  • Let ${\mathcal{L}}_2=(-{\Delta})^2+V^2$ be the $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ type operator, where nonnegative potential V belongs to the reverse $H{\ddot{o}}lder$ class $RH_s$, s > n/2. In this paper, we consider the operator $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}=V^{2{\alpha}}{\mathcal{L}}^{-{\beta}}_2$ and its conjugate $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$, where $0<{\alpha}{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}1$. We establish the $(L^p,\;L^q)$-boundedness of operator $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ and $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$, respectively, we also show that $T_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ is bounded from Hardy type space $H^1_{L_2}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ into $L^{p_2}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ and $T^*_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ is bounded from $L^{p_1}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$ into BMO type space $BMO_{{\mathcal{L}}1}({\mathbb{R}}^n)$, where $p_1={\frac{n}{4({\beta}-{\alpha})}}$, $p_2={\frac{n}{n-4({\beta}-{\alpha})}}$.

Steroidal Saponins from the Rhizomes of Asparagus oligoclonos and their Antibacterial Activity (방울비짜루(Asparagus oligoclonos)로부터 분리한 스테로이드 사포닌의 항균활성)

  • Two steroidal saponins were isolated from MeOH extract of the rhizomes of Asparagus oligoclonos. Using the spectroscopic techniques of $^1H,\;^{13}C$ NMR and 2D NMR, they were identified as $3-O-[{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-(1{\rightarrow}2)-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl]-(25S)-spirostan-3{\beta}-ol$ and $3-O-{{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-(1{\rightarrow}2)-[{\beta}-D-xylopyranosyl-(1{\rightarrow}4)]-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl}-(25S)-spirostan-3{\beta}-ol$, respectively. They were first isolated from A. oligoclonos. The in vitro antibacterial activities as well as antibacterial spectrums against 20 bacteria strains were investigated with MIC test. Both saponins inhibited the growth of 10 bacteria strains at the concentration of$100\;{\mu}g/ml$.

Changes of Interleukin-12 and Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1 before and after Antipsychotic Treatments in Schizophrenic Patients (정신분열병 환자에서 Interleukin-12와 Transforming Growth Factor Beta 1의 치료 전후의 변화)

  • Background:Several reports have suggested that cytokine alterations could be related to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. In this study, we measured plasma level of interleukin-12(IL-12), a proinflammatory T helper 1(Th1) cytokine and transforming growth factor-${\beta}1$(TGF-${\beta}1$), an anti-inflammatory Th3 cytokine before and after antipsychotic treatment in schizophrenic patients. Methods:The plasma concentrations of IL-12 and TGF-${\beta}1$ were measured by using quantitative ELISA in 23 schizophrenic patients and 31 normal controls at admission and 8 weeks later. The psychopathology was measured by Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS). Results:IL-12 and TGF-${\beta}1$ levels were significantly higher in schizophrenic patients than in controls before treatment. At the 8 week of treatment, the TGF-${\beta}1$ levels returned to control values, while IL-12 levels were not significantly changed. There were no significant correlations between the changes of BPRS scores and the changes of IL-12 or TGF-${\beta}1$ levels in schizophrenic patients. Conclusion:Cytokine abnormalities in schizophrenia might be involved in the pathophysiology of the illness. It is possible that TGF-${\beta}1$ plays an important role in the schizophrenia.

Sorting Nexin 17 Interacts Directly with Kinesin Superfamily KIF1B${\beta}$ Protein

  • KIF1B${\beta}$ is a member of the Kinesin superfamily proteins (KIFs), which are microtubule-dependent molecular motors that are involved in various intracellular organellar transport processes. KIF1B${\beta}$ is not restricted to neuronal systems, however, is widely expressed in other tissues, even though the function of KIF1B${\beta}$ is still unclear. To elucidate the KIF1B${\beta}$-binding proteins in non-neuronal cells, we used the yeast two-hybrid system, and found a specific interaction of KIF1B${\beta}$ and the sorting nexin (SNX) 17. The C-terminal region of SNX17 is required for the binding with KIF1B${\beta}$. SNX17 protein bound to the specific region of KIF1Bf3 (813-916. aa), but not to other kinesin family members. In addition, this specific interaction was also observed in the Glutathione S-transferase pull-down assay. An antibody to SNX17 specifically co-immunoprecipitated KIF1B${\beta}$ associated with SNX17 from mouse brain extracts. These results suggest that SNX17 might be involved in the KIF1B${\beta}$-mediated transport as a KIF1B${\beta}$ adaptor protein.

  • N-phenyl-${\beta}$-naphthylamine(PBNA)의 수치화된 직업적 노출기준은 권고하지 않았다. 공업용 N-phenyl-${\beta}$-naphthylamine에는 불순물로 ${\beta}$-Naphthylamine포함되어 있다. ${\beta}$-Naphthylamine은 사람에서 발암성 확인물질(A1)로 ${\beta}$-Naphthylamine에 대한 TLV Documentation의 참조가 필요하다. ${\beta}$-Naphthylamine은 N-phenyl-${\beta}$-naphthylamine에 노출된 사람의 대사산물이다. N-phenyl-${\beta}$-naphthylamine은 동물실험에서 제한적으로 발암성이 증명되었지만 사람에서는 발암성이 충분하게 입증되지는 않았다. 따라서 사람에게 발암성으로 분류되지 않는 A4로 경고주석을 선정하였으며 수치화된 노출기준 없이 모든 노출경로에서 N-phenyl-${\beta}$-naphthylamine에 노출되지 않도록 관리하는 것을 권고하였다.

