A Study on the anxiety consciousness Poetry of Park In-hwan

박인환 시에 나타난 불안의식 연구

This study presents an investigation into the poetic manifestationpatterns of consciousness of anxiety in the poetry of Park In-hwan(1926～1956) with a focus on it throughout his works. Park was a memberof Hubanki (The Latter Half), a literary coterie that played a pivotalrole in the literary campaign in the 1950s, and left huge milestones inthe history of contemporary Korean literature. However, compared withKim Su-yeong, who was his contemporary writer and received highevaluations, he had been undervalued. It is no exaggeration to say thatKim Su-yeong, one of the symbols of participation poetry in the 1960s,criticized him severely, calling him "a worshipper of cheap and frivolousvogues" and "secular modernist" and that his harsh criticism garneredsympathy and had negative influences. As a matter of fact, evaluationsof Park's literary activities have developed in ambivalent viewsincluding positive and negative ones with a distance from thesuggestive aspect of Korean literature rather than pursuing aestheticvalues.Anxiety is one of the most fundamental human emotions. Emergingin a process of internal emotions clashing with each other, thissymptom can cause mental suffering and physical symptoms beyond thenormal scope. The sentiments of anxiety such as despair, depression,and anger found in Park's poetry lasted in repetition throughout hisworks from the early days, especially right after the Korean War, to hisdeath. Anxiety that was manifested along with fear for death after thewar formed a base of his life and contributed to his tragic view of the world. Putting an emphasis on it, the present study focused on theconsciousness of anxiety and death that worked in a dominant fashionin his poetic texts and examined it in three layers: First, The Afterconsideration of the meaning and characteristics of anxiety, 'realanxiety' investigated with a focus on the work of the pattern. Second, centered in the consciousness ofanxiety symptoms work on damaged self manifestation 'moral anxiety'patterns was investigated. Third, the classified miserable of Korea War 'uncanny' the ('strangefear') to embodied works with 'neurotic anxiety' aspect explored.One of the prerequisites in research on literary works is text analysis,but the present study linked it with Park's own life partially and shedlight on depressive landscapes carved in his inside as wounds, whichwas because the approach helped to discover his view of the world, thesituations of the times, and the thematic consciousness of his entireworks. The study examined how his consciousness of anxiety and itselements, which were embodied in his works, were realized in his worksand found that the anxiety inherent in his poetry was a wound causedby his disharmony with the world. As a deviation from the wound, Parklived a dark and impoverished life but never stopped "writing a poem"until his death. Further researches and evaluations of him are expectedto go on in order to re-illuminate the history of Korean literature.

이 연구는 박인환(1926～1956) 시에 나타난 불안의식에 초점을 두고 그 시적 발현양상에 대하여 고찰하였다. 박인환은 1950년대 문예운동의 중심축을 이루었던 <후반기> 동인의 일원이었으며 한국 현대문학사에 커다란 이정표를 남긴 시인이다. 그러나 동시대에 작품 활동을 한 김수영의 고평가에 비하여 저평가 되고 있다. 그것은 1960년대 참여시의 상징으로 대표되는 김수영의 “경박하고 값싼 유행의 숭배자”요, “세속적인 모더니스트”라는 혹평이 공감대를 형성하면서 부정적으로 작용했다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 실제로 박인환의 문학 활동에 대한 평가는 미학적인 가치를 추구하기보다는 한국 문학의 시사적인 측면에서 거리를 유지하면서 긍정과 부정의 양가적인 시선으로 전개되었다. 불안은 인간의 가장 근원적인 정서이다. 내면의 감정이 충돌하는 과정에서 나타나는 이 증상은 정상적 범위를 넘어서면 정신적 고통과 신체적 증상을 초래한다. 박인환의 시에서 발견되고 있는 절망, 우울, 분노 등의 불안의 정조는 작품 초기부터 타계할 때까지 반복되어 나타난다. 전란 이후 죽음의 공포와 함께 발현되는 불안의식은 박인환의 삶의 근간을 이루며 비극적인 세계관을 형성하는데 한 몫을 하였다. 본고에서는 이에 주안점을 두고 박인환 시 텍스트에서 지배적으로 작용하는 불안의식을 세 가지 층위로 살펴보았다. 첫째, <불안의 발생론적 요인과 시적 발현 양상>에서는 불안의 의미와 특성을 고찰한 뒤, ‘현실적 불안’ 양상의 글에 초점을 두고 살펴보았다. 둘째, <증상으로서의 불안의식>에서는 훼손된 자아의 불안의식이 증상으로 발현된 작품을 ‘도덕적 불안’ 양상에 중심을 두고 고찰했다. 셋째, <전망부재의 불안의식>에서는 한국전쟁의 참담함이 ‘언캐니’(‘낯선 두려움’)하게 형상화된 작품을 ‘신경증적 불안’ 양상으로 분류하여 탐구했다. 문학작품 연구에서 반드시 선행되어야 하는 것이 텍스트 분석이지만 부분적으로 박인환의 삶과 연계시켜 내면에 상처로 각인되어 있는 우울한 풍경들을 조명하였다. 그것은 작가의 세계관과 시대적 상황, 그리고 작품 전체의 주제의식을 발견할 수 있기 때문이다. 작품에서 형상화되고 있는 불안의식과 그 요소들이 시에서 어떻게 구현되고 있는지 살펴본 바에 의하면 박인환 시에 내재해 있는 불안의식은 세계와의 불화로 비롯된 상처이다. 그는 이 상처의 파생으로 어둡고 피폐한 삶을 살았으나 비극적인 삶을 마감할 때까지 ‘시 쓰기’를 멈추지 않았다. 앞으로 한국문학사의 재조명을 위해서 그에 대한 연구와 평가가 계속 이루어지길 기대한다
