  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Interactive Metronome (IM) training on postural control and hand writing performance of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methods : Participant was a third grade elementary school student diagnosed with ADHD. ABA design was used and a total of 30 sessions were held for 3 sessions every week for a total of 10 weeks. In the intervention period, IM training was conducted for 40~50 minutes before intervention for writing, and the writing task was carried out. We evaluated the handwriting legibility and speed. Before baseline A and within a month after A' phase, Clinical Observation of Motor and Postural Skills (COMPS) was evaluated to examine the changes in postural control of the student. Results : After the IM intervention, the postural control of the student improved in the score of slow movement, finger-nose touching, and asymmetrical tonic neck reflex. The handwriting legibility and speed has also tended to increase during the intervention period, but it has not significantly changed. Conclusion : This study could be used as an evidence that the IM training aimed at postural control and handwriting ability could enhance the ability to improve postural control and thereby provide fundamental knowledge for future studies.

  • Purpose: The purposes of study was to evaluate the effect of debriefing using reflection questions and writing on the critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement ability in simulation of post-operative care of abdominal surgery. Methods: The research method was a nonequivalent control group no-synchronized design. The study period was from August 22 to 30, 2016. The subjects were comprised of 34 people in the experimental group and 36 in the control group. In a simulation session for post-operative care of abdominal surgery, the treatment of the experimental group was to debrief for 30 minutes using Lasater's reflection questions and writing. For the control group, a typical debriefing was conducted in the same environment. Results: Critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. Conclusion: To enhance the critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and clinical judgement of nursing students in simulation, it is recommended to debrief using reflection questions and writing.

  • The present study was conducted to investigate science and engineering graduate students' proficiency in technical English writing and their perceptions of research ethics. Given that graduate students in science and engineering colleges usually write journal articles as well as dissertations in English, this study examined their experience of and preparation for technical English writing, writing practices, and research ethics including plagiarism. The results of the study show that it is very necessary to intensify education on research ethics and to provide educational training in proper citation practices. These findings can be used as a basis for the development of future academic curricula and other support resources to improve science and engineering graduate students' technical English writing.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop science essay writing activities for developing elementary pre-service teacher's scientific thinking ability and scientific emotion and to analyze its effects. For the study, 60 first grade students attending teacher training institutes in the G region of Korea were selected. All 60 elementary pre-service teachers were students who selected a liberal arts lecture related to 'science inquiry'. As a result of the study, we confirmed that the preliminary teacher uses the scientific method of 'induction' in the article related to scientific thinking and the description related to the past time, agency, and purpose of the story is included in the essay related to scientific emotion. In addition, it was confirmed that elementary school teachers' writing ability was improved as the writing was repeated, and that the image of 'science' changed positively in many areas. This study suggests that a various and interesting scientific inquiry activities are needed to improve the science writing skills.

  • This was a one-group pretest-protest pre-experimental study designed to find out the effects of writing programs on college students using flipped learning for training convergence talents with complex problem solving skills. Data were collected from 27 C university students in G-do, from September 1st to October 30th, 2020. Analysis was done using IBM SPSS 25.0 for frequency (percentage), average, standard deviation, and paired t-test. The study showed that self leadership was enhanced by an average of 0.45 points (p<.001), metacognition by 0.87 points (p<.001), goal orientation by 0,77 points (p<.001), and creativity by 0.51 points (p<.001), so was statistically significant. The study demonstrated that writing programs using filpped learning had the effect of improving complex problem solving skills. so the results are expected to be used as basic data for the development of educational programs for traning convergence talents with problem solving skills at university-level. Also, for current college students that can freely access the online environment, development of various e-learning classes that apply flipped learning is needed.

  • As Chinese characters occupies more than 70% of words we currently use, the education of Chinese characters is becoming important day by day to accurately deliver the meaning of words in our language life. In recent, there are increasing concerns on writing Chinese characters correctly as well as reciting, books and Internet contents on Chinese character writing is emerging. However, currently available Internet media on the Chinese characters education only illuminates recitation and interpretation. Moreover, the writing part is merely provided in the form of paper by printing the characters, thus, writing materials are insufficient. In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of Web based Chinese characters writing system. Using the system, a user can write Chinese characters with mouse device. The learning progress is accordingly managed for the user. In addition, the proposed system can be used any place in where Internet is connected.

  • The smart educational environment using the IWB(Interactive White Board) system has been built and developed since e-learning industry was developed significantly in the early 2000's. Basically the IWB system includes the board writing software, and instructors can further increase the training effect by handwriting on the IWB. In this paper we propose new menu layout mechanism of board writing software that only a few menu buttons are displayed based on the frequency of menu usage and the position of menu layout is dynamically moved according to user's writing position. The implementation of our proposed mechanism shows that it is simple and easy to use without user's unnecessary movement. Therefore it is expected to contribute greatly to the development of a future smart education.

  • This study investigates Korean language teachers' perception/beliefs and practices in written feedback. Two types of data were collected: (1) teachers' feedback on three compositions by elementary-level learners, and (2) a survey questionnaire. The result showed that teachers perceived written feedback to be important even though they had not enough opportunities to receive appropriate training. Lack of training brought about limited feedback in terms of both quantity and quality, and inconsistency between their beliefs and practice. This study closes with the needs for teacher training and further studies on teachers' feedback practices.

  • In order to train a supervised machine learning algorithm, it is necessary to have non-biased labels and a sufficient amount of training data. However, it is difficult to collect the required non-biased labels and a sufficient amount of training data to develop an automatic English Composition scoring system. In addition, an English writing assessment is carried out using a multi-faceted evaluation of the overall level of the answer. Therefore, it is difficult to choose an appropriate machine learning algorithm for such work. In this paper, we show that it is possible to alleviate these problems through ensemble learning. The results of the experiment indicate that the ensemble technique exhibited an overall performance that was better than that of other algorithms.

  • This paper proposes a technique for recognizing online handwritten cursive data obtained by tracing a motion trajectory while a user is in the 3D space based on a convolution neural network (CNN) algorithm. There is a difficulty in recognizing the virtual character input by the user in the 3D space because it includes both the character stroke and the movement stroke. In this paper, we divide syllable into consonant and vowel units by using labeling technique in addition to the result of localizing letter stroke and movement stroke in the previous study. The coordinate information of the separated consonants and vowels are converted into image data, and Korean handwriting recognition was performed using a convolutional neural network. After learning the neural network using 1,680 syllables written by five hand writers, the accuracy is calculated by using the new hand writers who did not participate in the writing of training data. The accuracy of phoneme-based recognition is 98.9% based on convolutional neural network. The proposed method has the advantage of drastically reducing learning data compared to syllable-based learning.
