To prepare for war against the Qing, King Hyojong and Song Si-Yeol (Uam, 1607~1689) of Joseon compiled the "Sambang", a set of medical books by utilizing the experience of famous doctors from 8 provinces of Korea. After the compilation, the disciples of Uam compiled a book called "Sambang-chwaryo", a summary of the "Sambang". Although these two books have been mentioned several times in records, the actual books were known to be lost. However, a promotional article for "Sambang-chwaryo" in the 1940s edition list of the Haengnim publishing house, who tried to publish but failed, has been discovered, and a handwritten copy of the book from the editor's descendant has been obtained a few years ago. By acquiring this proofread copy, it has become possible to grasp the actual contents of the "Sambang-chwaryo". Moreover, the whole contents have been translated into modern Korean and released to the public. In this paper, we review the bibliographic information of this book and try to understand the purpose, process, author and various versions of the compilation and its history.

Eoyakwonbang is a collection of prescriptions of Yuyaoyuan, an imperial medical bureau of China. While the first edition of this book does not exist at present, two versions printed in Korea, and one printed in Japan, which is the well-known Gyesasingan Eoyakwonbang have been passed down. Eoyakwonbang is a meaningful text for the history of medical communication between China, Japan and Korea, but research on the different versions and contents of Eoyakwonbang have been insufficient. Out of the 2 versions published in Korea, Eulheja Eoyakwonbang is different from Gapjinja Eoyakwonbang [another version in Korea] and Gwanjeong Eoyakwonbang of Japan, in that the prescriptions are organized, the ingredients are organized according to the amount of each ingredient for each formula, and the amounts are recorded in an accurate manner. On the other hand, the Gapjinja version has many mistakes in the characters and content. The Gwanjeong version has lesser mistakes in characters, but repeats the content error of the Gapjinja version. Eulheja was printed after correction based on the original version or unknown version from China. Gapjinja was re-printed based on the Gyesasingan version, while Gwanjeong seems to have used the Gapjinja version as its original script, as the mistakes made in the Gapjinja version are repeated in the Gwanjeong version as well.

, which is part of The Oriental Library collection in Japan, is a record that Hwang Dosoon (黃道淳) visited China in 1894. In this paper, several facts have proved that the author of the is Hwang Dosoon. First, the records in the and coincide with each other. Second, I found Hwang Dosoon on the list of the written by Shim Donyoung and confirmed that one of the characters in his name was mis-spelled. Third, I confirmed that the date and place of the reports in coincided with the . Fourth, the name on the ownership stamp in the has been identified as Hwang Dosoon. The consists of five parts. They are preface, diary, appendix, list, and itinerary. The records are from August 7, 1849 to October 16, but briefly mentions the contents of the itinerary from July 17 to December 1. This book is a book written by Hwang Dosoon himself kept in his own collection, and is highly valuable because it is the only relic of Hwang Dosoon.

Sauna, or hanjeung (汗蒸) is a physical sweating method that uses external heat to forcibly raise body temperature to treat cold damage disorders (傷寒) in traditional Korean medicine. This study focuses on the fact that the sauna was recorded as a healing and bathing method on the Vinaya Pitaka (律藏), and investigates the records of folk sauna therapy of Joseon Dynasty from the perspective of Buddhist medicine which played a significant role in ancient medicine history in Korea. Although the word 'hanjeung (汗蒸)' first appeared in "The Veritable Records of King Sejong (世宗實錄)" in the Korean literature, this study aims to confirm the possibility that the tradition of Buddhist sauna bathing has already existed since the Three Kingdoms period in Korea, based on the fact that sauna bathing was recorded in the Vinaya Pitaka and that the ancient Buddhist bathing culture was introduced in ancient Japan. In addition, the succession of the Buddhist sauna tradition by Goryeo will be traced back through the records of 1920s urban saunas in Gaesung (개성) which was the old capital of Goryeo and had a strong tendency to adhere to traditional Goryeo customs. Finally, the study tries to identify the elements of the Buddhist sauna bathing on the records of folk sauna therapy in the Joseon Dynasty. As a result, this study examines how the Buddhist sauna bathing culture in ancient Korea, which was led by medical monks, spread in the general public and influenced the folk sauna therapy in the Joseon Dynasty.

In this study, we research the tendency of medical text publication by examining the period of the great measles outbreak and the period of the publication of specialized smallpox texts. Using the National Institute of Korean History database for the Annals of Joseon Dynasty, the Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Joseon Dynasty and Bibyeonsadeunglok, we will compare all records of measles occurrence. Measles and smallpox (Majin in Korean) have similar symptoms and treatment methods. In East Asia, when measles occurred it spread to Joseon and Japan, which are verified by records of the Annals of Joseon Dynasty, the Daily Records of Royal Secretariat of Joseon Dynasty and Bibyeonsadeunglok. The medical books related to measles are; Ryuhasinbang, Majinpyeon, Geupyubang, Yimsinyeokbang, Eulmisinjeon, Majingbang, Jinyeokbang, Magwahoetong, Majingibang, Susengsingam, Hongjinsinbang. Measles and Majin are the same disease. During the period of measles occurrence, measles-related medical books were published, and this relation of measles occurrence and measles-related medical text publication is verified by several national records.

