Aim & Scope
"The Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography (JKSGPC) is the of the JKSGPC is to publish original research articles covering wide range of topics in state-of-the-art surveying, geodesy, GPS/GNSS, photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS/LIS, digital mapping, and other geospatial information technologies. Contributions that deal with technical advancements in instrumentation, novel or improved methodology of analysis, or innovative applications of these technologies in various fields of geoinformatics are especially encouraged. The JKSGPC follows the open access journal policy. All contents of the JKSGPC are freely available in the web. "

The purpose of this study is to make out a history of the coastline deformation with annual aerial photos of the target area and to suggest an efficient method for interpreting the coastline deformation. First, there were difficulties in obtaining annual aerial photos of an identical area as well as collecting periodical datum because of too much change of the real area during more than 27 years. Besides the past aerial photo is inferior to the latest one in quality. So there is nothing but to exclude an accuracy evaluation of the ortho photo. Taken into account the extent of the coastline change for 27 years is more than 10M and the all errors of the ortho image is included in this extent, both an accuracy and an error are ignored. The result of this study show that the coastline in the sea area of Namhangjin maintain advanced forward the ocean and keeps on moving with maintaining fairly wider shape of balance beach. Also The coastline deformation off l㎞ from the estuary is greatly irregular, which means the erosion of the sea in this area is in progress. The latest data being the aerial photo in 1996, it is difficult to find out the current conditions of a coastal erosion. However, considered the construction of a breakwater in Anmok Harbor is going on, the beach erosion becomes more accelerative recently. The aerial photos of the present Namhangjin's situation will make it possible to understand the history of the coastline change more accurately.

For GIS to land and sea in Korea, GIS on land was almost completed with big cities by NGIS(National Geographic Information System) business. However, MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System) being constructed by the National Oceanographic Research Institute is still constructing geography information and definition of attribute information and real condition. We are being studied on research to get maximized the ripple effect linking GPS and Navigation techniques on GIS. GPS in accuracy is divided into navigation and precise surveying equipment. Now, GPS technology has been developed very much and low price GPS equipments are introducing. But expense on GPS equipment is high yet. Therefore, GPS equipment for navigation is used on cheap GPS equipment in a car or ship. In this paper, the author used algorithm to convert ellipsoid coordinate between WGS84 and Bessel ellipsoid and to analyze map projection between BESSEL ellipsoid and UTM plane coordinate system. And the author developed ship navigation system with cheap GPS equipment using algorithm of ellipsoid conversion and map projection. The author proposed the necessity on constructing MGIS to manage many ships.

This study aims to construct a management system of road position information as part of the build-up to a maintenance and management system of highways. First, information on the positions of the roads were obtained by a real-time kinematic satellite surveying, and then the degree of accuracy was analyzed in comparison with the data of the existing design drawings. The linear coordinates of road center line obtained by using RTK GPS showed about 7.6-13.2cm errors in X and Y directions in the case of the national road No.2 section, and about 8.4-9.2cm errors in the case of local road No.1045 section. These errors were within the tolerance scope regulated by the TS survey, and could be practically used. In the case of vertical alignment, there were about 6.2cm errors in the Z direction in local road No.1045 section. Aerial photographs are normally used in producing numerical maps, and it can be practically used because the tolerance scope of the elevation control point is l0cm when the scale of aerial photographs is 1/1000. The management system of road position information, utilizing Object-Oriented Programming(OOP), was built having the data acquired in this way as the attribute data. The system developed in this way can enable us to spot the positions of road facilities, the target of management with ease, to easily update the data in case of changes in the positions of roads and road facilities, and to manage the positions of roads and road facilities more effectively.

Rigorous sensor and dynamic modeling techniques are required if spatial information is to be accurately extracted from video imagery. First, a mathematical model for an uncalibrated video camera and a description of a bundle adjustment with added parameters, for purposes of general block triangulation, is presented. This is followed by the application of invariance-based techniques, with constraints, to derive initial approximations for the camera parameters. Finally, dynamic modeling using the Kalman Filter is discussed. The results of various experiments with real video imagery, which apply the developed techniques, are given.

Every year, several typhoons hit the Korean peninsula and cause severe damage. For the prevention and accurate estimation of these damages, real time or almost real time flood information is essential. Because of weather conditions, images taken by optic sensors or LIDAR are sometimes not appropriate for an accurate estimation of water areas during typhoon. In this case SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images which are independent of weather condition can be useful for the estimation of flood areas. To get detailed information about floods from satellite imagery, accurate classification of water areas is the most important step. A commonly- and widely-used classification methods is the ML(Maximum Likelihood) method which assumes that the distribution of brightness values of the images follows a Gaussian distribution. The distribution of brightness values of the SAR image, however, usually does not follow a Gaussian distribution. For this reason, in this study the ANN (Artificial Neural Networks) method independent of the statistical characteristics of images is applied to the SAR imagery. RADARS A TSAR images are primarily used for extraction of water areas, and DEM (Digital Elevation Model) is used as supplementary data to evaluate the ground undulation effect. Water areas are also extracted from KOMPSAT image achieved by optic sensors for comparison purpose. Both ANN and ML methods are applied to flat and mountainous areas to extract water areas. The estimated areas from satellite imagery are compared with those of manually extracted results. As a result, the ANN classifier performs better than the ML method when only the SAR image was used as input data, except for mountainous areas. When DEM was used as supplementary data for classification of SAR images, there was a 5.64% accuracy improvement for mountainous area, and a similar result of 0.24% accuracy improvement for flat areas using artificial neural networks.

