Objective : Euimunbogam(醫門寶鑑) is a synthetic medical book based on Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑), which was written by Myoung-Shin Zhu(周命新) in middle of Joseon era. And the book was published by Myoung-Seok Lee(李命錫) in 1918. This book has generally known as it's written in 1724 so far. But the life of Myoug-Shin Zhu is not well-known, and the year when Euimunbogam was compiled should be reconsidered. Method : We will find the historical records of Myoug-Shin Zhu through the close study of Joseon literatures. Result : Seungjeongwonilgi(承政院日記), Ilsungrock(日省錄), Taeuiwonseonsaengan(太醫院先生案), Yeolha diary(熱河日記), Yeonamgip(燕巖集), Euimunbogam show that Myoug-Shin Zhu was born in 1729 and he died in 1798. He worked as Ju-Bu(主簿) in HyeMinseo(惠民署) and Euiyakdongcham(醫藥同參) in Naeuiwon(內醫院). Conclusion : Myoug-Shin Zhu wrote Euimunbogam in 1784. And he was one of the famous physicians during the period between the king Young-Jo and Jung-Jo.

Objectives This study was designed to report the effect of Samultang-gamibang(四物湯加味方) for insomnia caused by blood deficiency (syndrome) after excessive weight control treatment with herbal medication Methods This is a retrospective case report. We reviewed the patient's medical record after taking the patient's informed consent. Results After treatment, a patient feels calm and satisfaction emotionally as sleeping time has increased from 2hours to 6hours, the fatigue after sleeping has been reduced, and the quality of sleep has become better. Conclusions This case report suggests that Samultang-gamibang can be effective in improving sleep duration and quality if the patient suffers insomnia due to hyul-heo syndrome. Also the woman who have symptom of hyul-heo(血虛) after weight control through decreased food consumption, should bo-hyul(補血).

Precious Mirror of Korean Medicine constitutes the basis of Korean orthodox medicine. In Korea it is regarded as the most influential medical work in existence and therefore been accorded first place among the medical works. Many books and reference works referred to Six Viscera and Five Bowels were quoted in Precious Mirror of Korean Medicine This dissertation is to study quoted passages and reference books related to Six Bowels and Five Viscera in Precious Mirror of Korean Medicine Based upon the medical works--Introduction to Medicine, Elementary Questions and Spiritual Pivot of Yellow Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine, Difficult Classic, Compendium of Medicine and etc.-- all but few references the quotations are clearly traced to their origin. It is hoped that this preliminary study will serve as a starting point for further work on the text, with more specific attention to the method of quotations and its many linguistic problems.

Objectives : The result is the followings after investingating composition, dosage and usage of Yukmijihwang-Hwan(六味地黃丸) in literature by country and Era. Methods : Investigated Classics of Oriental Medicine that Yukmijihwang-Hwan is first described. Results : Found 42 literatures searching Yukmijihwang-Hwan in Classics of Oriental Medicine. Literature that Yukmijihwang-Hwan is recorded by first was Yinhaijingwei(銀海精微), but capacity has not recorded. Yukmijihwang-Hwan Medicinal Decoction that eat(Yukmijihwang-Tang: 5 times) as pill than eat(Yukmijihwang-Hwan: 37 times) was more. Literature that composition of Yukmijihwang-Hwan is recorded by Rehmannia glutinosa(熟地黃) is 8 Ryang(兩), Poria cocos(白茯苓) is 3 Ryang, Paeonia suffruticosa(牧丹皮) is 3 Ryang, Alisma Canaliculatum (澤瀉) 3 Ryang, Cornus officinalis(山茱萸) 4 Ryang, Dioscorea batatus(山藥) 4 Ryang was most. Conclusions : Yukmijihwang-Hwan wat difference in composition and capacity that Chinese and Korean Classics of Oriental Medicine. After Dongeuibogam of the Korea is published, composition and capacity are connected until today.

Present study was carried out for development of a new supplementary product with gastroprotective effect. Natural Products mentioned that have GI protective property in Dongeuibogam and reports were evaluated anti-bacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori, then five heres were selected. The material used for the test were water extract of Alpinia oxyphlla (AO), Astragalus membranaceus (AM), Cinnamomum loureirii(CL), Citrus aurantium(CA), Amomum villosum(AV). They were tested individually on HCI ethanol-induced gastric lesion in rats, AV CL, AO showed the most significant effectiveness, respectively. Then two mixture different in their content ratio (P020701-1,-2) and complex with P020701-1 (CP) were made, and tested on HCI·ethanol, indomethacin-induced gastric lesion, aspirin-ligature, Shay ulcer and gastric secretion. P020701-1, -2 and CP showed significant effect on HCI ethanol, indomethacin-induced gastric lesion, and Shay ulcer. It can be regarded that the antigasuitic and anti-ulcerative effects of P020701- 1, -2 and CP are originated from reduction of total acid output identified by gastric secretion test.

