Test Results and Status of development of the urban transit maglev system (UTM-0l) are reported. Maglev Project Team in KIMM, in cooperation with Hyundai Precision Company and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). has successfully finished the second stage development project (1995.5-1998.8) and demonstrated a prototype two vehicle consisted urban maglev train operating in the speed range of 50 km/h. In this paper, we report various test results of the UTM-01 system. present status of quo and future prospect, and what have been done so far to improve the performance of the maglev system overall.

The power steering pump bracket for a passenger car which is mounted on the engine block plays a role to support the inertia forces of the pump and the reaction forces of the belt assembly. The existing bracket which is made of FCD material has some demerits such as heavy weight, lower productivity and lower reliability. Recently, AI alloy bracket has been investigated to overcome these demerits. In this study, Stress analysis and modal analysis for a existing FCD bracket and two type of AI alloy brackets were performed, and strength and natural frequency of them were estimated by using finite element method to accomplish the weight reduction. As a result, the modified shape of AI alloy bracket is proposed, and it has achieved the 45% weight reduction and the improvement of its strength and vibration characteristics.

차내의 압력변동은 터널 주행시 압력파로 인한 터널 내부의 압력 변동이 열차 내부로 전달되는 것으로, 차내부로 유입되는 공기량과 차외부로 유출되는 공기량의 불균형으로 야기된다. 이러한 차내의 압력변동은 그 압력의 절대치와 압력변동 속도에 의해 승객에게 불쾌감을 주는 이명현상을 일으킨다. 이러한 불쾌감을 줄이기 위해 새로운 환기시스템을 설계..제작하여 성능시험을 실시하였다. 이 시스템은 차내.외의 압력차를 감지하여 급.배기 송풍기의 회전수와 제어밸브개도를 조절함으로써 차내의 압력변동을 일정한 범위이하로 제어한다. 성능실험 결과 본 시스템이 차내 압력변동을 제어하여 불쾌감을 주는 이명현상 제거하는데 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 시스템을 350km/h로 달리는 경부고속전철(TGV-K)에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Industrial electrostatic precipitation is a very complex process, which involves multiple-way interaction between the electric field, the fluid flow, and the particulate motion. This paper describes a strongly coupled calculation procedure for the rigorous computation of particle dynamics during electrostatic precipitation. The turbulent gas flow and the particle motion under electrostatic forces are calculated by using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package FLUENT linked to a finite-volume solver for the electric field and ion charge. Particle charge is determined from both local electrical conditions and the cell residence time which the particle has experienced through its path. Particle charge density and the particle velocity are averaged in a control volume to use Lagrangian information of the particle motion in calculating the gas and electric fields. The turbulent particulate transport and the effects of particulate space charge on the electrical current flow are investigated. The calculated results for poly-dispersed particles are compared with those for mono-dispersed particles, and significant differences are demonstrated.

포핏밸브형 2행정 기관의 소기 시스템 형상 변화에 따른 소기유동 및 소기효율의 개선 효과를 해석하기 위해, 각 흡기포트 형상별 소기 유동 가시화와 소기효율 정량화 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 소기시스템의 형상은 기계연구원에서 독자 개발한 RSSV(Rotatable Shrouded Scavenging Valve)의 슈라우드 각도를 변화시켰으며, 소기 효율 정량화를 위해 정상상태하에서 등유와 착색된 물을 사용한 single-cycle method. 동적모사장치(dynamic simulatior)에서
$CO_2$ 와$O_2$ 가스를 사용한 가스추출법(gas sampling method)을 적용하였으며 실제 기관에서의 소기 효율을 측정하기 위해 압력 선도를 해석하였다. 위 실험들의 결과로부터$90^circ$ 슈라우드 밸브가 가장 높은 효율을 가지는 것으로 판명되었으며, 특히 이들 실험방법들은 2행정 엔진 개발에 있어 시간과 비용을 절감하는데 아주 유용한 기법임을 알 수 있었다. -
The ELID(electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding method is a new precision grinding technique with the special electrolytic in-process dressing by metal bonded grinding wheel, fluid, and power supply. It is possible to make a efficient precision machining of hard and brittle materials such as ceramics, hard metals, and quenched steels by using this method, In this study, a new efficient precision grinding method with ELID was attempted for application to the machining and finishing processes of cylindrical structural components. And, we try to develop the cylindrical grinding technique for mirror surface of ceramics, tungsten carbide and SCM steel, and for the high efficiency grinding of machined parts, for example, ball screw shaft. Electrical characteristics of three different wheel grit sizes of #325, #2000 and #4000 were investigated experimentally. ELID grinding method is proved to be useful for mirror surface generation and efficient machining.