This paper presents the benefits of using close-range digital photogrammetric techniques for measuring the roughness of rock surfaces, using digital stereo images obtained from a Rolleiflex 6006 metric camera. To precisely measure surface roughness, we researched on how to use the flat and curved reference surface obtained from geometrically corrected digital images of the rock surface by using the least squares method. To test the precision of the proposed technique, the surface roughness has been measured between the reference surface and sample areas of very smooth-surfaced rock. Then the results were compared with the measurements obtained from a laser sensor profilometer.

As the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-I (KOMPSAT-1) satellite can roll tilt up to
$\pm$ 45$^{\circ}$ , we have analyzed some KOMPSAT-1 EOC images taken at different tilt angles for this study. The required ground coordinates for bundle adjustment and geometric accuracy are obtained from the digital map produced by the National Geography Institution, at a scale of 1:5,000. Followings are the steps taken for the tilting angle of KOMPSAT-1 to be present in the evaluation of geometric accuracy of each different stereo image data: Firstly, as the tilting angle is different in each image, the characteristic of satellite dynamic must be determined by the sensor modeling. Then the best sensor modeling equation should be determined. The result of this research, the difference between the RMSE values of individual stereo images is mainly due to quality of image and ground coordinates instead of tilt angle. The bundle adjustment using three KOMPSAT-1 stereo pairs, first degree of polynomials for modeling the satellite position, were sufficient. -
The merging of different scales or multi-sensor image data is becoming a widely used procedure of the complementary nature of various data sets. Ideally, the merging method should not distort the characteristics of the high-spatial and high-spectral resolution data used. To present an effective merging method for survey of reclaimed land using the high-resolution (6.6 m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSA T-l) and the multispectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data, this paper compares the results of Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods. The comparison is made by statistical and visual evaluation of three-color combination images of IHS and PCA results based on spatial and spectral characteristics. The use of MODIS bands 1, 2, and 3 with a contrast stretched EOC panchromatic image as a substitute for intensity was found to be particularly effective in this study.

We have seen rapid changes in road systems and networks in urban areas due to fast urbanization and increased traffic demands. As a result, many researchers have put greater importance on extraction, correction and updating of information about road systems. Also, by using the various data on road systems and its condition, we can manage our road more efficiently and economically. Furthermore, such information can be used as input for digital map and GIS analysis. In this research, we used a high resolution aerial photo of the roads in Seongnam area. First, we applied the top-hat filter to the area of interest so that the road markings could be extracted in an efficient manner. The lane separation lines were selected, considering the shape similarity between the selected lane separation line and reference data. Next, we extracted the roads in the urban area using the aforementioned road marking. Using this technique, we could easily extract roads in urban area in semi-automatic way.

To manage national territory and cadastral data efficiently, accuracy and cost-efficiency in cadastral boundary surveying is inevitable. The efficient management of cadastral data is a very important element in national land management. Survey techniques are being introduced. Recently, improvements in survey techniques have been made with the development of satellite surveying, Allowing accurate and fast surveys. If we can calculate the output accurately in real-time in survey fields, it will open a new method in cadastral detail surveying. According to the classification on Law of cadastral surveying, Cadastral surveying can be divided into cadastral control point surveying and cadastral detail surveying. The control point survey can be divided into cadastral triangulation surveying and cadastral traverse surveying. The detailed survey is usually perform by plane surveying. Among these, cadastral detail surveying will be reviewed in this study. In this study, the combination of the satellites, such as US managed GPS and Russian managed GLONASS was used. In the satellite survey in downtown, data interruption symptoms arose(according to the mask angle of the satellite). Therefore; we combined the satellites to get date more accurately. A block of Haewoondae New City in Busan, Korea, which has Numerical Cadastral Law was selected as the sample area for this study. Block II and III are surrounded by high rise apartments. One side of Block I and IV is level ground and the other side is full of high rise apartments. Especially, Block II is surrounded by high rise apartment houses with 20 meters width. In the results of the study Block II did not satisfy the allowable precision, while Block I, II and IV satisfied the allowable precision of the enforcement regulations of Cadastral Law. Therefore, it is judged that the traditionally used Total Station method should be used for supplementary survey on Block II, in stead.
