Effect of various environmental factors such as concentration of NaClO2, relative humidity, temperature, and time on the production of gaseous chlorine dioxide (다양한 환경조건(NaClO2 농도, 상대습도, 온도, 시간)에 따른 이산화염소 기체의 발생량 변화)

  • This study was performed to determine the optimum conditions for the production of gaseous chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) from aqueous $ClO_2$ (HCl+$NaClO_2$). When 1 N HCl was reacted with various concentrations of $NaClO_2$ (50,000-500,000 mg/mL), the highest concentration (695 mg/L) of gaseous $ClO_2$ was obtained from the aqueous $ClO_2$ containing $100,000{\mu}g/mL$ $NaClO_2$. Next, the effects of relative humidity (RH; 43, 85, and 100%) and temperature (4, 12, and $25^{\circ}C$) on the production of gaseous $ClO_2$ were investigated. It was observed that the concentration of gaseous $ClO_2$ was increased as RH was decreased, or the temperature was increased. Finally, it was confirmed that the amount of gaseous $ClO_2$ was highly correlated ($R^2=0.9546-0.9992$) with the volume of aqueous $ClO_2$. The results of this study provide useful information for designing a sanitization program using gaseous $ClO_2$ under various environmental conditions.

The Effect of Lithia Addition on the Sodium Ion Conductivity of Vapor Phase Converted Na-β"-alumina/YSZ Solid Electrolytes

  • Na-β"-Al2O3 has been widely employed as a solid electrolyte for high-temperature sodium (Na) beta-alumina batteries (NBBs) thanks to its superb thermal stability and high ionic conductivity. Recently, a vapor phase conversion (VPC) method has been newly introduced to fabricate thin Na-β"-Al2O3 electrolytes by converting α-Al2O3 into β"-Al2O3 in α-Al2O3/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) composites under Na+ and O2- dual percolation environments. One of the main challenges that need to be figured out is lowered conductivity due to the large volume fraction of the non-Na+-conducting YSZ. In this study, the effect of lithia addition in the β"-Al2O3 phase on the grain size and ionic conductivity of Na-β"-Al2O3/YSZ solid electrolytes have been investigated in order to enhance the conductivity of the electrolyte. The amount of pre-added lithia (Li2O) precursor as a phase stabilizer was varied at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol% against that of Al2O3. It turns out that ionic conductivity increases even with 1 mol% lithia addition and reaches 67 mS cm-1 at 350 ℃ of its maximum with 3 mol%, which is two times higher than that of the undoped composite.

$^{137}$ Cs Gamma Ray Induced Thermoluminescence from ion Implanted $Al_2$O$_3$ ($^{137}$ Cs 감마선 여기에 의한 이온 주입된 $Al_2$O$_3$의 열자극 발광)

  • $\^$137/Cs gamma ray induced thermoluminescenc(TL) from Na$\^$+/ ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ and unimplanted Al$_2$O$_3$ and the TL from Na$\^$+/ ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ are measured over the temperature range of 340K~620K. The TL curve of Na$\^$+/ ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ induced by $\^$137/Cs gamma ray is split into iolated TL peak located at 415K, 452K, 508K, and 568K. Because that the concentration of trapped char he carries of $\^$137/Cs gamma ray induced Al$_2$O$_3$ implanted with Na$\^$+/ ion is larger than that of Na$\^$+/ ion only implanted Al$_2$O$_3$, and the trap concentration of Na$\^$+/ ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ is much than that of $\^$137/Cs gamma ray only irradiated Al$_2$O$_3$, the TL intensity of Na$\^$+/ ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ induced by $\^$137/Cs gamma ray is about 20 times and 5 times higher than that of Al$_2$O$_3$ only implanted with Na$\^$+/ ion and Al$_2$O$_3$ only irradiated with $\^$137/Cs gamma ray, respectively. In proportion as ion implantation does and energy are incresed, the number of generated defects and the rate of defect creation are incresed, respectively. Therefore the TL intensity of ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ is depend on ion dose and energy. Acccrding to increse of incident ion mass, the TL intensity of ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ is abruptly decresce. This result showes that the TL intensity of ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ is closely related to ion depth range as wll as rate of defect creatin. The TL intensity of ion implanted Al$_2$O$_3$ is found to be related with defects generated by ion implantation. Table Caption

Influence of Inorganic Salts on Aqueous Solubilities of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

  • Setschenow constants of six alkali and alkaline earth metal-based electrolytes (i.e., NaCl, KCl, CaCl$_2$, K$_2$SO$_4$, Na$_2$SO$_4$, NaClO$_4$) for three polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (i.e., naphthalene, pyrene, and perylene) were investigated to evaluate the influence of a variety of inorganic salts on the aqueous solubility of PAHs. Inorganic salts showed a wide range of K$\_$s/ values (L/mol), ranging from 0.1108 (NaClO$_4$) to 0.6680 (Na$_2$SO$_4$) for naphthalene, 0.1071 (NaClO$_4$) to 0.7355 (Na$_2$SO$_4$) for pyrene, and 0.1526 (NaClO$_4$) to 0.8136 (Na$_2$SO$_4$) for perylene. In general, the salting out effect of metal cations decreased in the order of Ca$\^$2+/>Na$\^$+/>K$\^$+/. The effect of SO$_4$$\^$2-/>Cl$\^$-/>ClO4$\^$-/ was observed for anions of inorganic salts. The K$\_$s/ values decreased in the order of perylene>pyrene>naphthalene for K$_2$SO$_4$. However, the order of decreasing salting out effect for NaCl, KCl, CaCl$_2$, and NaClO$_4$ was perylene>naphthalene>pyrene. Hydration free energy of the 1:1 and 2:1 alkali and alkaline earth metal-based inorganic salts solution was observed to have a meaningful correlation with Setschenow constants. Thermodynamic interactions between PAH molecules and salt solution can be of importance in determining the magnitude of salting out effect for PAHs at a given salt solution.

