  • According to numerical experiments, the Sokcho Eddy is produced at $37 5~39.0^{\circ}N$ by strong offshore winds, whereas the Ulleung Eddy is produced at $35~37^{\circ}N$ by an inflow variation of the Tsushima Current. These locations compare well with visual observations. The nonlinear 1$1/2$-layer model showed that most of the East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) driven by the Tsushima Current form the Ulleung Eddy that is larger and stronger than the Sokcho Eddy. In contrast, the nonlinear 2$1/2$-layer model showed that most of the EKWC travels further northward due to a strong subsurface current, thereby enhancing the Sokcho Eddy making it larger and stronger than the Ulleung Eddy. The Sokcho Eddy is also produced relatively offshore due to an eastward subsurface current in the frontal region. Using the 1$1/2$-layer model, when the mass of the Tsushima Current decreases, the two eddies are weakened and produce a circular shape. In the 2$1/2$-layer model the EKWC pushes the Ulleung Eddy northward after 330 days, next the Sokcho and Ulleung eddies begin to interact with each other, and then after 360 days the Ulleung Eddy finally disappears absorbed by the relatively stronger Sokcho Eddy. This behavior compares favorably with other visual observations.

  • Blue phosphorescent $(dfpypy)_2Ir(mppy)$, where dfpypy = 2',6'-difluoro-2,3'-bipyridine and mppy = 5-methyl-2-phenylpyridine, has been synthesized by newly developed effective method and its solid state structure and photoluminescent properties are investigated. The glass-transition and decomposition temperature of the compound appear at $160^{\circ}C$ and $360^{\circ}C$, respectively. In a crystal packing structure, there are two kinds of intermolecular interactions such as hydrogen bonding ($C-H{\cdots}F$) and edge-to-face $C-H{\cdots}{\pi}(py)$ interaction. This compound emits bright blue phosphorescence with ${\lambda}_{max}=472nm$ and quantum efficiencies of 0.23 and 0.32 in fluid and the solid state. The emission band of the compound is red-shifted by 40 nm relative to homoleptic congener, $Ir(dfpypy)_3$. The ancillary ligand in $(dfpypy)_2Ir(mppy)$ has been found to significantly destabilize HOMO energy, compared to $Ir(dfpypy)_3$, $(dfpypy)_2Ir(acac)$ and $(dfpypy)_2Ir(dpm)$, without significantly changing LUMO energy.

  • This study was for analysing the sedimentary rock slope stability and providing the reinforcement method that can heighten stability. The study area consists of Cretaceous basalt or basaltic tuff belonging to Hak-Bong Basalt Formation in Ha-Yang Group. Nature of geological structure confirmed in this area ars bedding, joint and fault. Majority of geological structure that affect most relationship rock slope stability is bedding. It is shown that dip direction is 120~160/15~25. In other structure, joint sets are shown that dip direction of set 1 is 310~330/65~85 and set 2 is 230~250/70~85. Joint set 3 shows above 85$^{\circ}$ high angle on NE trend although do not show clear. Stability analysis about rock slope used kinematic analysis, limit equilibrium method and FLAC by numerical analysis method. FLAC is continuum model that use Fintie Defferentce Method, but could use Interfaces Module and get discrete model's analysis effect such as UDEC.

  • This paper presents a computational model of a gas foil journal bearing with shim foils between the top foil and bumps, and predicts its static and dynamic performance. The analysis takes the previously developed simple elastic foundation model for the top foil-bump structure and advances it by adding foil models for the "shim foil" and "outer top foil." The outer top foil is installed between the (inner) top foil and bumps, and the shim foil is installed between the inner top foil and outer top foil. Both the inner and outer top foils have an arc length of $360^{\circ}$, but the arc length of the shim foil is shorter, which causes a ramp near its leading edge in the bearing clearance profile. The Reynolds equation for isothermal and isoviscous ideal gas solves the hydrodynamic pressure that develops within the bearing clearance with preloads due to the ramp. The centerline pressure and film thickness predictions show that the shim foil mitigates the peak pressure occurring at the loading direction, and broadens the positive pressure as well as minimum film thickness zones except for the shortest shim foil arc length of $180^{\circ}$. In general, the shim foil decreases the journal eccentricity, and increases the power loss, direct stiffness, and damping coefficients. As the shim foil arc length increases, the journal eccentricity decreases while the attitude angle, minimum film thickness, and direct stiffness/damping coefficients in the horizontal direction increase.

