Abstract
The last decade saw the remarkable development of the steel-concrete hybrid bridges in Japan. This was triggered by strong societal demands that call for the reduced cost of construction while improving its durahility. Hybrid bridges, which are economically competitive, are classified into two types: the composite bridge and the mixed bridge. This paper presents recent composite and mixed bridge examples including two examples of bridge pier. In addition to these constructed examples, an innovative composite system originally developed in Japan is introduced.
