Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine various experiments on hanok in 1930s through 'Joongdang-style Hanok' built by Segwon Jeong. Joongdang-style Hanok seems to have the background of 'House Improvement Movement(住宅改良運動) of the 1920s and 1930s. He compared advantages and disadvantages of traditional Korean houses and proposed a new plan of hanok named 'Geonyang House(建陽住宅)'. Joongdang-style hanoks of Segwon Jeong reveal his opinion which a house should be hygiene, practical, aesthetic and economic. But he should compromise with Joongjeong-style hanok and correct his Joongdang-style hanok because it should reflect Koreans' lifestyle.
