In this study the design of a roller with uniformly distributed pressure in a mangle system was investigated by using the simplified beam analysis and finite element method. The roller in mangle system consists of support beams and a circular cylinder. Particularly, since deflection of a cylinder will affect the fabric property, the cylinder design insuring uniform pressure is very important. The improved cylinder model was obtained by changing the support type of the beam and the support location. As a result, the design parameters at which the deflection curve of the cylinder was nearly uniform was found. The beam analysis method used to find the deflection curve of the simplified beam model of mangle system was an efficient method from the viewpoint of calculation time as compared with finite element method.
