  • The studies were performed to obtain the basic informations on the influence of weather condition for grain yield and yield components in barley. The data of Olbori tested in 9 sites for 12 years were used in the studies. Milled grain yield was decreased in paddy field after rice harvested comparing to the upland condition, and yield potential was differed by test sites with the most stable yield in Gyeongnam. The coefficients of variation analyzed for milled grain yield by years were 12.2-42.6% with the differences between high-yield and low-yield year. Heading date was earlier in high-yield year and southern part compared to the low-yield year and middle part of the Korean peninsular showing the negative correlation between grain yield and heading date. High-yield year showed longer in culm length, shorter in spike length, almost same in number of grains per spike, and lower in 1,000grain weight compared to the low-yield year. Correlation analyzed between number of spikes and grain yield showed positive relationship. Temperatures affected to the grain yield analyzed by high in vegitative growth stage, low in alternative growth stage, and almost same in reproductive growth stage in high-yield year comparing to the low-yield year, however no remarkable differences of temperatures affected were detected in over wintering stage between high-yield and low-yield year. Precipitation amount in high-yield year was lesser in sowing time, more in seedling time, and lesser in over wintering time than those of the low-yield year. Correlation between rainfall amount in the early of April and grain yield showed significant negative correlation with the remarkable affects to the grain yield. Sunshine hours in high-yield year were longer in sowing time, shorter in over wintering time, and after the over wintering time to harvesting time was longer than those of the low-yie-ld year.

  • This experiment was carried out to select for the varieties with high environmental adaptability in mountainous pastures of Taekwalyong area, and the evaluation was based on the data of varietal differences of dry matter production and yield components in Tall fescue cutting at various developmental stages in growth period of autumn. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The varieties with high number of tillers per plant(NT) showed a high dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. These varieties(Barce1 and Fuego) may be more adaptable to mountainous pastures of Taekwalyon area than other varieties. 2. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was significantly positive correlated with dry weight of plant (DW), but dry weight of tiller(WT) was not significantly correlated with dry weight of plant(DW) in all autumn cuttings. 3. The multiple regression equations of autumn cutting stages with mean dry weight of plant(DW) and number of tillers per plant(NT) can be used to estimate the cutting time to obtain maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT). The maximum mean dry weight of plant(DW) and the highest number of tillers per plant(NT) was estimated at the time of 21 Oct. and 26 Oct, respectively. 4. Dead leaves tended to increase greatly after the 2nd cutting(l4 Oct.) in growth period of autumn. 5. The number of tillers per plant(NT) was an important yield component before tiller density achieved equilibrium, but dry weight of tiller(WT, including dead leaves) was of most significant as a yield determinant after maximum tiller density reached in growth period of autumn.

  • In recent years, adoption of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is spreading in most Asian countries, and more recently in Cambodia is one of the Asian countries with high adoptions of SRI. We conducted on-farm experiment to investigate the effects of SRI on rice growth and yield in the farmers' fields in rainfed region of southern Cambodia. The study was undertaken in rainfed lowland fields of Popel commune ($11^{\circ}$ 04' 67" N, $104^{\circ}$ 40' 79" E) of Tram Kak District in Takeo Province during the wet seasons in 2012, 2013, and 2015. A total of 32 on-farm experiments were conducted during the wet seasons for three years of 2012 (11 fields), 2013 (8 fields), and 2015 (13 fields). Across the three years of study, SRI produced significantly greater plant biomass and grain yield than Non-SRI. The yield increase was mostly ascribed for the increased number of grains per land area, which was due to the increased number of spikelets per panicle rather than the number of panicles per land area. With no significant difference between SRI and Non-SRI with respect to seedling age, the greater number of grains per panicle was accounted for by the reduced planting density and increased amount of manure application in SRI than Non-SRI fields. It was found that the greater manure application has increased soil nitrogen content in SRI and Non-SRI fields. While SRI did not increase the number of panicles per land area, it did increase the number of panicles per hill.

  • Subspecific difference of the percentage of white immature kernels (WIK) between japonica and indica rice cultivars was analyzed in relation to ripening temperature and yield characters. Thirty-three Chinese and 10 Japanese rice cultivars, including 32 japonica and 11 indica, were cultivated with three different cropping seasons for three years. The results were as follows: (1) Indica had less number of panicles, larger number of spikelets per panicle with higher yield, and longer and narrower kernels than japonica. In japonica, Chinese cultivars had less number of panicles and larger number of spikelets per panicle than Japanese cultivars. In addition, WIK was significantly higher in Chinese cultivars than in Japanese cultivars, because of the higher percentage of milky white kernels, even at similar temperature conditions during ripening. On the other hand, WIK in indica was not significantly different between the production areas and between the cropping seasons. (2) Regardless of subspecies, WIK in a large number of Chinese cultivars increased with increasing temperature during ripening within 20 days after heading, while this relation was uncommon in Japanese cultivars, showing the low temperature response. However, some Chinese cultivars had the low WIK with the low temperature response. (3) WIK in japonicawas positively correlated with 1000-kernel weight, spikelet density, kernel width and thickness, but negatively correlated with panicle length and grain filling percentage, while in indica it was positively correlated with panicle number per area, grain filling percentage, brown rice yield and kernel width, but negatively correlated with kernel length. These results indicated that WIK in both subspecies had a close relation to kernel size, and that WIK was high in japonica cultivars with wide and thick kernels and in indica cultivars with short and wide kernels.

