacial characteristics of Ni-Cr alloy by Nb content for Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown)

  • The effect of Nb on interfacial bonding characteristics of Ni-Cr alloy for porcelain fused to metal crown (PFM) has been studied in order to investigate oxide layer. A specimens, which is 0.8mm in thickness, were fired at 1,000$^{\circ}C$ with four tests such as air, vacuum, air for 5 minutes and vacuum for 5 minutes in order to examine an oxide behavior of alloy surface generated by the adding of Nb to be controlled at a rate of 0, 1, 3 and 5. It observed oxide film form of the fired specimens with optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM), and chemical formation of them with energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The other specimens, which is 2mm in thickness, were fired at 1,000$^{\circ}C$ with air and vacuum in order to analyze the diffusion behaviors of alloy-porcelain interface by X-ray dot mapping. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The observation of microstructure of specimens by SEM showed that the more Nb content is high, the more much intermediate compound of rich Nb is observed. 2. The surface morphology of oxide film is most dense in 3% Nb. The heat treatment in air constitutes denser oxide film than heat treatment under vacuum. 3. The diffusion behavior of oxide layer by X-ray dot mapping showed that Si, Al of porcelain diffuse toward metal.

  • [ $MoSi_2$ ] alloys with Al, B or Nb were prepared by an advanced consolidation process that combined mechanical alloying with pulse discharge sintering (complex forming) to improve the mechanical properties. Their microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. The $MoSi_2$ alloys fabricated by complex forming method showed very fine microstructure when compared with the sample sintered from commercial $MoSi_2$ powders. Alloys made from powders milled in Ar gas had fewer silica or alumina phases as compared to their counterparts sintered from powders milled in air. In densification of the sintered body, addition of B was more effective than Al or Nb. Both Victors hardness and tensile test indicated that the alloy fabricated by the complex forming method showed better properties than the sample sintered from commercial $MoSi_2$ powders. The Al added alloy sintered from the powders milled in air had the superior mechanical properties due to the suppression of $SiO_2$ and formation of fine $Al_2O_3$ particles.

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ti-35Nb-7Zr-XCPP Biomaterials Fabricated by Rapid Sintering

  • Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitial) alloy have been widely used as alternative to bone due to its excellent biocompatibility, although it still has many problems such as high elastic modulus and toxicity. Therefore, biomaterials with low elastic modulus and non toxic characteristics have to be developed. A novel ${\beta}$ Ti-35wt%Nb-7wt%Zr-Calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) composite that is a biocompatible alloy without elemental Al or V was fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at $1000^{\circ}C$ under 70 MPa using high energy mechanical milled (HEMM) powder. The microstructure and phases of the milled powders and the sintered specimens were studied using SEM, TEM, and XRD. Ti-35wt%Nb-7wt%Zr alloy was transformed from ${\alpha}$ phase to ${\beta}$ phase in the 4h-milled powder by sintering. The sintered specimen using the 4h-milled powder showed that all the elements were distributed very homogeneously and had higher density and hardness. ${\beta}$ Ti alloy-CPP composite, which has nanometer particles, was fabricated by SPS using HEMMed powder. During the sintering process, $CaTiO_3$, TixOy, and CaO were formed because of the reaction between Ti and CPP. The Vickers hardness of the composites increases with the increase of the milling time and the addition of CPP. The biocompatibility of the Ti-Nb-Zr alloys was improved by addition of CPP.

열수처리 시간에 따른 Ti-6Al-7Nh 합금의 생체활성 평가 (Evaluation of Bioactivity of Ti-6Al-7Nb Alloys with Various Hydrothermal Treatment Times)

  • This study was to investigate whether the bioactivity of the anodized and hydrothermally treated Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy were affected by the time of hydrothermal treatment. Anodizing was performed at current density 30 $mA/cm^2$ up to 300 V in electrolyte solutions containing $DL-{\alpha}-glycerophosphate$ disodium salt hydrate $(DL-{\alpha}-GP)$ and calcium acetate (CA). Hydrothermal treatment was done at $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 4 hrs to produce a thin film layer of hydroxyapatite (HA). The bioactivity was evaluated from HA formation on the surfaces in a Hanks' solution with pH 7.4 at $36.5^{\circ}C$ for 10, 20, and 30 days. Anodic oxide films were porous with pore size of $1\sim4{\mu}m\;and\;3\sim4{\mu}m$ thickness. The anodic oxide films composed with strong anatase peak with presence of rutile peak, and showed the increase in intensity of anatase peak after hydrothermal treatment. It was shown that the intensity of anatase peak increased with increasing the time of hydrothermal treatment but was no difference in rutile peak. The corrosion voltage was the highest in the group of hydrothermal treatment for 2 hrs (Ecorr: -338.6 mV). The bioactivity in Hank's solution was accelerated with increasing the time of hydrothermal treatment.

