Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assess carrying capacity of population and sustainability and to present sustainable development and policy direction in Daegu using emergy analysis. The energy systems diagram was constructed systematically by resources relation of natural environment and economic activity in 2002 using Odum's energy language. According to the result of emergy evaluation table, solar emergy quantity appeared that inflow of goods and services, 24,219.2E18sej/yr was the biggest value among other resources. In case of maintaining current economies in renewable resources, the carrying capacity of population was analyzed by 146,116 people, hence Daegu's population in 2002 was 17.39 times more excessive than the carrying capacity of population. As sustainable index appeared 0.06, so sustainability of social and economic system was estimated very low. Therefore, it is necessary to operate population distribution policy considering environmental carrying capacity and to reorganize into an environment-friendly industrial structure.
