Abstract

This study suggests for users to evaluate the possible differences between a product's stated value of thermal performance and its actual effectiveness in practice. By examining the original method for measuring thermal performances of windows, we could provide the base of further research. To analyze the thermal performances of windows that have already been installed into a building structure, this study employs four variables: the inner and outer window pane surface temperatures, and the inner and outer room temperatures. Producing a constant degree variable when visually represented as a graph, we were able to apply a dimensionless constant to define a new quality factor "P", which can be applied to all glass without considering the directional aspect of the thermal heat flow. Through this study, we expect to support users to characterize a product's thermal performance efficiency, as well as the possible damaged from even if they are not immediately recognized by the naked eye.
