  • Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the changes of phoria and calculated AC/A ratio, and their recovery time points by watching 3D television (3D TV). Methods: 50 subjects (male 30, female 20) of 20s to 40s ages who can watch 3D, were measured phoria using a Howell phoria card at 3 m for distance and 40 cm for near. The phoria was evaluated before watching 3D TV and every 10 minutes from starting of watching 3D TV for 30 minutes, and every 5 minutes after finishing of watching 3D TV for 30 minutes again. Results: For the distance phoria during and after watching 3D TV, it was increased to more exophoria $-0.98{\pm}1.37{\Delta}$ (prism diopters) after 10 minutes from starting of 3D TV watching (p=0.063) and increased to more exophoria $-1.00{\pm}1.28{\Delta}$ after 30 minutes (p=0.024), and started to decrease after finishing of watching 3D TV and recovered to the level of before 3D TV watching ($-0.78{\pm}1.11{\Delta}$) after 20 minutes (p=0.32) with comparing to phoria of before watching 3D TV ($-0.80{\pm}1.12{\Delta}$). For the near phoria, it was also increased to more exophoria $-5.71{\pm}4.45{\Delta}$ after 10 minutes from starting of watching 3D TV (p=0.000) and $-6.58{\pm}4.36{\Delta}$ after 30 minutes (p=0.000), and started to decrease after finishing of watching 3D TV and recovered to the level of before watching 3D TV after 20 minutes ($-4.34{\pm}3.67{\Delta}$) (p=0.32) with comparing to the phoria of before watching 3D TV ($-4.36{\pm}3.66{\Delta}$). AC/A ratio was decreased from $4.92{\pm}1.17{\Delta}/D$ for before 3D TV watching to $4.11{\pm}1.50{\Delta}/D$ for after 30 minutes from starting of watching 3D TV (p=0.000), and increased after the end of watching 3D TV and recovered to the level of before 3D TV watching ($4.93{\pm}1.18{\Delta}/D$) after 25 minutes (p=0.598). Conclusions: During watching 3D TV at near, it showed a tendency of convergence insufficiency by decrease of calculated AC/A ratio as result that exophoria at near was higher increased than exophoria at distance. However, the increased exophoria at both near and distance was recovered to the level of base line after 25 minutes from the end of watching 3D TV. Through this study, it seems to need rational proposals of advice for watching 3D TV.

  • Recently, much attention has been paid to problems which is concerned with voltage instability phenomena and much works on these phenomena have been made. In this paper, by substituting d $P_{k}$ d $e_{k}$ ( $v^{\rarw}$= e +j f) for $P_{k}$ in conventional load flow, direct method for finging the limit of voltage stability is proposed. Here, by using the fact that taylor se- ries expansion in .DELTA. $P_{k}$ and .DELTA. $Q_{k}$ is terminated at the second-order terms, constraint equation (d $P_{k}$ d $e_{k}$ =0) and power flow equations are formulated with new variables .DSLTA. e and .DELTA.f, so partial differentiations for constraint equation are precisely calculated. The fact that iteratively calculated equations are reformulated with new variables .DELTA.e and .DELTA.f means that limit of voltage stability can be traced precisely through recalculation of jacobian matrix at e+.DELTA.e and f+.DELTA.f state. Then, during iterative process divergence may be avoid. Also, as elements of Hessian mat rix are constant, its computations are required only once during iterative process. Results of application of the proposed method to sample systems are presented. (author). 13 refs., 11 figs., 4 tab.

  • Chemical and isotopic analysis for stream water, shallow groundwater, intermediate groundwater and deep groundwater was carried out to grasp hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwater in the Heunghae area, Pohang city. Water type of stream water and shallow groundwaters is typified as Ca-Cl type, intermediate groundwater is $Na-HCO_3$, and deep groundwater is prominent in Wa-Cl type. $HCO_3^-\;and\;SiO_2$ in shallow groundwater are originated from weathering of silicate minerals, whereas those of deep groundwaters are resulted from weathering of carbonate minerals. Ca and Mg ions in both shallow and deep groundwaters are resulted from weathering of calcite and dolomite. $SO_4^{2-}$ in shallow groundwater is originated mainly from pyrite oxidation. As well depth increases, pH and TDS increase, but Eh and DO decrease. Alkali metal contents(K, Na, Li) increases as well depth increases, but alkali earth metal(Mg, Ca) and hi concentrations increase as well depth decreases. Anions, halogen elements(F, Cl, Br), and $HCO_3$ contents increase as well depth increases. The average stable isotope value of the groundwater of each depth is as follows; deep groundwater: ${\delta}^{18}O=-10.1\%o,\;{\delta}D=-65.8\%_{\circ}$, intermediate groundwater: ${\delta}^{18}O=-8.9\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-59.6\%_{\circ}$, shallow groungwater : ${\delta}^{18}O=-8.0\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-53.6\%_{\circ}$, surface water : ${\delta}^{18}O=-7.9\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-53.3\%_{\circ}$ respectively.

