Effects of Depression and Impulsive Behavior on Smoking of Adolescents

Abstract
This study was to investigate the relationship between depression and impulsive behavior among adolescents. The data were collected using questionnaire from the sample of 452 middle and high school students. The data were collected from July 2 to 13, 2012. Data were analyzed using frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test and logistic regression analysis (SPSS 20.0). The major findings of this study were as follows. Adolescents smoking rate were 19.2%. Firstly, Significant differences were found for Sex, school achievement levels, school of life satisfaction, family living together, parental relationship satisfaction between smoking group and non-smoking group. Secondly, Depression and impulsive behavior of smoking group were higher than non-smoking group. Thirdly, The logistic regression analysis revealed that depression, motor impulsiveness, and school achievement levels were significantly associated with smoking. The results of this study offer basic data for the development of intervention programs to prevent adolescents smoking.