It is known that the development of medical science is influenced by various social environmental factors. Historically, Chinese Medicine developed the most during the Song Yuan dynasty, and the reason for this was known to be due to socio-political factors. According to recent studies, however, this period also had severe changes in climate and environment. Therefore, this study was conducted under the premise that this change in climate and environment influenced medical development. When looking at the coldness of the 11th~12th century and data indicating warming before and after this period, the Song Yuan dynasty went through drastic periods of climate change. Therefore, diseases related to heat such as bubonic plague, measles, and malaria were common. Furthermore, due to occasional wars during the Song Yuan dynasty, social unrest was aggravated and infectious diseases spread due to land development and environmental pollution. As the health of people were threatened due to these factors, the printing and distribution of medical text were encouraged, and during this process, the great 4 doctors of Jin-Yuan appeared. The reason why they studied cures for infectious diseases due to heat was related to climatic environment change. The development in medical science is closely related to socio-political factors, however the change in climatic environments are inevitably related to disease emergence as well. Therefore, it should always be taken into consideration as an important factor that promotes development in medical science.

As Korea's representative medical text, "Donguibogam" reveals Korean Medicine's unique perspective on the human body. The text also contains abundant resources related to skin, leading to diverse researches on the subject today. In this paper, authors tried to elicit values of "Donguibogam" in the general cosmetics field, through literature review. First, prescriptions related to main functions of modern cosmetics (anti-aging, whitening, and moisturizing) were classified. In relation to anti-aging, concepts such as 返老 (reversing aging), 還童 (to become young again), 皺 (wrinkle), and 皮急 (tense skin) were extracted and 69 examples of treatments were introduced. For whitening care, 41 treatments were mentioned on hyper-pigmentation and general complexion. Concepts related to moisturizing included expressions such as 潤肌膚 (hydration of skin) and 光澤 (glow), induced by 48 treatment prescriptions. Second, cosmetics related prescriptions were classified according to the application methods of modern cosmetics. 78 prescriptions of cleansing category included washing-off local area with herbal liquid, bathing, washing-off after steaming, and soaking the body in the herbal liquid. Total of 308 topical application prescriptions covered the conditions of various skin inflammations, scalp illnesses, and etc. In conclusion, this research examines the value of "Donguibogam" as a useful of skincare. Further studies are expected to extend our understanding of the field.

Chalbyungyogyul (察病要訣) is a book of Korean Medicine which contains simple knowledges combined with experienced prescriptions. This study intends to introduce a manuscript of Chalbyungyogyul handed down in a family in Yeongwol-gun and analyze the Eui'an (醫案) in it. This book includes common sense in medicinal herbs and 142 cases of Eui'ans. The Eui'ans in Chalbyungyogyul can be divided into three types. Some Eui'ans state miraculous effects. External medical treatments are used in another group of Eui'ans. In the other Eui'ans, prescriptions composed by a single herb are applied. These characteristics are differentiated from those of preexisting Eui'ans in the history of Korean medicine which mainly include complexly prescribed internal medicines and medical discussions. This book vividly describes medical practice in the early 20th century and shows the realization of theoretical writings. Above all, it is a valuable discovery of Eui'an compilation which is rare in the history of Korean medicine.

This study tries to review the possibility of combination between PBL (Problem Based Learning) and Eui'an (醫案). Recently in the field of Korean Medicine, people have been raising issues related to education of Korean Medicine. The point of issue is 'competence centered education of Korean Medicine' which has set the goal of education of Korean Medicine. To achieve the goal, PBL is considered as a very useful tool. But it is considered that there are limitations to direct application of PBL to Korean Medicine. This study aims to lay out the specific reason for the limitations and to search for solutions to overcome the limitations when applying PBL to Korean Medicine. This study suggests that the combination between PBL and Eui'an might be a sound solution to the aforementioned problem.

Over the past 100 years, since the establishment of the modern medical education system in the early 1900s, the results of extensive field research and practice in North American medical schools and professional education have led the flow of medical education around the world. In this study, the direction of medical education in North America over the past 100 years were examined through major literature review, leading to implications and suggestions for Korean medicine education. The "Medical Education in the United States and Canada" published by the Carnegie Educational Foundation in 1910, which is considered to have laid the foundation for modern health care education, was reviewed. Next, "Educating physician: A Call for Reform of Medical School and Residency", published in 2010, which is known to have proposed a future-oriented goal for the training of medical professionals has been analyzed. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Acquisition and utilization of biomedical knowledge which is the basis of clinical competence, is a basic competency that should be provided to future medical professionals. 2) Beyond education to cultivate clinical competence of individuals directly affecting the medical treatment, various professionalism education programs that capture the specificity of Korean Medicine doctors should be established and strengthened.