This report describes 86 prescriptions related to the use of Herba Schizonepetae main blended from Dongeuibogam. The following conclusions were drawn through investigations on the prescriptions that use Herba Schizonepetae as a key component. Prescriptions that Herba Schizonepetae was taken as a monarch drug are utilized for22 therapeutic purposes, for example, eye disease, abscess disease, head and tooth, and woman disease. In particular, 16.3% of prescriptions appear in the chapter of eye. Prescriptions that utilize Herba Schizonepetae as the main component are used in the treatment of eye, abscess and woman disease, head disease, tooth disease and they are also used for treating 56 different types of disease. Herba Schizonepetae is used in pathogenic factors such as wind and used in pathology related to the liver and stomach system. The dosage of Herba Schizonepetae is 1pun 3li(about 0.49g) to 4don(about 14g), however 5pun 3li(about 1.99g)~1don(about 3.75g) has been taken the most for clinical application. Bangpungtang and Saenglyosamultang are the most useful base prescriptions which use the Herba Schizonepetae as the main ingredient.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to clarify the medicinal using part of Linderae Radix. Methods : Find out the using part of Linderae Radix in the Pharmacopoeia, main Herbal book and present day scientific research result. Results : 1. In the Phamacopoeia of 6 Nation, The herbal name of Lindera strychnifolia is Linderae Radix, the origin is root, shapes of Linderae Radix are recorded spindle-shaped, slightly curved, some constricted in the middle to be moniliform on every Pharmacopoeia. But only in the Pharmacopoeoa of the people's republic of china, root is recorded as root tuber. 2. The Straight root of Linderae Radix can not be used as medicine on the Pharmacopoeia of the China, Vietnamese, Chinese Taipei. 3. In Gaebo Boncho(開寶本草) and Bonchodogyeong(本草圖經), Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑), Bonchogangmok(本草綱目), ickmulmyeongsildogo(植物名實圖考), only the spindle-shaped root of Linderae Radix can be used as medicine. 5. The picture of the root is also spindle-shaped. Conclusions : The herbal name of Lindera strychnifolia is Linderae Radix, medicinal using part is root tuber, spindle-shaped, some constricted in the middle to be moniliform, straight and not spindle-shaped tap roots can not be used medicinally, and allowing guide line of straight root will upgrade the quality of Linderae Radix.

Objectives In order to reinterpret the meaning of Inch-Bar-Cubit used by pulse diagnosis, this study investigates floating pulses of lung and heart in the Inch area, middle pulse of spleen and livers in the Bar area, and deep pulse of kidney and life gate in the Cubit area. However, some suggested that the meaning of Inch-Bar-Cubit should be interpreted in the same way as floating-middle-deep. Methods In this study, the contents of Inch-Bar-Cubit assignment of pulse diagnosis proposed by Dongeuibogam and Medical Scientist were investigated along with the existing investigation of pulse diagnosis, and their interpretation was investigated. Result and conclusion The assignment of books in Pulse diagnosis can be applied by replacing them with floating-middle-deep instead of Inch-Bar-Cubit.

Bile juice prevents deposition of cholesterol in the blood vessel, digests fat, and absorbs fatty acid and vitamins, and it plays a great role on metabolism. Recently, emotional stimulus and mentally over-depression cause a person to come to illness, and westernization of way of life makes more patients with cholelithiasis, resulting into without bile secretion after cholelithotomy. Ageing, and gastrectomy and kidney transplantation are also the causes of more cholelithiasis occurrences. To solve these medical problems, we studied how Fel Sus Scrofa, which is not different from human bile juice, was used in the traditional Korean medicine. We I researched flavor, property, efficacy of Fel Sus Scrofa and how it was used by folk medicine, and we studied the usage examples of Fel Sus Scrofa in Sanghanlon and Dongeuibogam. The property of Sus Scrofa is bitter and cold. Its efficacy is to deposit glycogen. So it is known that it has been widely used, with many edible forms, without any humoral loss, for the inflammatory disease from various fever, problems of urine and feces, cutaneous disease, pulmonary disease, opthalmopathy, fever, thirst from diabetes, hepatocystic duct disorder. Fel Sus Scrofa can be used internally and externally to prevent humoral loss, and to control cutaneous disease among various pediatric disorder full of fever. And as we have in mind that it also can be used to treat patients with cholestasis after cholecystectomy, it is expected that post study of it must be done.

Hwanggeum-tang (HGT) was recorded in Dongeuibogam as being able to treat Sogal whose concept had been applied to Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) play important roles in the development of diabetic complications such as atherosclerosis by eliciting inflammatory responses. In this study, we examined the suppressive effects of HGT against inflammation elicited by AGEs. AGEs treatment increased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine gene TNF-${\alpha}$; chemokines MCP-1, IP-10; pro-inflammatory cyclooxygenase COX-2 on the THP-1 cells. HGT had suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory genes and protein levels in AGE-treated THP-1 cells. HGT had also decreased intracellular ROS production stimulated by AGEs. These results suggest that HGT has beneficial effects for the improvement diabetic vascular complication through suppressing inflammatory responses elicited by AGEs.
