Analysis on the Character shown in Frame Position

프레임 위치에서 나타난 등장인물 분석

The meaning of things appeared in the frame vary according to how they look in a shot. Especially, position of frame shows how a form becomes a content in quality. This has a large impact on communication with audiences, reminds them a special feeling or atmosphere toward an object and plays a suggestive role for things that shows up. Thus, this study aimed to investigate how symbolisms appeared in the frame position are shown in the relation among characters' narrative, personality and conflict and understand correlation between frame position and characters accordingly. As an object to be analyzed, this study selected which was played with narratives of couples with different personalities. The results of analysis shows that it is deeply associated with couples' narrative, which means that trauma or the severance of relations between a couple is shown on left side, whereas a positive and future-oriented couple was mainly shown on right side and the rate of being situated in the center turned out to be high according to the power relations of love. Based on the comparison between symbolism appeared according to the frame position and narratives and traumas that various characters have, this study found that frame position is playing an important role in composing characters' personality.

프레임에 나타난 사물들이 하나의 쇼트 안에서 어떻게 보이는 가에 따라 그 의미가 달라진다. 특히 프레임의 위치는 형식이 어떻게 실질적으로 내용이 되는가를 보여주고 있다. 이는 관객과의 커뮤니케이션에 많은 영향을 미치게 되며 대상에 대한 특별한 느낌이나 분위기를 연상시키기도 하고 앞으로 일어날 일에 대해 암시적인 역할을 하는 것이다. 그러므로 프레임 위치에서 나타난 상징성들은 등장인물들의 내러티브와 성격과 갈등과 관계에 어떻게 나타나는 지 살펴보고, 그에 따라 프레임 위치와 등장인물들의 상관관계를 파악하고자 하였다. 분석할 대상으로는 각기 다른 성격 연인들의 내러티브를 가지고 진행해 나간 <신사의 품격>을 선정하였다. 분석 결과, 등장인물들은 프레임의 윗부분에 주로 나타났는데 프레임 위 중앙(UC)은 자기주장이 강한 캐릭터가 주로 나타났고, 위 오른쪽(UR)은 자신의 입장을 뭔가 표현하기 불편한 캐릭터들이 상대방을 주로 바라보거나 상대방에게 공격을 하거나 트러블이 생기는 경향을 보였다. 위 왼쪽(UL)은 상대방에게 주도적으로 어떠한 행동을 당하거나 자신이 숨기고 있던 마음을 읽히거나 하는 캐릭터가 위치하였다. 전반적으로 긍정적인 캐릭터는 우측에 나타난 반면, 부정적이거나 불가항력적인 캐릭터는 좌측에 나타났다. 여성과 남성으로 분류해서 위치를 살펴본 결과는 남성에 비해 여성이 위쪽 중앙(UC)에 위치하는 장면이 적었다. 중앙에서 남성은 여성에게 주도적인 행동을 하거나 자신의 마음을 보여주는 장면에서 나타났으나 여성은 남성에 의해 행동을 당하는 장면이나 자신의 마음을 상대방에게 보여주는 것이 아니라 자신의 마음을 관객과 소통하는 장면에서 사용되었다. 커플의 내러티브와 관련이 깊게 나타났는데 커플간의 관계에 트라우마나 단절되는 관계에서는 좌측 위치에 많이 나타났고, 긍정적이며 미래지향적인 커플은 우측에 주로 나타났으며, 사랑의 권력 관계에 따라 중앙에 위치하는 비율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이렇게 프레임 위치에 따라 나타난 상징성과 다양한 캐릭터들이 가지고 있는 내러티브와 트라우마들을 비교한 결과 프레임 위치가 캐릭터의 성격을 구성하는데 중요한 역할을 하고 있었다.
