  • We have investigated the optimum combination of the environmental noise condition and type of SQUID pickup coil in order to obtain maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The measurement probe consists of 1st order gradiometer with pickup coils of 100 mm, 70 mm, and 50 mm baseline length, a 2nd order gradiometer with 50 mm baseline, and a magnetometer. The pickup coils are fabricated by winding Nb wire on a bobbin with 200 mm diameter. Noise and heart signal of a healthy male were measured by various SQUID sensors with different types of pickup coils in various magnetically shielded rooms (MSR), and compared to each other. The shielding factors were found to be 43 dB, 35 dB and 25 dB at 0.1 Hz for MSR-AS, MSR-BS, MSR-CS, respectively. White noises were $3.5\;fT/Hz^{1/2}$, $4.5\;fT/Hz^{1/2}$ and $3\;fT/Hz^{1/2}$ for the 1st order gradiometers, the 2nd order gradiometers, and magnetometer for all MSRs. SNR of the magnetometer was up to 56 dB in MSR-AS, while the 1st order axial gradiometer with 70 mm baseline length was up to 54 dB in MSR-BS. The 2nd order axial gradiometer with 50 mm baseline length of pickup coil was found to be up to 40 dB in MSR-CS.

  • Small passenger and car carrier ships are mainly used as a connection way between land and small islands. And these ships should be designed to enlarge the capacity of passenger and car loading within limited space and draft. So the resonances of various vibrations exist in normal operation range of engine and propulsion shafting. In this paper, hull's superstructure vibration which was especially induced by the 1st order excitation of whirling vibration on the 2-engines and 2-propulsion shafting systems is introduced. Also these are verified via the theoretical analysis using transfer matrix method and FEA software ANSYS and its vibration measurement.

  • This paper presents the effect of vegetation layer and radar parameters on soil moisture measurement using the vegetation layer scattering model and surface scattering model. The database of backscattering coefficients for various vegetation layer densities, incidence angles, frequencies, and polarizations is generated using $1^{st}$-order RTM(Radiative Transfer Model). Then, surface soil moisture contents were estimated from the backscattering coefficients in the database using the WCM(Water Cloud Model) and Oh model. The retrieved soil moisture contents were compared with the soil moisture contents in the input parameters of the RTM to estimate the retrieval errors. The effects of vegetation layer and radar parameters on soil moisture measurement are analyzed using the retrieval errors.

  • An off-axis system refers to an optical system in which the optical axis and normal vector at the vertex of each surface do not match. The most important specification in an optical system is its focal length. Among the various methods for measuring the focal length, the most suitable method for the off-axis system is the method that adopts magnification. However, head-mounted display (HMD) optics must be measured while considering the virtual image distance, which is not infinity owing to product characteristics. For the virtual image distance, a camera with a focusing function was used. By measuring HMD optics via this magnification method, the error generated in this measurement was 0.68% of the HMD's focal length, which is within the 1%-3% range of the conventionally permitted design error for the focal length allowed at the optical design stage. Therefore, it can be verified that the measurement accuracy of the method proposed in this study is sufficiently feasible in practice.

  • We proposed a design method for squib current supply & interlock circuits in guided-missile fire control systems. In order to design squib current supply circuits, various missile squib loads including line resistance and squib devices have to be considered in advance minimizing probability of redesign of circuits and reducing the development cost by implementing the most proper squib current supply circuit. Also, we presented a hardware interlock logic instead of the commonly used software safety logic to improve the safety of guided-missile fire control systems. The proposed squib interlock circuit enhances safety requirements of guided-missile fire control systems. We confirmed that simulation and measurement results of the proposed design method are the same as theoretical analysis results.

  • In this paper, to determine process dynamic characteristics, the correlation method for measuring the impulse response of process using a pseudo-random binary signal as the test signal instead of white noise was studied. The error caused by using the signal of Mesquence signal generator which was built up by the authors was analysed. Experments were performed on the 1st and 2nd order lag systems and the results were in good coincidence with theoretical values. It is expected that applying these results, it may be possible to develop a continuous measuring method adaptable to modern control systems.

  • Dynamic properties of proteins can present key information on protein-ligand and protein-protein interaction. Despite their usefulness, the properties of protein dynamics have not been obtained easily due to protein stability and short-term measurement. Here, it is shown that combined method for analysis of dynamical properties. It utilizes predicted order parameter and NMR relaxation data such as $T_1$, $T_2$, and heteronuclear NOE. The suggested method could be used to know the flexibility of protein roughly without precise dynamical parameters such as order parameters through model-free analysis.

  • As a new standard for performance measurement, NEMA NU2-2001 was presented recently. In this study, I investigated the spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction, and noise equivalent count ratio (NECR) in order to know the information of physical characteristics and system performance of GE discovery ST using this new standard. Bismuth germinate crystals ($6{\times}6$ array, $6.3mm{\times}6.3mm{\times}30mm$) were used in discovery ST (energy window:375-650 keV, coincidence window:11.7 nsec). To measure the sensitivity, five aluminum sleeves (Data Spectrum Corp., Chapel Hill, NC., USA, thickness:1.25 mm)-NEMA sensitivity phantom- filled with F-18 solution were used. Successive measurements in 2D and 3D acquisition mode were made with a line source at the center of transaxial field of view and 10 cm off from the center until the count was over 500,000. Spatial resolution was estimated using a point source (F-18, 0.1 mCi) at different locations in the FOV. Scatter fraction and NECR was tested using a NEMA scatter phantom. Dynamic data were acquired for 7 half-lives using F-18 solution. And true to background ratio was averaged at last three frames when the random rate was as small as ignorable for the calculation of scatter fraction. We anticipate this overall evaluated results could be used for the quality assurance and optimized image acquisition for clinical research.

  • In case of more than 50km baseline length, the correlation between receivers is reduced. Therefore, there are still some rooms for improvement of its positional accuracy. In this paper, the stochastic modeling of the ionospheric delay is applied and its effects are analyzed. The data processing has been performed by constructing a Kalman filter with states of positions, ambiguities, and the ionospheric delays in the double differenced mode. Considering the medium or long baseline length, both double differenced GPS phase and code observations are used as observables and LAMBDA has been applied to fix the ambiguities. The ionospheric delay is stochastically modeled by well-known 1st order Gauss-Markov process. And the correlation time and variation of 1st order Gauss-Markov process are calculated. This paper gives analyzed results of developed algorithm compared with commercial software and Bernese.

  • We investigated signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of magnetocardiography (MCG) signals using the first-order and the second-order gradiometers of different baselines. The MCG signals were recorded using a measurement system with 61 magnetometers which measured the normal magnetic component to the chest surface. The distance between the chest surface and the bottom of the dewar was changed from 0 cm to 15 cm, and the MCGs were measured for each distance. By subtracting the other signals (distance = 1 to 15 cm) from the reference signal (distance =0 cm), we could simulate the first-order and the second-order gradiometer signals with various baselines. In addition, to evaluate the reproducibility of the simulation, we fabricated the wire wound first-order and second-order gradiometers which measured a normal magnetic component to the chest surface. The baselines of the first-order gradiometers were, respectively, 50 mm, 70 mm and 100 mm and the baseline of the second-order gradiometer was 50 mm. Using these gradiometers, we recorded the MCG signal and compared the SNR between the simulation and the measurement.
