Abstract
In this article we explored factors influencing self efficacy for learning physics with 513 Korean physics gifted students. Participants of this study were required to write about their confidence, and motivation toward learning physics. Four researchers analyzed the qualitative data according to Strauss and Corbin (1998)is open cording process. We found Thirty-two self-efficacy-related variables were found from the studentsi answers and were categorized into eight factors: (1) personal characteristics, (2) thinking ability, (3) cognitive ability, (4) learning experience, (5) learning strategies, (6) understanding of the nature of science (NOS), (7) learning environment, and (8) motivation. Based on these results, researchers and physics gifted educators should be able to understand physics gifted studentsi self efficacy for learning science. We also suggest that educators and researchers who develop science education programs and diagnosis examination materials for gifted student should consider these eight influence factors of self efficacy identified in this research.
