Abstract

The structural design algorithm for column members of hanok considering rotational stiffness was developed and this algorithm was implemented by software system to help automatic structural design of hanok. The column of hanok were classified into four types according to their geometric position, and the developed system can be applied to both single story and two-storied hanok. The developed algorithm is composed of as the following sequences, 1) define framing type, 2) define material properties of wood, 3) define column type, 4) define section size and connection conditions, 5) define load conditions, 6) define frame information, 7) calculate tributary loading area and member forces, 9) define modification factors, 10) calculate design allowable stresses, and check safety. The concept of moment delivery ratio was introduced and this helped to consider bending moment in structural design of columns. The developed system was applied to the test-bed hanok and the result showed that it has sufficient field-applicability.
