Design of Outrigger Damper System for Wind-Induced Vibration Control of Building Structures

Abstract
Outrigger system is one of the most popular structural systems which have been used in the design of super tall buildings constructed in recent year. In this study, a parametric studies and optimal design were peformed to investigate the performance of outrigger-damper system for wind-induced vibration control. Numerical model based on state-space equation formulation and general structural analysis program model (S/W model) were used. When only the viscous damping is considered in the outrigger damper system, the optimal location of the outrigger damper is the top of the building. However, when both the stiffness and damping are considered, the optimal location becomes different from the top. The outrigger damper system provides better control performance than typical outrigger system especially in reducing acceleration response.
