  • This paper investigated optimum process conditions of coating yarn for awning fabric. For this purpose, the simulation for processability and yarn quality using SPSS statistics package was carried out, and PP/TPO and PET/PVC coating yarns specimens were made with variation of extruder temperature and feed speed of core yarn on the yarn coating machine for examining simulation result. It was revealed that optimum coating conditions of PP/TPO 1000d coating yarn were extruder temperature $150^{\circ}C$, and core yarn feed speed 400~500m/min. Mechanical property and thermal shrinkage of PP/TPO coating yarn made at this conditions were best and core evenness rates of these coating yarns by yarn compression tester were also superior, which was certified by SEM photograph. In addition, these experimental results were coincided with simulation results. It was found that, in PET/PVC coating yarn, yarn physical properties between 1500d and 1200d coated yarns were not shown any difference, and core evenness rates of these coating yarns were superior. It revealed and concluded that these simulated coating conditions are applicable to production field.

  • This study surveys the fiber behavior in yarn formation and the Physical properties of Solo-spun yarn. The specimens were made by six types of Solo-spun rollers with fixed twist multiplier In the previous part, the physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yarns were compared with the properties of ring spun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. In the second part of this report, the abrasion resistance and hairiness were discussed with respect to the micro yarn structures. The narrower the groove width of Solo-spun roller is, the more active the bulk fiber migration is. The Solo-spun yarn structure has two groups. One is shorter than the other one in longitudinal direction of yarn and has the same structure as ring-spun yarn, which is derived from the smooth zone on the surface of Solo-spun roller. The other one is longer than the former and there are the wrapping fibers. This part is derived from the conflicted grooves on the surface of Solo-spun roller.

The physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yarns were compared with the properties of ring spun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. The grooves on the surface of Solo-spun roller divide the web and interfere the twist propagation. These phenomena cause the uneven draft and the fly of fiber, so the Solo-spun yarn becomes finer than fing-spun yarn and the yarn breaking strength and elongation deteriorate, but these demerits can be improved with rounding the protruded edge of Solo-spun roller grooves.

  • This study surveys the fiber behavior in yam formation and the Physical properties of Solo-spun yarn. The specimens were made by six types of Solo-spun rollers with fixed twist multiplier In the previous part, the physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yams were compared with the properties of ring shun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. In the second part of this report, the abrasion resistance and hairiness were discussed wish respect to the micro yarn structures. The narrower the groove width of Solo-spun roller is, the more active the bulk fibers migration is. The Solo-spun film structure has two groups. • This paper reports the effects of bleaching of alpaca tops and dyeing of bleached alpaca tops/yarns on the quality of tops and yarns. A dark brown alpaca top was bleached with hydrogen peroxide. Two bleaching methods were tried for effectiveness of color removal. A portion of each bleached top was dyed after bleaching. Color parameters were examined for unbleached, bleached and bleached/dyed tops, these tops were then converted into yarns of different twist levels and counts using a worsted spinning system. Some of the bleached yarn from each bleaching method was dyed in a package dye vat to compare the difference of top dyeing versus yarn package dyeing on yarn quality. Fiber diameter, yarn strength, yarn evenness, yarn hairiness and fiber degradation were tested to examine the effects of bleaching and dyeing on these properties at top and yarn stages. A processing route for bleaching and dyeing alpaca fiber was recommended.

  • Random and/or periodic defects occur in all spun yarns. These irregularities can often lead to defects in finished fabric. Yarn evenness tests are used to obtain statistical data about yarn properties, such as CV%, which is useful in comparing several sets of similar data that differ in mean value but may have some commonality in relative variation. Although this statistical data is helpful in determining relative yarn Quality, accurate predictions of how the yarn will appear in fabric form are still difficult to obtain. As an promising alterative, wavelet analysis has been employed to localize yam defect so as to predict the visual qualifies of the fabrics.

  • The cotton yarn was subjected to bio-polishing treatment with three commercial enzymes(Cellusoft L, Denimax-991L and Denimax-acid) to remove the fuzz on the cotton yarn. Also, enzyme treated cotton yarns were compared with singeing cotton yarns. Experimental variables of enzyme treated cotton yarn were as follow: concentration of enzyme solution and NaOH, dipping time, and processing temperature. The enzymatic treatments were evaluated by analyzing the effect on yarn count, twist contraction, evenness and tenacity. As the results, enzymatic treatment on cotton yarn induced same effects as the traditional singeing treatment. Also, silket treatment of cotton yarn after bio-polishing enhanced the tensile properties of the cotton yarn.
