Suicidal Ideation and Affecting Factors according to Sex in Elderly by using Korea Health Panel Data 2010

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to measure suicidal ideation and to investigate the affecting factors according to sex in elderly by using Korea health panel data 2010. The data was analyzed by chi-square and multiple logistic regression using SPSS WIN 20.0 program. The major finding of this study were that the ratio of suicidal ideation was 7.5% in male and 12.6% in female. Affecting factors to suicidal ideation in male elderly revealed that presence of depression and family conflict stress, poor self-rated health status, irregular diet had more suicidal ideation by 8.94 times (CI 4.27-18.69), 1.96 times (CI 1.00-3.85), 2.74 times (CI 1.09-6.88), 2.68 times (CI 1.24-5.78). Affecting factors to suicidal ideation in female elderly revealed that no spouse, presence of depression, economic stress and family conflict stress had more suicidal ideation by 1.70 times (CI 1.12-2.59), 5.98 times (CI 3.80-9.43), 1.83 times (CI 1.04-3.21), 1.84 times (CI 1.20-2.82). respectively. This study is meaningful as an attempt to measure suicidal ideation and to analysis affecting factors suicidal ideation according to sex in elderly. A careful and thorough examination may be needed for further study.