A pneumatic control system of compressed air as a working fluid has a variety of advantages such as low price, high respondence, non-explosion and good control performance and thus has many applications in the field of automobile, electronic and semiconductor industry. However, it has a difficulty in contolling a precise position due to quick response of system and compressibility of working fluid and. in particular, shock stress may occur due to an external load, resulting in fracture of a cylinder cap unless cushion device is equipped in the linear actuator. To avoid this, a cushion device should be installed for damping effect of the external load and the supply pressure as well as for decreasing shock stress and vibration caused by high speed rotation. Previous studies include dimensionless analyses and computer simulations of cushion capability and experiments of horizontally-mounted cylinder performances. A new attempt is experimentally made in this study using a vertically-mounted cylinder under an operation condition of 4, 5 and 6 (bar) as supply pressure and 40, 70 and 100 (kgf) as external load. It turns out that the cushion pressure is mainly a function of the external load rather than the supply pressure. The cushion characteristics was also revealed in the meter-in circuit.

This paper deals with the design and analysis of a beating cam. The beating device of a high speed rapier loom, weaving fabric by completion of warp-weft patterns, is driven by double cam type on the same axis. As the double cam, coupled with two cams, performs the mutual conjugate motion, the double cam must be very preciously designed for smooth. For the shape design of a double cam, an instant velocity center method is proposed. This method can determine the cam profile from the contact conditions of the cam and roller follower and the velocity relationships at the instant velocity center. And the practical applicability was verified by developing “DISKCAM of a CAD program. As the results in this paper, the shapes of two cams, which are in the conjugate motion, are designed by instant velocity center method. We applied 8-order polynominals for the beating as displace¬ment curves for shape determination of double cams. The data of displacement, velocity, and acceleration of beating cam can be used adjust in accurate operation and to develope an advanced beating device.

This study discusses the developement of hydraulic rotary actuator design technology for industrial machinery and earthmoving equipment. The lubrication and wear analysis of sliding components of the machinery are very important parameters to strength the design technique. The analysis and wear test are performed for the selected materials of the above mentioned coupled sliding members. The can be used to select the better combinations of sliding components.

Offshore of Sakhalin Island is one of potential oil and gas development fields in Russia. American and Japanese companies are actively participating in the developments. They plan to export the produced oil and gas to East Asia including Korea, Japan and China. So far, offshore oil and gas field developments are mainly concentrated in the Russian Arctic area such as Barents Sea, Kara Sea and Tinman-Pechora Sea. In this article, the projects under development on the Sakhalin Shelf are reviewed and the environmental conditions in this area are summarized. At the end, the future prospects of the Sakhalin developments are reviewed.

A Shape Function for Meshless Method Using Partition Unity Method and Three-dimensional ApplicationsA shape function for element free Galerkin method is carved from Shepard interpolant of singular weight and consistency condition. Thus present shape function is an interpolation and has no singularities. The shape function is applied to cantilever bending problems and gives good results in comparison with beam theory. Finally it is shown that the coupling with finite element method is made easily without any additional treaties.

A Study of Electronic Generation Technique for Dual Ultrasonic Transmitters for the Scale PreventionIn the case of a boiler, scale is made in the tube by the chemical reactions of Ca and Mg ions contained in the water, and heat transfer rate is reduced because of increasement of heat resistance in the pipe of the heat flow. Thus it brings to reduce the energy efficiency and to make environmental pollution by the use of chemicals for the prevention and removement of scale. In this paper, we discussed the design of electronic generator for dual ultrasonic transmitters and analyzed the effect of scale prevention by ultrasound.

선박이나 산업플랜트에 이용되고 있는 압축공기의 압력이 증가되고 압축기의 경량화 내지는 설치면적을 축소하기 위하여 3단압축을 하므로서 토출압력을 30기압 이상으로 증가할 수가 있다. 그러나 크랭크기구를 갖고있는 공기압축기의 실린더 배열이 복잡하고 고속운전으로 인하여 크랭크축에 연결된 왕복질량과 회전질량에 의한 불평형력이 저감되도록 왕복질량의 적절한 배치와 중량감소를 위해 주철재 피스톤 재질을 알미늄합금으로 교체하고 적절한 평형추 설치와 방진고무의 선택을 검토해야한다. 본 연구에서는 3개의 실린더가 60도 간격으로 배치되는 W형 공기압축기의 진동상태를 측정하고 이를 분석하여 진동저감을 위한 대책으로 평형추 계산이론을 도출하는데 중점을 두었다. 검토대상 공기압축기의 사양은 표1에 보이는 바와 같다.

철강재생 공장내의 전기 용융로에서 발생된 먼지중의 아연 성분을 재생하는 공정인 Waelz 공정에서는 매년 많은 양의 slag가 발생되어진다. 표면이 유리질성인 이 slag의 물리적 특성이 매우 우수하며, 건축 현장에서 골재(모래나 자갈)의 대체물질로 사용 가능한 만큼 높은 안정성을 지니고 있다. 유럽공동체 과 제인 본 연구는 여러 종류의 slag에 대한 용출특성, 물리-화학적 특성조사 및 광물학적 특성 연구에 주안점을 두었다. 용출실험으로는 법규실험과 slag의 재사용 시나리오와 관련된 여러 주요인자에 대한 영향(pH, 산환원 전위, 용매의 화학적특성, L/S비 등)에 대하여 조사되어졌다.

