Abstract

PP fiber and fabric were dyed with several disperse dyes without any auxiliaries in SCF-$CO_2$. The solubility of the dyes used and dyeability of PP in SCF-$CO_2$ were investigated. The partition coefficient (K) between PP and SCF-$CO_2$ was calculated at various temperature and pressure. Color fastness of dyed fabrics were also investigated. The solubilites of dyes increased exponentially with increasing $CO_2$density. At constant density, the solubility of dyes increased with rising temperature. The rate of dyeing were very high and almost constant under the different dyeing conditions. The equilibrium dye adsorption increased with rising pressure and temperature dyeing conditions. The equilibrium dye adsorption increased with rising pressure and temperature. It is clearly proved that K decreases with increasing pressure and increases with rising temperature. Log K decreased linearly with $CO_2$density, log $\rho$. Therefore, high affinity of the dye for the fibers in SCF-$CO_2$dyeing system was much differnt from solvent dyeing with extremely small affinity of the dye for the fibers.
