Effects of zinc chloride (Zn) on the immune responses of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were studied by using ICR mice. Mice were divided into 4 groups (10 mice/group), and Zn was given to the mice with i.p. injection at 0.3 mg/kg 5 times a week for 14 days, and 1 hr after Zn administration, LPS was given with i.p. injection at 5 mg/kg twice a week. Mice were immunized and challenged with sheep red blood cells (SRBC). Immunobiological responses were evaluated by humoral, cellular and nonspecific immunity. LPS treatment significantly increased the relative weights of spleen and thymus, hemagglutination titer (HA) and proliferation of splenocytes compared with those in controls, but significantly decreased the body weight gain. Zn treatment significantly increased proliferation of splenocytes and circulating leukocytes compared with those in controls. Combination of Zn and LPS significantly decreased the body weight gain and proliferation of splenocytes compared with those in controls. Combination of Zn and LPS significantly decreased HA and proliferation of splenocytes than in LPS alone. These findings indicate that zinc lowered the humoral immune responses of LPS.
Thioltransferase, also known as glutaredoxin, is an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of a variety of disulfide compounds. In Schizosaccharomyces pombe, two thioltransferases were reported and the cDNA of one of the thioltransferases (thioltransferase-1) was cloned. Using a Northern blot assay, we investigated the thioltransferase transcription in response to various stress conditions. When the culture was shifted to a high temperature, the thioltransferases transcription was not significantly changed compared to the unshifted $30^{\circ}C$ culture. Treatment of zinc chloride to exponentially-growing cells remarkably increased the thioltransferase transcription, whereas the treatment of mercury chloride greatly reduced the transcription. Treatment of hydrogen peroxide and cadmium chloride caused no significant effects on the transcription of the thioltransferase. These results suggest that the transcription of thioltransferase-1 in S. pombe is induced in response to metal stress that is caused by zinc chloride, but not in response to heat stress or oxidative stress that is caused by hydrogen peroxide.
Chloride계 전이금속 촉매의 존재 하에서 ABS/PC/triphenyl phosphate 컴파운드의 열분해 거동을 TGA(thermogravimetric analysis)를 통해서 조사하였다.
5-Alkyl-2(3H)-benzofuranones(3a-e) were prepared from Friedel-Crafts reaction of 4-alkylphenols with methyl 2-chloro-2-(methylthio)acetae(1) followed by the treatment of zinc du st-acetic acid. The reaction of disubstituted phenols with 1 in the presence of stannic chloride afforded 3-methyltWa-2(3H)-benzofuranone derivatives(11a-c), which were readily converted into 2(3H)-benzofuranone derivatives(12a-c) by desulfurization with zinc dust-acetic acid.
Zinc was electrodeposited at temperature from 20$^{\circ}C$ to 60$^{\circ}C$ over the ranges of the current density from 2 to 20 A/dm2 in acid chloride bath. The cathode overpotentials increased with increasing current density and decreasing tem-perature. The (10$.$3)-(10$.$2) preferred orientation developed at cathode overpotentials below about 450mV, the (10$.$3)(10$.$2)-(10$.$1) texture developed at overpotentials between 500mV and 950mV, and the (00$.$1) (10$.$3) texture developed at cathode overpotentials about 1000mV. The (00$.$1) (10$.$3) preferred orientation was also formed at the lower potentials between 400mV and 850mV at temperatures above 40$^{\circ}C$. The preferred orientations of the zinc deposits was discussed was discussed with both cathode overpo-tential and surface energy of deposit lattice planes. The pyramid type of structure with macrostep developed at low cathode overpotentials and the truncated pyramidal type developed at higher overpotenial.