  • Stable isotope ratios of oxygen and hydrogen were investigated in southern Yellow Sea in August 1997. Salinity showed good positive correlation with ${\delta}^{18}$O and ${\delta}$. The correlation between ${\delta}^{18}$O and ${\delta}$D is good. From the relationship between these parameters, we obtained two lines of conclusion: 1) seawater of study area I in summer is a mixture of Changjiang Water and modified Kuroshio Water; 2) stable isotopes are very useful tracers in studying property and behavior of water masses in the study area. In case when water masses can not be easily distinguished by T-S analysis, the stable isotopes seem to be powerful tools for this purpose.

  • This study investigates the hydraulic characteristics and the delta development processes in the improved-pneumatic-movable weir by considering the standing angle of the weir through laboratory experiments. The delta migration speed decreases rapidly with time. As the ratio of delta height to water depth increases, the dimensionless delta migration speed decreases at the delta point. Therefore, the water depth decreases as the delta height increases. Although the delta volume is large due to the effective height of the delta, the delta migration speed and sediment deposition decreases because of the backwater effect on the delta. On the same bed slope condition, the larger the weir height, the larger the delta volume and the ratio of delta height to delta front length is close to 1.0. The delta development could be suppressed when the weir is high. Therefore, the condition that the weir is high has the suppressing effect on the delta developments.

  • The binding properties and sequence selectivities of ${\Delta}{\Delta}$- and ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ (bip = 4,4'-biphenylene (imidazo [4,4-f][1,10]phenanthroline) complexes with $poly[d(A-T)_2]$ and $poly[d(G-C)_2]$ were investigated using conventional spectroscopic methods. When bound to $poly[d(A-T)_2]$, a large positive circular dichroism (CD) spectrum was induced in absorption region of the bridging moiety for both the ${\Delta}{\Delta}$- and ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complexes, which suggested that the bridging moiety sits in the minor groove of the polynucleotide. As luminescence intensity increased, decay times became longer and complexes were well-protected from the negatively charged iodide quencher compared to that in the absence of $poly[d(A-T)_2]$. These luminescence measurements indicated that Ru(II) enantiomers were in a less polar environment compared to that in water and supported by minor groove binding. An angle of $45^{\circ}$ between the molecular plane of the bridging moiety of the ${\Delta}{\Delta}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complex and the local DNA helix axis calculated from reduced linear dichroism ($LD^r$) spectrum further supported the minor groove binding mode. In the case of ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complex, this angle was $55^{\circ}$, suggesting a tilt of DNA stem near the binding site and bridging moiety sit in the minor groove of the $poly[d(A-T)_2]$. In contrast, neither ${\Delta}{\Delta}$-nor ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complex produced significant CD or $LD^r$ signal in the absorption region of the bridging moiety. Luminescence measurements revealed that both the ${\Delta}{\Delta}$- and ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complexes were partially accessible to the $I^-$ quencher. Furthermore, decay times became shorter when bis-Ru(II) complexes bound to $poly[d(G-C)_2]$. These observations suggest that both the ${\Delta}{\Delta}$- and ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ complexes bind at the surface of $poly[d(G-C)_2]$, probably electrostatically to phosphate group. The results indicate that ${\Delta}{\Delta}$- and ${\Lambda}{\Lambda}-[{\mu}-Ru_2(phen)_4(bip)]^{4+}$ are able to discriminate between AT and GC base pairs.

