The Relationship between Feelings of Accomplishment and Life Satisfaction of the Elderly: Mediating Effect of Satisfaction with Personal Relationship

노인의 성취감과 삶의 만족의 관계: 대인관계 만족의 매개효과

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of satisfaction with personal relationship in the relationship between feelings of accomplishment and life satisfaction of the elderly. For this, 9,526 older persons aged over 65 years among respondents of 2023 Social Survey data were analyzed. Study results showed that first, feelings of accomplishment of the elderly had positive effects on life satisfaction. That is, higher level of feelings of accomplishment increased the level of life satisfaction. Second, satisfaction with personal relationship of the elderly had positive effects on life satisfaction. That is, higher level of satisfaction with personal relationship increased the level of life satisfaction. Third, satisfaction with personal relationship had significant mediating effect in the relationship between feelings of accomplishment and life satisfaction of the elderly. That is, higher level of feelings of accomplishment increased the level of satisfaction with personal relationship, leading to increased level of life satisfaction. Results of this study show that there is a need to develop interventions to increase satisfaction with personal relationship and life satisfaction by expanding opportunities for having feelings of accomplishment of the elderly.

본 연구는 노인의 성취감이 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향에서 대인관계 만족의 매개효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 사회조사 2023년도 자료의 응답자 중 65세 이상 노인 9,526명을 대상으로 하여 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 노인의 성취감은 삶의 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 성취감이 높을수록 삶의 만족 정도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 노인의 대인관계 만족은 삶의 만족에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 대인관계 만족 정도가 높을수록 삶의 만족이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대인관계 만족은 노인의 성취감과 삶의 만족의 관계에서 유의미한 부분 매개효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 노인의 성취감이 높을수록 대인관계 만족 정도는 높아지며 이는 삶의 만족 정도를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 노인이 성취감을 느낄 수 있는 기회를 확대함으로써 대인관계 만족과 삶의 만족을 증진시킬 수 있는 개입 방안이 마련될 필요가 있음을 보여주고 있다.
