A generator is an internal electrical device, and it is important to reduce generator loss to improve the total efficiency of wind turbines. Some strategies to reduce generator loss using shape optimization and high class silicon steel plate have been proposed, but these methods have the disadvantages of being expensive and difficult to produce. Therefore, a new method is needed for generator loss reduction with minimum cost and easy production. In this paper, a new method is proposed to decrease stator coil loss for generator loss reduction. An optimized flat type copper wire arrangement based on a high capacity generator with multiple flat type copper wires for one turn of the stator coil has been developed using evolution strategy optimization. Also, electromagnetic field analysis was processed using a finite element tool to verify the electromagnetic field characteristics. Moreover, to verify the effect, the proposed method was proved compared with the general arrangement.