  • In this study, the $Sr_{1-x}Ba_{x}Al_{2}O_{4}:Eu^{2+},Dy^{3+}$ phosphor were prepared by the solid-state reaction method and its photoluminescence properties were investigated. Starting powders of $SrCO_3,\;BaCO_3,\;and\;Al_{2}O_3$ were mixed with $Eu_{2}O_3$ as activator, $Dy_{2}O_3$ as co-activator and $B_{2}O_3$ as flux. Then, the mixed powders were heated at the temperature of $1100{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h under the reducing ambient atmosphere of $95%Ar+5%H_2$. The effect of Ba addition from 0.0 to 1.0 mol on photoluminescence was investigated. As the amount of Ba increased, the intensity of emission increased and the optimum long phosphorescence occurred at the amount of 0.1 mol Ba. The optimum sintering condition for long phosphorescent phosphor of $Sr_{1-x}Ba_{x}Al_{2}O_{4}:Eu^{2+},Dy^{3+}$($x=0{\sim}1.0mol$) was found at $1400^{\circ}C$. The excitation spectra showed a broad band of $250{\sim}450nm$ with maximum peak at 360 nm. The maximum peak intensity of emission spectra occurred at the range of $480{\sim}520nm$, depending on Ba content.

  • This paper deals with the characteristics of partial discharge (PD) for the purpose of a condition based maintenance (CBM) of gas insulated switchgears (GIS) in power equipment. Four types of electrode systems such as a protrusion on enclosure (POE), a particle on spacer (POS), a free particle (FP) and a Floating were designed and fabricated. PD pulses were measured using UHF sensor with a frequency range of 300 MHz~1.4 GHz and a DAQ with a sampling rate of 250 MS/s. Discharge inception voltage (DIV), discharge extinction voltage (DEV), and phase resolved partial discharge (PRPD) were analyzed depending on electrode systems. The average DIV in the POS was 28.8 kV. It was about 1.7 times higher than that in the FP, which was the lowest value of 17.2 kV. The FP shuffled and jumped at the applied voltage of 23.5 kV. Over 95% of PD pulses in the POE were generated in the negative polarity ($181^{\circ}{\sim}360^{\circ}$) of applied voltage. The results showed the phase (${\Phi}$)-magnitude (dBm) of PD pulses by UHF sensor, a cluster was formed separately depending on electrode systems.

  • Adult stem cell transplantation has been increased every year, because of the lack of organ donors for regenerative medicine. Therefore, development of reliable and safety cryopreservation and bio-baking method for stem cell therapy is urgently needed. The present study investigated safety of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) such as common cryoprotectant on porcine bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (pBM-MSCs) by evaluating the activation of Caspase-3 and -7, apoptosis related important signal pathway. pBM-MSCs used for the present study were isolated density gradient method by Ficoll-Paque Plus and cultured in A-DMEM supplemented 10% FBS at $38.5^{\circ}C$ in 5% $CO_2$ incubator. pBM-MSCs were cryopreserved in A-DMEM supplemented either with 5%, 10% or 20% DMSO by cooling rate at $-1^{\circ}C$/min in a Kryo 360 (planner 300, Middlesex, UK) and kept into $LN_2$. Survival rate of cells after thawing did not differ between 5% and 10% DMSO but was lowest in 20% DMSO by 0.4% trypan blue exclusion. Activation of Caspase-3 and -7 by Vybrant FAM Caspase-3 and -7 Assay Assay Kit (Molecular probes, Inc.OR, USA) was analyzed with a flow cytometer. Both of cryopreserved and control groups (fresh pBM-MSCs) were observed after the activation of Caspase-3 and -7. The activation did not differ between 5% and 10% DMSO, but was observed highest in 20% DMSO. Therefore 5% DMSO can be possibly used for cell cryopreservation instead of 10% DMSO.

  • Some phenolics were examined as an antioxidant for the autoxidation of soybean oil. Soybean oil was autoxidized under a mild condition (the flow rate of 67ml $O_{2}/min$ and $50^{\circ}C$). The antioxidant effect was estimated by active oxygen method. Phenolics show distinctive antioxidant effect, and the effect is prominent when cupper or iron was added. Phenolics showed a tendency to increase antioxidant effect with an increase of the number of hydroxyl group, and the increasing order was ferulic acid, quinalizarin, sesamol, alizarin, fisetin and purpurogallin. However, the effect was remarkably low in ferulic acid, alizarin and quinalizarin. It was found that the antioxidant effect was dependent on the functional group and geometric molecular structure of phenolics.
