  • An experimental investigation has been carried out to determine the effect of tempering temperature on the fatigue crack propagation behavior and mechanical properties using the quenched and tempered STS420 martensitic stainless steel. Heat treatments of tempering for two hours at the five different temperatures of 150.deg.C, 300.deg.C, 450.deg.C, 600.deg.C and 700.deg.C have been performed on the martensite obtained by air cooling the specimens austenitized for one hour at 1010.deg.C. Tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, .DELTA.K$_{th}$, C and m values of differently tempered specimens have been investigated by tensile, hardness and fatigue tests.s.

  • Determining the hysteretic energy demand and dissipation capacity and level of damage of the structure to a predefined earthquake ground motion is a highly non-linear problem and is one of the questions involved in predicting the structure's response for low-performance levels (life safe, near collapse, collapse) in performance-based earthquake resistant design. Neural Network (NN) analysis offers an alternative approach for investigation of non-linear relationships in engineering problems. The results of NN yield a more realistic and accurate prediction. A NN model can help the engineer to predict the seismic performance of the structure and to design the structural elements, even when there is not adequate information at the early stages of the design process. The principal aim of this study is to develop and test multi-layered feedforward NNs trained with the back-propagation algorithm to model the non-linear relationship between the structural and ground motion parameters and the hysteretic energy demand in steel moment resisting frames. The approach adapted in this study was shown to be capable of providing accurate estimates of hysteretic energy demand by using the six design parameters.

  • A design method is newly presented for the creation of planar type filters which shapes will be nonuniform transmission line with continuously varying characteristic impedances. Those filters yield frequency characteristics of the bandstop filter in transmission, and have not nay discontinuities. The design is achieved by the control of wave propagation in view to both reflection an transmission properties on the dispersive nonuniform line within the desired frequency band. The developed algorithm is based on optimized perturbations of inherent nulls of lobes from the solution of first-order nonlinear differential equation for reflection coefficients of the nonuniform line, and an appropriate distribution of reflection coefficient which affects to filter length and bandwidth. Practical measurements for designed wideband microstrip and stop filter show very good agreement with theoretical results.

  • The fatigue and tensile test were carried out with Mild steel using the Dump Frame of commercial car. The specimens were heat-treated at $810^{\circ}C$ and $930^{\circ}C$ and worked 4.5, 6.0, 8.0mm thickness in order to look over the mechanical properties and fatigue life by heat treatment and thickness from the tensile test result, the yield strength of the heat treated specimens was increased about 35% more than that of the non-heat treated specimen. The fatigue life of non-heated specimen was decreased 15% but that of heat treated specimens at $870^{\circ}C$ and $930^{\circ}C$ were decreased 16.38% and 13.16% respectably according to increasing the thickness from 4.5 to 8.0mm.

  • A 3D stacked IC is made by multiple dies (possibly) with heterogeneous process technologies. Therefore, die-to-die variation in 2D chips renders on-package variation (OPV) in a 3D chip. In spite of the different variation effect in 3D chips, generally, 3D die stacking can produce high yield due to the smaller individual die area and the averaging effect of variation on data path. However, 3D clock network can experience unintended huge clock skew due to the different clock propagation routes on multiple stacked dies. In this paper, we analyze the on-package variation effect on 3D clock networks and show the necessity of a post silicon management method such as body biasing technique for the OPV induced 3D clock skew control in 3D stacked IC designs. Then, we present a parametric yield improvement method to mitigate the OPV induced 3D clock skew.

  • Aluminium alloy castings, which can be not only manufactured in larger geometrically complex shapes, but also show good mechanical properties in addition to light weight, have kept their potential use as structures in the field of automotives, industrial machines and aircrafts. The variations of eutectic Si size a great effect on the elongation, impact value, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation rate without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The cooling curves with the solidification rate between $1.4^{\circ}C\;/min$ and $19.1^{\circ}C\;/min$ were obtained. With the increase of solidification rate, DAS, eutectic Si size and grain size were all decreased, which enhanced the mechanical properties. The tensile strength and yield strength were the most greatly influenced by DAS, and the elongation and impact value by eutectic Si size.

  • This investigation was undertaken to establish the technologies of grain refinement and modification, and to characterize material properties, essential for high quality aluminum alloy castings. Grain refinement seldom changed DAS and eutectic Si size, but largely decrease grain size. The variations of grain size induced by grain refinement had a great influence on the elongation without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The optimum Ti level lies between 0.1% and 0.16% to achieve the best possible mechanical properties. DAS and grain size were little affected, but eutectic Si size was greatly refined by modification. The variation of eutectic Si size had a great effect on the elongation, impact value, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation rate without changes in the tensile strength or yield strength. The Sr content of 0.015% is optimum to modification.
