  • In this paper, level instrument is implemented using beat frequency for distance measurement which means the difference between Tx and Rx signal frequency from FMCW Radar Level Transmitter. Beat frequency is analyzed through Fast Fourier Transform of which frequency precision can be improved by applying Zoom FFT. Distance precision is improved from 146.5[mm] to 5[mm] using the advantage of Zoom FFT which can raise the frequency precision without changing the sampling frequency or FFT point number to be fixed in the beginning of designing signal processing. Also, measurement error can be reduced within 2[mm] by incresing the FFT points using the method of Spline interpolation. For verifying the effectiveness of this Zoom FFT to FMCW Radar Level Transmitter, test bench is made to measure the distance for every 1[mm] between 700[mm] and 2000[mm] and measurement error can be checked in the range of ${\pm}2$[mm].

  • This paper presents design of a FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) level meter as well as simulation result of the designed system. The system is designed to measure maximum range of 20m since FMCW radar can be used for measuring short range distance. The distance is measured by analyzing the beat signal which is generated as result of mixing transmitting signal with the reflected received signal. The Fast Fourier Transform is applied to analyze the beat signal for calculating the displacement and Zoom FFT technique is used to minimize measurement error as well as increase the resolution of the measurement. The resolution of the measurement of the designed system in this paper is 2.2mm and bandwidth of 1.024GHz is used for simulation. Thus the simulation results are analyzed and compared in various conditions in order to get a comprehensive idea of frequency resolution and displacement resolution.

  • In this paper, FMCW type radar level transmitter using correlation analysis method is implemented for precise distance measurement of cargo tank. FMCW type radar level transmitter is the device for distance measurement which calculates the distance by analyzing the beat frequency, that is, the frequency difference between Tx and RX signal from radar antenna using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT), but compensated algorithm like Zoom FFT is needed for the improvement of the frequency precision because the frequency precision of FFT is limited depending on sampling frequency and the number of sampling data. In case of Zoom FFT, the number of sampling data and noisy signal are the main factor influencing the measurement accuracy of Zoom FFT like FFT. Therefore, in order to overcome the limited environment and achieve the precise measurement, correlation coefficient is used for the distance measurement and the errors of measurement are verified to be in the range of ${\pm}1mm$.

  • In this paper, it is presented a Real FFT for the FMCW radar distance measurement with high resolution. The high distance resolution needs the measurement of the accurate beat frequency. To improve the distance resolution, zoom fft, decimation, digital low pass filter and zero padding method are used. The simulation results using the Matlab show ${\pm}5mm$ of distance resolution and the measuring range is up to 35meter.

  • This paper proposed the acoustic signal processing techniques, which are applicable even in the shallow river, and will enhance the frequency resolution of the ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current profiler). ADCP is a device that measures the velocity of a moving fluid. ADCP, in general, can be operated at ~300 Khz of center frequency due to no depth limit in the sea. However, it can hardly be used due to water depth of 30cm or shallower during the dry season in the river. Therefore, existing signal processing methods are not suitable to use in the shallow river. We are proposing an alternative acoustic signal processing method using Zoom FFT. Simulation results show that errors are reduced ${\pm}62\;cm/s$ in theory, and ${\pm}93\;cm/s$ in the experiment. The existing algorithm could not estimate the current speed at the shallow river below 30 cm, but proposed algorithm estimated the current speed that was faster than 20 cm/s at the shallow river below 30 cm.

  • Current discriminating technique of rice variety is known to be not objective till this time because of depending on naked eye of well trained inspector. DNA finger print method based on genetic character of rice has been indicated inappropriate for on-site application, because the method need much labor and skilled expert. The purpose of this study was to develops the identification technique of polished rice varieties using CCD camera images. To minimize the noise of the captured image, thresholding and median filtering were carried out, and edge was extracted from the image data. Image data after pretreatment of normalize and FFT(fast fourier transform) were used for library model and feedforward backpropagation neural network model. Image processing technique using CCD camera could discriminate the variety of rice with high accuracy in case of quite different rice of shape, but the accuracy was reached at 85% in the similar shape of rice.

  • The microwave Radar used for special purposes in the past is being applied in various areas due to the technological advancement and cost reduction, and is particularly applied to autonomous driving in the automobile field. The FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) Radar can acquire level information of liquid in vessel based on the beat frequency obtained by continuously transmitting and receiving signals by modulating the frequency over time. However, for cryogenic fluids with small impedance differences between liquid medium and gas medium, such as liquid nitrogen and liquid hydrogen, it is difficult to apply a typical Radar-based level meter. In this study, we develop an 80 GHz FMCW Radar for level measurement of cryogenic fluids with small impedance differences between media and analyze its characteristics. Here, because of the low intrinsic impedance difference, most of the transmitted signal passes through the liquid nitrogen interface and is reflected at the bottom of the vessel. To solve this problem, a radar measurement algorithm was designed to detect multiple targets and separate the distance signal to the bottom of the vessel in order to estimate the precise position on the liquid nitrogen interface. Thereafter, performance verification experiments were performed according to the liquid nitrogen level using the developed radar level meter.

  • A commercial flow measurement radar sensor estimates a quantity of flowed water using surface flow rate. In this way, the amount of water flowing per unit time cannot be measured accurately because of using an estimation result and it can't response environmental changes. For more accurate flow measurements we need width of waterway, water level and distance that water moved per unit time. Commonly two sensors are used to measure water level and flow rate. In this paper, we propose a method to simultaneously measure the water level and surface flow velocity using a single FMCW radar sensor and design the transmission waveform. In order to verify the waveform design, received signal is modelled based on transmission waveform. In addition, we consider phenomenons and problems that may occur in signal processing.