  • Seven years data on the yield of ginseng seedling were investigated to define the relations between meteorological conditions and yield of ginseng seedling. Variation of meteorological factors by years are showed in the order precipitation, hours of sunshine and temperature. The variation of temperature by years was biggest in June, whereas smallest figure in April. Variation of yield of ginseng seedling in different quality by years was biggest in number of short weighted seedling and least in that of usable seedling. Highly significant correlations were confirmed between number of usable seedling and number of total seedling, and between number of total seedling and precipitation from January to March, respectively. A significant negative correlation was recognized between the number of usable seedling and temperature in July but correlation between number of usable seedling and precipitation in May was positive. It suggests that water management in seedbed have to be started from May.

  • In order to find out the possibility of increasing the number of spikelets by changing transplanting date, this study was conducted at Suwon, Yuseong and Jinju in 1979 and 1980. Climatic consumption effect was different depending on location, year, and variety. Number of spikelets can be increased by changing transplanting date due to the decrease of climatic consumption index (C C I) during the reproductive stage. Transplanting date for higher yield and number of spikelets of Tongil was May 25 at Suwon, from May 25 to June 5 at Yuseong and June 5 at Jinju, and in the japonica, it was slightly earlier than that of Tongil in each location. Increasing the number of spikelets and grain yield by the effect of decrease in C C C during the reproductive stage should be considered the percentage of ripened grains.

  • This study has been carried out to find out the optimum plant density and number of seedling per hill in the late season culture of rice at Chung Buk. P.O.R.D. Up to the level of 33 hills per m2 and 6 number of seedling per hill, rice yield was increased as the number of seedling per hill and plant density per unit areas increased. However it is recommendable to have a plant density of 28~33 hills per m$^2$ with 4~6 number of seedling per hill for the late season culture.

  • To determine as optimal sowing time of forage rape in spring time in southern areas of Korea, forage rape cv. Velox, the highest yielding variety among introduced varieties of forage rape, was grown under five different sowing times. Yield components such as plant length, number of branches and number of leaves etc. were higher at the sowing time of Mar. 15 and Mar. 25. The plants sown at Mar. 15 and Mar. 25 also showed highest fresh and dry matter yield. When plants were grown under later sowing time, they showed higher values in content of crude protein and lower values in contents of crude fiber such as Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), cellulose and lignin. There was no relationship between variation of In Vitro Dry matter Digestibility (IVDMD) and sowing time. The plants sown at Mar. 15 and Mar. 25 showed highest digestible dry matter yields.

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the variations in morphological traits, yield and yield-related components of rice cultivars exposed to different weather conditions by growing at the locations with different altitude but with equal latitude. Three Japonica varieties (Daegoldo, Jinheung, Shin #2) and three Tongil type semi-dwarf varieties(Josaengtongil, Suweon 287, wx 817-65-2-3) were seeded at Suweon on April 21 and transplanted at Suweon ($127^{\circ}$ N37 20', altitude 37m) and Jechun ($128.2^{\circ}$, N37 10', altitude 280-300m) on June 1 with the spacing of 30 $\times$ 15 em. The morphological traits, yield and yield-related components were measured. Culm length, paincle length and 1000-grain weight showed a little increase in Japonica varieties in Jechun as compared to those in Suweon and vice versa in semi-dwarf varieties, showing no significant differences. Number of panicles, per hill and number of spikelets per panicle among yield-related components showed remarkable increase in all varieties in Jechun as compared to those in 'Suweon but such inter-locational differences differed with varieties within varietal group and between varietal groups. On the contrary, grain fertility was higher in Suweon than that in Jechun and in Japonica varieties than that in semi-dwarf varieites , showing greater inter-locational difference in semi-dwarf varieties. Among Japonica varieties Jinheung and Shin #2 showed remarkable increase in yield in Jechun as compared to that in Suweon but in semidwarf varieties it was just the opposite. The importance of each of the yield-related component contributing to yield showed similar tendency 'regardless of locations in Japonica varieties. However, it was evidently different between locations in semidwarf varieties, where number of spikelets per panicle showed greatest direct effect on yield in Suweon but in Jechun so did grain fertility followed by the number of spikelets per panicle.