To determine effects of zinc on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines and Iymphokines in tumor-bearing ICR mice, this study has been investigated. Zinc chloride (Zn) at doses of 1 mg/kg was administered orally 30 minutes before i.p. injection of LPS (8 mg/kg) 5 times for 7 days. LPS greatly increased tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-$\alpha$ and interleukin (IL)-1$\beta$, in both serum and splenic supernatants compared with those in controls. However Zn strongly decreased LPS-increased production of TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-1$\beta$ in spleenic supernatants compared with those in controls and insignificantly also reduced in serum. LPS insignificantly decreased IL-2 levels in spleenic supernatants compared with those in controls but significantly increased interferon (IFN)-${\gamma}$ levels. Zn didn't affect IL-2 production in splenic supernatants compared to controls but significantly enhanced the LPS-decreased production of IL-2. Zn significantly increased IFN-${\gamma}$ levels in splenic supernatants compared to controls and did not affect the LPS-increased production of IFN-${\gamma}$. These findings suggest that Zn may strongly attenuate the LPS-induced pathogenesis of proinflammatory cytokines in tumor-bearing state and significantly up-regulate the LPS-induced function of T cells to produce IL-2 with maintaining normally the LPS- increased levels of IFN-${\gamma}$.
It is very important to investigate the sanitary chemical conditions of farmwaters used for cattle breeding in the dairy farms. For this purpose we examined pH, KMnO4 consumption, total hardness, chloride, sulfate, NH3-N, NO3-N, fluoride, lead, iron, manganese, cadmium, copper, zinc and chrome in the farmwaters sampled 2 times(spring and summer)in Choongcheongnam and Kangwon Province. The pH of farmwaters in Choongcheongnam and Kangwon Province was 6.49$\pm$0.09, 6.70$\pm$0.06, total hardness 90.21$\pm$7.07, 64.53$\pm$6.38 mg/ι, consumption of KMnO4 4.13$\pm$0.62, 4.34$\pm$0.26mg/ι, NO3-N 6.51$\pm$0.55, 3.61$\pm$0.58 mg/ι, chloride ion 20.51$\pm$1.99, 5.41$\pm$1.36 mg/ι and sulfate ion 6.61$\pm$1.02, 7.28$\pm$1.30 mg/ι, respectively. But NH3-N was scarcely detected. Fluoride, iron, lead, cadmium, zinc, manganese and chrome were not detected from the tested farmwaters. There was high significance between each other in total hardness, NO3-N, chloride ion and sulfate ion. There was regional and seasonal significance in only NO3-N but only regional significance in total hardness and chloride ion.
The effect of helminthiasis on zinc metabolism was monitored using endogenous $^{65}Zn$ after intraperitoneal injection of 1 g of $^{65}Zn$ as zinc chloride. In the first experiment zinc turnover was investigated in 18 male weanling rats, which were randomly divided into 3 groups. One group was infected with 73 third stage larvae of Nippostrongylus brasiliensis per gram body weight ; the other groups were the pair-fed and ad lib-fed controls. The route of loss of zinc was investigated in the second experiment with the same design using 18 animals with a lower dose of infection (33 larvae per gram body weight). The biological half life of endogenous $^{65}Zn$ was lower (p<0.05) in the infected group as compared to the controls. In the later phase of infection (9th to 16th day) there was reduced retention of $^{65}Zn$ and increased loss (p<0.05) of $^{65}Zn$ from the body though urine and faeces. It was concluded that infection of N. brasiliensis was accompanied by increased loss of endogenous Zn through faeces and urine.
The protective effects of high levels of dietary iron, copper, zinc or protein on lead toxicity were studied In chicks. Growth retardation, reduction of feed intake, anemia and accumulation of lead in the bone and kidney were observed in chicks fed a diet containing 500mg lead as chloride per kg of feed for 42 days. Early changes due to ingested lead were inhibition of red blood cell ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid dehydrase at all doses and no effect of iron, copper, zinc or protein addition were observed. Tibia lead accumulation was reduced in chicks receiving additional dietary iron or zinc compared to the lead only group but increased in chicks given supplementary protein. Decreased body weight gain was overcome by supplementary zinc or protein in chicks fed lead but not by supplementary iron. Overall the results of this study show that lead poisoning can be partly reduced by providing supplementary iron, zinc or protein, but the interaction of these element remained to be elucidated.
