  • This study was carried out investigate the effect of water quality and the kind of media on the in vitro development of 1-cell and stage mouse embryos. $F_1$ hybrid mice were superovulated and timely mated. 1-cell stage and 2-cell stage mouse embryos were recruited and taken into Ham's F-10 or m-KRB media which was made of two of two kinds of water having different quality, highly purified water and tap water. 2-cell stage embryos grew up well in vitro to blastocyst or hatching blastocyst regardless of the composition of culture media, but 1-cell stage mouse embryo didn't develop well to blastocyst or hatching blastocyst in simple media like m-KRB. These results meant in vitro devleopment of 1-cell stage mouse embryo neded complex media like Ham's F-10 which contained abundant protein components. In case of quality control for water, in vitro fertilization program. observation of in vitro development of 2-cell mouse embryos up to blastocyst or hatching blastocyst media such as m-KRB would be efficatious in detecting the difference of water quality.

  • In America, where obesity rate ranks no.1 in the world, the plus size market is rapidly expanding with various American brands adding plus size lines in a way to diversify their products. As obesity is expanding throughout the younger generation, the necessity to develop products according to different characteristics of body shape that can fulfill the needs of young plus size consumers is being emphasized. In this study of young plus size, our focus is on providing wider spectrum of design choices for consumers by analyzing different body shapes, categorizing them, and then identifying the differences of design among them. More specifically, the object of this study is to analyze the elements that differentiate the designs from each other by virtually trying out the same item on avatars of various body shapes. Thus, we can identify the elements that needs to be differentiated according to different body shapes after implementing virtual fitting program on plus size shapes that are rather difficult considering the reality of domestic fashion companies. In this way, we are able to provide fundamental data for American plus size fashion market and design development for Korean fashion companies that are under way of entering or planning to enter the American market. Furthermore, this will demonstrate the actual details of the designs that will eventually help the development of specialized product for the globalization of Korean fashion industry.

  • Among the promising cancer therapy is targeting of the drug to tumor cells via receptor specific ligands. CR2945, $\beta$-2-( [2-(8-azaspiro [4.5] dec-8-ylcarbony!)-4.6-dimethylphenyl]amino-2-oxoethyl] -(R)-1-naphthalenepropanoic acid. is known to have an inhibitory effect on a gastrin receptor of colorectal cancer cells. As the human pancreatic cancer cells (BxPC-3) express gastrin receptors. interruption of binding of gastrin with gastrin receptor of human pancreatic cancer cells by CR2945 inhibits the growth of human pancreatic cancer cells. • Paeoniae radix is commonly used for various woman's health problems in traditional korean medicine. In order to develop new antioxidant for woman use. the ethanolic extracts of paeoniae radix (PRE) were prepared and various biological activities were evaluated. PRE showed potent free radical scavenging activity and moderate antioxidative activity in vitro. and also showed the protective effect on H2O2-induced DNA damage in mammalian cell. (omitted)

  • Extraskeletal chondroma is a benign soft tissue tumor which is composed of hyaline cartilage but arises from the fibrous stroma rather than from mature cartilaginous or osseous tissue. Extraskeletal chondroma is relatively rare and occurs most frequently in the soft tissue around the joints of hands and feet. We present one case of extraskeletal chondroma in a finger of a young woman.

  • Nodular fasciitis is a benign reactive proliferation that usually involves the deep fascia. Although it is relatively common in the adult population, it is often misdiagnosed as sarcoma due to its rapid growth and pathological features. It rarely presents as a chest wall tumor in young patients. Here, we report a case of nodular fasciitis involving the chest wall of an 18-year-old woman and its surgical management. This case underscores the need to consider nodular fasciitis in the differential diagnosis of chest wall tumors in young patients.

  • Objective: To investigate whether polymorphism of gene encoding COMT is associated with the risk of endometriosis in Korean women. Methods: We investigated 136 patients with histopathologically confirmed endometriosis rAFS stage III/IV and 251 control group women who were surgically proven to have no endometriosis. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of PCR products were done to determine each participant's COMT genotype. Results: The distribution according to NIaIII genetic polymorphisms of COMT were as follows. $COMT^{HH}$, $COMT^{HL}$, and $COMT^{LL}$ genotypes were 56.6% (77 women), 34.6% (47 women) and 8.8% (12 women) in the study group and 50.6% (127 women), 39.4% (99 women) and 10.0% (25 women) in the control group. There was no significant difference between the study group and the control group. Conclusion: The results suggest that COMT genetic polymorphism may not be associated with the development of endometriosis in Korean women.

  • The acetylation of histone is one of the mechanisms involved in the regulation of gene expression and is tightly controlled by two core enzymes, histone acetyltransferase (HAT) and deacetylase (HDAC). There are several reports that imbalance of HAT and HDAC activity is associated with abnormal behavior of the cells in morphology, cell cycle, differentiation, and carcinogenesis. Recently, an increasing number of structurally diverse HDAC inhibitors have been identified that inhibit proliferation and induce differentiation and/or apoptosis of tumor cells in vivo and in vitro. In this study, we have investigated the effects of novel HDAC inhibitors, IN2001 on ER positive and ER negative human breast cancer cell lines. The growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of cells by HDAC inhibitors were determined using SRB assay, DNA fragmentation, and flow cytometry. We found that IN 2001 as well as Trichostatin A inhibited cell growth dose-dependently in both ER positive and ER negative human breast cancer cell lines. The growth inhibition with HDAC inhibitors was associated with profound morphological change. The result of cell cycle analysis after 24 h exposure of IN2001 showed G2-M cell cycle arrest in MCF-7 cell and apoptosis in T47D and MDA-MB-231 cell. In summary, IN2001 has antiproliferative effect on human breast cancer cells regardless of the expression of estrogen receptor. These findings heights the possibility of developing HDAC inhibitors as potential anticancer therapeutic agents for the treatment of breast cancer.

  • John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) is a painter renown for his romantic beautiful femme fatale images in the late 19th century in England. The purpose of this study is to examine the fashion in Waterhouse's femme fatale images. Waterhouse displays the devilism of femme fatale by the symbols of a wicked woman. He emphasized how wicked she is by means of water such as lake, river, and sea as well as symbols associated with demons such as forest, cave, naked woman, long hair, a monster-headed woman looking like an animal, water lily, and garden. On the other hand, he illustrates the woman's style as an image of a typical feminine beauty. Expressing naturally a fine-curved, immature girl's body with marvel-like white and clear skin in a kneeling down or crouching passive rose and depicting it as an innocent and fragile feminine image, he created a passive and lovely image of a young girl. With her eminent beauty and sex appeals, she lured men into danger. Words such as evil, women, and death had been used in describing her as femme fatale to emphasize her wickedness as well as to deliver the meaning across from the inside and to the outside. They also described her as a type of woman with body posture and fashion corresponding to the sexual ideology during the Victorian Age. His description of this fashion image was to show that femme fatale's fashion, which represents attraction and fatality, does not necessarily translate to an active fashion style that emphasizes sensuality. It also tends to minimize resistance and feelings of being threatened. Therefore, it allons us to acknowledge that even girlish body with innocent and frail-looking fashion can be a form of femme fatale, and that fashion styles is essential in forming the image of femininity.