The Electronic Properties of the $BT-(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$ System for Lead Free PTC

  • We weal know that PbO was poisonous and prone to volatilize, then to pollute the circumstance and hurt to people, so we should dope other innocuous additives instead of lead to increase Tc of composite PTC material. In order to prepare lead-free $BaTiO_3$-based PTC with middle Curie point, the incorporation on $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$ into $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics was investigated on samples containing 0.05, 0.07 and 0.1mol% of $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$. $(BaNaK)(TiNb)O_3$ was compounded as standby material by conventional solid-state reaction technique. The starting materials were $Na_2O_3$,$K_2CO_3$, $BaCO_3$, $TiO_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ powder, and using solid-state reaction method, too. The microstructure of samples were investigated by SEM, DSC, XRD and dielectric properties. Phase composition and lattice parameters were investigated by X-ray diffraction. Also, we are measure the resistivity of sintered bodies with calcinations condition.

Acid Treatment of Melting Slag and Its Hydrothermal Reaction (산처리한 생활폐기물 용융슬래그의 수열반응 특성)

  • Melting slag generated from municipal-incinerator ash contains lots of impurities which have adverse effects on zeolite synthesis. These impurities are detrimental to zeolite synthesis, and the yield and purity of zeolite was decreased. And thus its performance is lowered. In melting slag, there are lots of components such as $Fe_2O_3$, FeO and CaO. To remove these impurities, we treated the melting slag with hydrochloric acid at initial pH 1, 3, 5, and 7. After the treatment, the $SiO_2,\;Fe_2O_3,\;and\;TiO_2$ ratios increased, but the $Al_2O_3,\;FeO,\;CaO,\;Na_2O$ and MgO ratios decreased. We reacted these treated slag in a NaOH solution under hydrothermal conditions at $80^{\circ}C$. The hydrothermal products from the slag and the slag treated at pH 7 and pH 5 were determined to be tobermorite, whereas those at pH 3 and pH 1, Na-P1 and Na-X zoelite respectively. CaO was found to inhibit the synthesis of zeolite.

  • The solubility and the physicochemical property (refractive index) in the NaCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ systems were determined at $50^{\circ}C$ and the phase diagrams and the diagrams of physicochemical property vs composition were plotted. One invariant point, two univariant curves, and two crystallization zones, corresponding to sodium Chloride (or potassium chloride), dihydrate ($CaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$) showed up in the phase diagrams of the ternary systems. The mixing parameters ${\theta}_{M,Ca}$ and ${\Psi}_{M,Ca,Cl}$ (M = Na or K) and equilibrium constant $K_{sp}$ were evaluated in NaCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ systems by least-squares optimization procedure, in which the single-salt Pitzer parameters of NaCl, KCl and $CaCl_2$ ${\beta}^{(0)}$, ${\beta}^{(1)}$, ${\beta}^{(2)}$ and $C^{\Phi}$ were directly calculated from the literature. The results obtained were in good agreement with the experimental data.

Hydroxyapatite Formation on Fluoride Bioactive Glasses coated on Alumina (알루미나에 코팅된 불화물 생체유리에의 수산화 아파타이트 형성)

  • Bioglass which is one of the surface active bionmaterials has a good biocompatibility but a poor mechanical strength, In the present work therefore two types of fluoride-containing bioglasses were coated on an alumina to improve mechanical strength. Crystallization of the coating layer and the hydroxyapatite formation on the bioactive glass coatings in tris-buffer solution were studied. When bioactive glass coated alumina was heat-treated Na2CaSi3O8 crystal was formed on the layer at lower temperature while wollastonite(CaSIO3) was obtained at higher temperature. Hydroxyapatite forming rate on the coating layer with Na2CaSi3O8 crystal was delayed with SiO2 contents in glass composition. However the hydroxyapatite was developed in 20minutes regardless SiO2 contents when the coating layer crystallized into wollastonite. More amount of P3+ ions were leached out of the coating layer with wollastonite than that with Na2CaSi3O8 crystal while Na+ and Ca2+ ions were leached out more easily from the Na2CaSi3O8 crystal containing coating layer.

  • Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation(PEO)를 적용하여 두께 $120{\mu}m$의 알루미늄 판에 $Al_2O_3$ 산화피막을 형성하였다. 전해액의 주성분 KOH 와 $Na_2SiO_3$$Na_3P_2O_7$, $H_3PO_4$의 첨가제를 넣어 산화피막을 분석하였다. 첨가제 $Na_3P_2O_7$ 을 넣었을 때 치밀한 구조를 갖는 산화피막이 형성됨을 알 수 있었다. 특히 KOH, $Na_2SiO_3$, $Na_3P_2O_7$의 비율이 5:5:2 일때 가장 치밀하고 균질한 구조를 갖는 산화피막이 형성되었다.

  • The crystallization of metastable "orthorhombic" phase from the glass in the system of Na $AlSi_3O_8-CaAl_2Si_2O_8$ is studied. These crystals are crystallized in the range of composition from $Ab_80An_20$ to An100. The symmetry of these crystals show orthorhombic as a possible space group P22121. Two probable twin models are proposed. proposed.