  • In the previous study, the anti-oxidant activity of oxtract/fraction of Sueada aspparagoides(SA) and the stability test for the cream containing SA extract were investigated respectively[1,2]. In this study, the components of SA extract were analyzed by TLC, HPLC, and LC/ESI-MS/MS, $^1H$-NMR. TLC chromatogram of ethyl acetate fraction of SA extract revealed 5 bands $(SA1{\sim}SA5)$. HPLC chromatogram of aglycone fractions obtained from deglycoylation reaction of ethyl acetate fraction showed 2 bands (SAA 2 and SAA 1), which were identified as quercetin (composition ratio, 16.88%) and kaempferol (83.12%) in the order of elution time. Among 5 bands of TLC chromatogram, 4 bands $(SA2{\sim}SA5)$ also were Identified as kaempferol-3-O-glucoside (SA 2), quercetin-3-O-glucoside (SA3), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (SA 4), quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (SA 5) by LC/ESI-MS/MSMS/MS. respectively. The spectrum generated for SAA 1 by LC/ESI-MS/MS in the negative ion mode also gave the ion corresponding to the deprotonated aglycone $[M-H]^-$ (285m/z), the $^1H$-NMR spectrum contained signals [${\delta}$ 6.19 (1H, d, J=1.8Hz, H-6), ${\delta}$ 6.44 (1H, d, J=1.8Hz, H-8), ${\delta}$ 6.92 (2H, d, J=9.0Hz, H-3', 5'), ${\delta}$ 8.04 (2H, d, J=9.0Hz, H-2', 6', thus SAA 1 was identified as kaempferol. SAA 2 yielded the deprotonated agycone ion $[M-H]^-$ (301m/z), $^1H$-NMR spectrum showed signals [${\delta}$ 6.20 (1H, d, J=2.0Hz, H-6), ${\delta}$ 6.42 (1H, d, J=2.0Hz, H-8), ${\delta}$ 6.90 (1H, d, J=8.6Hz, H-5'), ${\delta}$ 7.55 (1H, dd, J=8.6, 2.2Hz, H-6'), ${\delta}$ 7.69 (1H, d, J=2.2Hz, H-2', thus SAA 2 was Identified as quercetin. In conclusion, with the anti-oxidant activity and the stability test reported previously, component analysis of SA extracts could be applicable to new cosmeceuticals.

  • Let p(t, x) be the fundamental solution to the problem $${\partial}^{\alpha}_tu=-(-{\Delta})^{\beta}u,\;{\alpha}{\in}(0,2),\;{\beta}{\in}(0,{\infty})$$. If ${\alpha},{\beta}{\in}(0,1)$, then the kernel p(t, x) becomes the transition density of a Levy process delayed by an inverse subordinator. In this paper we provide the asymptotic behaviors and sharp upper bounds of p(t, x) and its space and time fractional derivatives $$D^n_x(-{\Delta}_x)^{\gamma}D^{\sigma}_tI^{\delta}_tp(t,x),\;{\forall}n{\in}{\mathbb{Z}}_+,\;{\gamma}{\in}[0,{\beta}],\;{\sigma},{\delta}{\in}[0,{\infty})$$, where $D^n_x$ x is a partial derivative of order n with respect to x, $(-{\Delta}_x)^{\gamma}$ is a fractional Laplace operator and $D^{\sigma}_t$ and $I^{\delta}_t$ are Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative and integral respectively.

  • chondroitin sulfates were isolated from the mud snail. For the quantitative analysis of enzymatic digestion products of isolated chondroitin sulfates, strong anion exchange-high performance liquid chromatography (SAX-HPLC) was performed. by the action of chondroitinase ABC, three unsaturated disaccharides$ 2-acetamide-2-deoxy-3-O-({\beta}-D-gluco-4-enepyranosyluronic acid)-D-galactose $$({\Delta}Di-OS), $2-acetamide-2-deoxy-3-O-({\beta}-D-gluco-4-enepyranosyluronic acid)-6-O-sulfo-D-galactose ({\Delta}Di-6S) and 2-acetamide-2-deoxy-3-O-({\beta}-D-gluco-4-enepyranosyluronic acid)-4-O-sulfo-D-galactose ({\Delta}Di-4S)$ were produced from the mud snail chondroitin sulfates. The analysis showed that relative proportion of ${\Delta}Di-OS/{\Delta}Di-6S/{\Delta}Di-4S$ was 58.7/3.1/38.2. The immunomodulating activity of chondroitin sulfate was examined by cell proliferation assay and these results suggest that it might be a immunosuppressant.
