Analysis of IPTV VOD Usage Behavior of 2 to 7 Years Old Children and Mother's Perceptions about Their Child's Usage

Abstract

This paper provides a database about the IPTV VOD usage behavior of children as well as mother's perception at home. We analyzed the correlation of mother's background with IPTV VOD using time of children through a survey. We analyzed how does the mother's background influences usage time of IPTV VOD for children through a survey. The survey was conducted by 500 mothers who have two to seven years old children with IPTV users in Korea. Compilation of the data reveals that 1) 36.6% of the children have watched IPTV VOD for the first time at two years old, 93.4% have encountered by family members among them. 40.8% of users have played IPTV VOD for children four days a week and the main genre was the animation. 2) The main reason for watching VOD was by the needs of their children, but the 66% of mothers concern for an excessive level of watching. 3) educational background of mother and monthly house income were significantly correlated with the usage time of IPTV VOD for children.

본 연구는 최근 가입자가 급격하게 늘어나고 있는 IPTV를 대상으로 가정에서 IPTV 유아 동영상 이용 실태와 자녀의 IPTV 유아 동영상 이용에 대한 어머니의 인식에 대해 살펴보고, 어머니의 배경 변인이 자녀의 IPTV 유아 동영상 이용 시간에 영향을 주는지 여부를 분석해보았다. 이를 통해 유아 자녀의 IPTV 유아 동영상 이용 현황을 진단하고, 주 양육자인 어머니가 IPTV를 좀 더 교육적으로 활용할 수 있는 지도방안을 마련하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자, 전국의 IPTV 이용자 중 2세~7세 유아 자녀를 둔 어머니 500명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과로는 첫째, 자녀가 IPTV 유아 동영상을 처음 이용한 시기는 만 1세가 36.6%로 가장 높게 나타나 영아 때부터 IPTV를 보여주는 것을 알 수 있고, 가정에서 IPTV 유아 동영상을 이용하는 가정이 93.4%로 매우 높게 나타났고, 유아 동영상을 일주일에 4일 이상 이용하는 경우가 40.8%로 높게 나타나 매우 많이 활용하는 것으로 조사되었다. 이용 시간을 보면 주중에는 주로 오후에, 주말에는 주로 오전에 이용하는 경향을 보여주었고, 유아 동영상의 주 이용 장르는 애니메이션이 43.4%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, IPTV 유아 동영상 이용에 대한 어머니의 인식에 대한 조사 결과, 가정에서 IPTV 유아 동영상을 이용하는 가장 큰 이유는 자녀가 원하기 때문이라고 응답한 경우가 59.6%, 유아 동영상 시청시 어머니들이 가장 우려하는 사항은 과도한 TV의존이 66.0%로 조사되어, 대부분의 어머니들은 자녀의 TV의존에 대한 염려를 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 유아 자녀의 요구에 의해 IPTV 유아 동영상을 보여주고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 어머니의 학력 및 월평균 가계소득과 IPTV 유아 동영상이용 시간과 유의한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
