The suspension bridge is situated in an area of complex topography with both open sea and overland turbulence characteristics, and it is subject to frequent typhoon occurrences. This paper investigates experimentally the possible vortex shedding events of the structure under high wind and typhoon conditions. A single-degree-of-freedom model for the vibration of a unit bridge deck section is adopted to determine the amplitude of vibration and to estimate the parameters related to the lifting force in a vortex shedding event. The results of the studies are presented in a companion paper (Law, et al. 2007). In this paper, statistical analysis on the measured responses of the bridge deck shows that the vibration response at the first torsional mode of the structure has a significant increase at and beyond the critical wind speed for vortex shedding as noted in the wind tunnel tests on a section model of the structure.

This article concerns the class of rings which satisfy the property of inserting regular elements at zero products, and rings with such property are called regular-IFP. We study the structure of regular-IFP rings in relation to various ring properties that play roles in noncommutative ring theory. We investigate conditions under which the regular-IFPness pass to polynomial rings, and equivalent conditions to the regular-IFPness.

This note is concerned with examining nilradicals and Jacobson radicals of polynomial rings when related factor rings are Armendariz. Especially we elaborate upon a well-known structural property of Armendariz rings, bringing into focus the Armendariz property of factor rings by Jacobson radicals. We show that J(R[x]) = J(R)[x] if and only if J(R) is nil when a given ring R is Armendariz, where J(A) means the Jacobson radical of a ring A. A ring will be called feckly Armendariz if the factor ring by the Jacobson radical is an Armendariz ring. It is shown that the polynomial ring over an Armendariz ring is feckly Armendariz, in spite of Armendariz rings being not feckly Armendariz in general. It is also shown that the feckly Armendariz property does not go up to polynomial rings.

The amorphous silicon microbolometer array has been developed by the MEMS design and fabrication technology. Before the bolometer array for the image sensor being designed, the structure of unit cell and $16\times16$ array of it was simulated, designed and fabricated. The properties of bolometer have been measured as such that the TCR -3%/K.

Deformation analysis of injection molded articles whose geometry is considered as the assembly of the thin flat plates has been conducted. For the in-mold analysis, thermo-viscoelastic stress calculation of rheologically simple amorphous polymer and in-mold deformation calculation considering the in-plane mold constraint has been done. Free volume theory has been used for the non-equilibrium density state by the fast cooling. At ejection, the redistribution of stress together with instantaneous deformation has been considered. During out-of-mold cooling after ejection, thermoelastic model based on the effective temperature has been adopted for the calculation of deformation. Two typical mold geometries are used to test the numerical simulation.

To understand the high expansion effects by adopting intake closing time in the cases of compensating intake air-mass and effective compression ratio simultaneously, fundamental study was carried out by using RICEM realizing Atkinson cycle. Intake air-mass and effective compression ratio were compensated by increasing supercharged pressure and geometric compression ratio. The results showed that the increasing rates of expansion ratio and expansion-compression ratio were increased by compensating both a intake air-mass and effective compression ratio the same tendencies were obtained with the increases of compression ratio and cut off ratio It was also found that LIVC has more advantages in expansion ratio and effective work than those of EIVC under above conditions.

In this paper, we investigate the insertion-of-factors-property (simply, IFP) on skew polynomial rings, introducing the concept of strongly ${\sigma}-IFP$ for a ring endomorphism ${\sigma}$. A ring R is said to have strongly ${\sigma}-IFP$ if the skew polynomial ring R[x;${\sigma}$] has IFP. We examine some characterizations and extensions of strongly ${\sigma}-IFP$ rings in relation with several ring theoretic properties which have important roles in ring theory. We also extend many of related basic results to the wider classes, and so several known results follow as consequences of our results.

We study the one-sided regularity of matrices in upper triangular matrix rings in relation with the structure of diagonal entries. We next consider a ring theoretic condition that ab being regular implies ba being also regular for elements a, b in a given ring. Rings with such a condition are said to be commutative at regular product (simply, CRP rings). CRP rings are shown to be contained in the class of directly finite rings, and we prove that if R is a directly finite ring that satisfies the descending chain condition for principal right ideals or principal left ideals, then R is CRP. We obtain in particular that the upper triangular matrix rings over commutative rings are CRP.

The authors analyzed the citation of Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society, based on Korean Medical Citation Index[KoMCI] from 2000 to 2004. In this analysis the impact factor showed no significant further improvement in 2004 compared to 2003. However, the number of received citations was increased remarkably. If this increase can be kept up, it may have positive effect on impact factors. In the era of open competition of medical journals, the awareness and cooperations of every members of Korean Neurosurgical Society is essential for improvement of the status of our journal in a steady trend.