  • The addition reactions of cysteine without blocking amino and carboxyl groups to substituted and unsubstituted ${\beta}$-nitro-styrene derivatives were investigated. ${\beta}$-Nitrostyrene(1a), p-methyl-${\beta}$-nitrostyrene(1b), 3,4,5-trimethoxy-$[\beta}$ -nitrostyrene(1c), $[\varpi}$-3,4-methylenedioxy-${\beta}$ -nitrostyrene(1d), o-, m- and p-chloro-${\beta}$ -nitrostyrene (1e, 1f, 1g) and o-, m- and p-methoxy-${\beta}$-nitrostyrene (1h, 1i, 1j) easily undergo addition reactions with cysteine to form S-(2-nitro-1-phenylethyl)-L-cysteine(3a), S-[2-nitro-1-(p-methyl)phenyl-ethyl]-L-cysteine(3b), S-[2-nitro-1-(3',4',5'-trimethoxy) phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3c), S-[2-nitro-1-($[\vatpi}$ -3',4'-methylenedioxy)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3d), S-[2-nitro-1-(o-chloro)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3e), S-[2-nitro-1-(m-chloro)-phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3f), S-[2-nitro-1-(p-chloro)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3g), S-[2-nitro-1-(o-methoxy)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3h), S-[2-nitro-1-(m-methoxy)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3i) and S-[2-nitro-1-(p-methoxy)phenylethyl]-L-cysteine(3j), respectively. The structure of adducts were confirmed by means of UV-spectrum, IR-spectrum, molecular weight measurement and elemental analysis. The various factors effecting the yield of cysteine adducts to ${\beta}$-nitrostyrene derivatives were also studied.

Direct Detection of (1-3)-$\beta$-Glucanase Isozymes in Isoelectrofocusing Gels Using a Dye -Labeled Substrate (염료착색 기질을 이용한 IEF gel에서(1-3)-$\beta$-glucanase 동위효소의 검출)

  • A procedure for the direct detection of (1-3)-$\beta$-glucanase isozymes in electrophoresis gels was developed. The procedure employed the commercial preparation of AZCL-pachyman as a chromogenic substrate for (1-3)-$\beta$-glucanases. The procedure detected the three basic isozymes which have been known to be expressed in germinating barley kernels. A major acidic and a minor isozymes were also detected in germinating kernels. The procedure was proved to be fast, simple and sensitive enough to be used for the analysis of the expression of (1-3)-$\beta$-glucanase isozymes in plant tissues. The detection limit of the procedure for the commercial preparation of Penicillium (1-3)-$\beta$-glucanase was estimated to be as low as 50$\mu$U. The procedure could be used for the investigation of (1-3)-$\beta$-glucanases in laboratories facilitated with ordinary equipments and research personnel.

All of them showed inhibitory potential against butyrylcholinesterase.

Effects of Dietary ${\beta}-1,3$ Glucan on Growth and Immune Responses in Juvenile Olive Flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (치어기 넙치 사료내 ${\beta}-1,3$ 글루칸의 첨가가 성장 및 비특이적 면역반응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of ${\beta}-1,3$ glucan on growth and immune responses in juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus fed the white fish meal based diets for 6 weeks. Five experimental diets supplemented with ${\beta}-1,3$ glucan at 0, 0.01, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 % (Control, $G_{0.01},\;G_{0.025},\;G_{0.05}\;and\;G_{0.1}$, respectively) of diet on a dry-matter basis. Five experimental diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous and isocaloric to contain 50.0% crude protein and 16.7 kJ available energy $g^{-1}$. Fish averaging $3.2{\pm}0.1\;g\;(mean{\pm}SD)$ were randomly distributed in each aquarium as triplicate groups of 15 fish. Weight gain (WG, %), specific growth rate (SGR, %), and feed efficiency (FE, %) of fish fed $G_{0.1}$ diet were found significantly higher than those of fish fed Control, $G_{0.01},\;G_{0.025}\;and\;G_{0.05}$ diets (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference among the fish fed control, $G_{0.01},\;G_{0.025}$. Chemiluminescent responses (CL) of fish fed $G_{0.1}$ diet were significantly higher than those of fish fed the other diets. Serum lysozyme activities of fish fed $G_{0.05}$ and $G_{0.1}$ diets were higher than those of fish fed control, $G_{0.025}$ and $G_{0.05}$ diets. Fish fed $G_{0.1}$ diet showed a significantly lower cumulative mortality than did fish fed control diet throughout the challenge test (P<0.05). These results suggested that based on growth rate, feed efficiency, non-specific immunity and protection against microbial infections the optimum dietary ${\beta}-1,3$ gulcan could be greater than 0.05% but less than 1.0% in juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys oilvaceus.

  • A new $\beta$-carboline alkaloid, 1-carbobutoxy-$\beta$-carboline as well as $N_{9}$ -formylharman, 1-carboethoxy-$\beta$-carboline, 1-carbomethoxy-$\beta$- carboline, perloyrine, harman and norharman were isolated from the rhizoma of Polygala tenuifolia Willdenow. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence.