The wear and oxidation resistance of two phase nickel aluminides was investigated. Wear tests of various heat-treated specimens at room temperature and at
$500^{\circ}C$ were performed under no lubricant condition in air by using a ball-on-disk type tribotester. Isothermal oxidation tests were made at$1100^{\circ}C$ in air flowing at the rate of 70cc/min and at$1000^{\circ}C$ in air by using TGA. Experimental results from wear tests showed that nickel aluminide with a higher content of Al had an improved wear resistance at both temperatures. Also the examination of the wear tracks after wear test at both room temperature and$500^{\circ}C$ indicated that regardless of the alloy compositions the wear tracks of the two phase nickel aluminides showed an abrasive type wear The improved oxidation resistance observed in the Ni-34at%Al alloy could to be attributed to the microstructural difference between the aluminides. An accelerated oxidation along the thin layer of$Ni_3AL$ along the grain boundary observed in the microstructure of the Ni-32at%Al aluminide could be attributed to the poor oxidation resistance. -
Fully dense THCN) based carbonitride ceramics were fabricated by pressureless sintering. During sintering, solid solutions were formed from the ceramic ingredients. The ceramics exhibited microvickers hardness of 1560-2050kgf/mm2, fracture toughness of 3.0-5.4 MPa
$m^(1/2)$ , and three point flexural strength of 645-1072 MPa. Some of the ceramics were shaped in a cutting tool, and the cutting performance was evaluated. In case of cutting SCM440 alloy steel, the ceramics showed better performance than the commercially available alumina-titanium carbide ceramic cutting tool. Considering the excellent productivity of pressureless sintering compared with other densification methods and their cutting performance, this new class of ceramics are very promising for wear resistant applications. -
The corrosion failure analysis for the heating pipeline of apartment was performed. Usually, the heating pipe was layed in the concrete. However, it was known that the corrosion problems could be induced by admixture containing chlorine such as set accelerant. antifreezer and so on. Therefore the new construction method using stone ash instead of concrete was attempt to solve these problems. However water leaking accidents by corrosion occurred after 1 month from the completion of the apartment. In this paper, the reason of corrosion failure was investigated by the field study and laboratory analysis in many aspects.

In order to investigate the interfacial structure between TiN and iron nitride, an AISI 4140 steel was nitrided to form a layer of thickness 15$\mum$ by DC ion nitriding, then the surface was bombarded with Ti ions and subsequently coated a TiN film of 5$\mum$ by arc ion plating method. The interfacial microstructure between TiN and iron nitride was characterized by optical microscope, SEM and XRD. So called black layer was observed in the duplex treatment. It was resulted from the decomposition of iron nitride during the bombardment. Its thickness was increased with increasing bombardment time at high bias voltage. But the thickness was greatly decreased when the iron nitride was bombarded with a nitrogen gas or at a reduced bias voltage. The adhesion strength of the top TiN coating was decreased with increasing thickness of the black layer. Furthermore, the reduced adhesion strength in this system was discussed in view of the interfacial structural relationship between TiN and iron nitride. -
비파괴평가의 대상이 되는 소재나 부품은 관련 표준시험편을 이용하여 평가되고, 표준시험편은 평가대상과 동일 또는 유사한 재질로 제작되어야 한다고 규정하고 있다. 따라서 비파괴평가가 요구되는 소재나 부품을 생산, 외국에 수출하기 위해서는 반드시 공인된 설비와 품질관리 체계로부터의 인증이 선행되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 초음파를 이용한 항공기용 Udimet 720Li 디스크의 비파괴평가를 위하여 ASTM에 규정되어 있는 4340강 초음파 표준시험편의 적용타당성을 제시하였다. 현미경 시험을 통하여 Udimet 720Li 합금의 미세조직을 규명하고, 고출력 초음파 분석시스템을 이용한 펄스의 위상값을 측정하는 방법으로 4340강 표준시험편 및 Udimet 720Li 합금의 초음파 속도와 감쇠값을 구하였다. 결론적으로 4340강 초음파 표준시험편이 Udimet 720Li 디스크의 평가를 위한 표준시험편으로 사용될수 있음을 증명하였다.

Today’s information technology departments face a dilemma to create a competitive advantage for the organization by developing. deploying, and managing distributed applications that scale across the LAN, WAN, and Internet, while preserving investments in systems. Applications, information. IT organizations are today being asked to build the future, without breaking systems that maintain the current business. A possible answer to this dilemma is the implementation of a multi-tier distributed computing architecture. Multi-tier architecture has the potential to provide better, more timely information across the enterprise at a lower cost than the current combination of PC LAN, two-tier client/server, or mainframe applications that have been developed in most organizations. In this paper, we implement management information system based on distributed object middleware using multi-tier distributed computing architecture. This system uses Microsoft's implementation of DCOM/ActiveX and provides easily accessible web interface to the system users.