스파크플라즈마 소결에 의한 Ti-Nb-Zr-Mo-CPP 생체복합재의 기계적 성질 및 생체적합성 (Mechanical Properties and Biocompatibility of Ti-Nb-Zr-Mo-CPP Biomaterial Fabricated by Spark Plasma Sintering)

  • The Ti-6Al-4V extra low interstitial (ELI) alloy has been widely used as an orthopedic implant material because of its excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility. However, it still has many problems, including a high elastic modulus and toxicity of the Al and V elements. Therefore, non-toxic biomaterials with a low elastic modulus need to be developed. A high energy mechanical milling (HEMM) process is introduced to improve the effect of sintering. Rapid sintering of spark plasma sintering (SPS) under pressure was used to make an ultra fine grain of Ti-25 wt.%Nb-7 wt.%Zr-10 wt.%Mo-(10 wt.%CPP) composites with bio-attractive elements for increasing strength. These composites were fabricated by SPS at $1000^{\circ}C$ at 60 MPa using HEMM powders. During the sintering process, $CaTiO_3$, TixOy, and CaO were formed because of the reaction between Ti and CPP. The effects of CPP content on the physical and mechanical properties of the sintered Ti-Nb-Zr-Mo-CPP composites were investigated. The biocompatibility and corrosion resistance of the Ti-Nb-Zr-Mo alloys were improved by the addition of CPP.

밀리미터파 믹서용 초전도 턴넬 접합 설계와 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fabrication and Design of Superconducting Tunnel junction for Millimeter Wave Mixers)

  • Because of their high sensitivity and moderate bandwidth, superconducting receivers with SIS (Superconductor Insulator Superconductor) tunnel junction mixer are now widely used for millimeter wave radio astronomy. In this paper we have introduced how to determine the parameters of SIS tunnel junction which have to be optimized to achieve a good mixer performance. From these results of optimized junction parameters determined by this methods, SIS junctions which consist of a series array of four Nb/Al-AlOx/Nb junctions with each area 3.4${\mu}m^{2}$ have been fabricated by SNEP (Selective Niobium Etching Process) and RIE (Reactive Ion Eching). Also we have tested their DC current-voltage characteristics. These SIS junctions will be used as a mixer for 100GHz band cosmic waves receiver.

고온용 신소재 금속간화합물의 현황과 전망 (Prospects and Status of Intermetallic Compounds for High Temperature Applications)

  • 구조용 고온재료로서 표 2에 나타내듯이 지금까지 니켈과 티타늄 알루미나이드($Ni_3Al$, NiAl, $Ti_3Al$, TiAl에 관하여 집중적인 연구가 진행되어 왔으며 다른 금속간 화합물에 대해서도 광범위한 연구가 진행중이다. 그 예로서 $Co_3Ti$는 800.deg. C에서 최대강도를 보이며 저온에서는 온도가 감소하면서 강도가 다시 증가하면 연성이라는 장점을 지닌 관계로 $MoSi_2$는 높은 융점과 우수한 산화저항력 때문에 $Nb_2Al$은 높은 융점과 경량성 때 문에 복합재료의 matrix로서 최근 주목을 받고 있다. 끝으로 비록 금속간화합물이 취성이라는 단점 때문에 실용화에 많은 문제점이 있으며 본 재료에 관한 연구가 준비 제조공정과정에서 수 소취성화, 고용점온도 취성 등으로 인하여 사용해온 기존의 재료를 보다 좀더 극한 상황에서 가볍고 저렴하게 사용할 수 있는 우주항공 및 지상대체재료로서 개발할 수 있음을 고려할 때 본 재료에 대한 본격적인 연구가 국재 경쟁력강화를 위해 신소재 개발에 부심하는 우리나라에서도 이루어질 필요가 있다.
