A Methocarbamol Combination to Prevent Toxicity of Non-steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (비스테로이드성 항염증제의 약물독성 예방을 위한 Methocarbamol의 약물조합)

  • To prevent toxicity from both robax platinum (methocarbamol, ibuprofen) and robaxacet (methocarbomol, acetaminophen), separately, we used stretches and naproxen as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to compare each effectiveness. This study used the United States Forces Korea Prescription form (Annex A-Over-The-Counter Prescription) and Alice Rich's Pain scale with robax platinum, robaxacet including narproxen. The IBM SPSS statics version 24 was used to calculate the data. The combined methocarbamol 500 mg, acetaminophen 325 mg tablet, and ibuprofen 200 mg (or naproxen) tablet can work as well as the combined methocarbamol 500 mg tablet with acetaminophen 325 mg tablet with stretches. Both methods were successful in managing pain. The drug combination of methocarbamol 500 mg, acetaminophen 325 mg and ibuprofen 200 mg tablets yielded similar benefits as the methocarbamol 500 mg and acetaminophen 325 mg tablets paired with physical stretching exercises regarding managing overall pain.

Development of a continuous electrolytic system with an ion exchange membrane for pH-control with only one discharge of electrolytic solution and its characteristics (단일 전해액 배출만을 가지는 pH조절용 연속식 이온 교환막 전해 시스템의 개발과 그 특성)

  • In order to produce only a pH-controlled solution without discharging any unwanted solution, this work has developed a continuous electrolytic system with a pH-adjustment reservoir being placed before an ion exchange membrane-equipped electrolyzer, where as a target solution was fed into the pH-adjustment reservoir, some portion of the solution in the pH-adjustment reservoir was circulated through the cathodic or anodic chamber of the electrolyzer depending on the type of the ion exchange membrane used, and some other portion of the solution in the pH-adjustment reservoir was discharged from the electrolytic system through the other counter chamber with its pH being controlled. The internal circulation of the pH-adjustment reservoir solution through the anodic chamber in the case of using a cation exchange membrane and that through the cathodic chamber in the case of using an anion exchange membrane could make the solution discharged from the other counter chamber effectively acidic and basic, respectively. The phenomena of the pH being controlled in the system could be explained by the electro-migration of the ion species in the solution through the ion exchange membrane under a cell potential difference between anode and cathode and its consequently-occurring non-charge equilibriums and electrolytic water- split reactions in the anodic and cathodic chambers.

Relationships between a Calculated Mass Concentration and a Measured Concentration of PM2.5 and Respirable Particle Matter Sampling Direct-Reading Instruments in Taconite Mines (타코나이트 광산 공정에서의 실시간 질량측정기기와 실시간 수농도의 환산에 의한 질량농도와의 연관성)

  • Objectives: The purposes of this study are to investigate workers' exposures to respirable particles generated in taconite mines and to compare two metric methods for mass concentrations using direct-reading instruments. Methods: Air monitorings were conducted at six mines where subjects have been exposed primarily to particulate matters in crushing, concentrating, and pelletizing processes. Air samples were collected during 4 hours of the entire work shift for similarly exposure groups(SEGs) of nine jobs(N=37). Following instruments were employed to evaluate the workplace: a nanoparticle aerosol monitor(particle size range; 10-1000 nm, unit: ${\mu}m^2/cc$, Model 9000, TSI Inc.); DustTrak air monitors($PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, unit: $mg/m^3$, Model 8520, TSI Inc.); a condensation particle counter(size range; 20-1000 nm, unit: #/cc, P-Trak 8525, TSI Inc.); and an optical particle counter(particle number by size range $0.3-25{\mu}m$, unit: #/cc, Aerotrak 9306, TSI Inc.). Results: The highest airborne concentration among SEGs was for furnace operator followed by pelletizing maintenance workers in number of particle and surface area, but not in mass concentrations. The geometric means of $PM_{2.5}$ by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.04{\mu}m$(GSD 2.52) and $0.07{\mu}m$(GSD 2.60), respectively. Also, the geometric means of RPM by the DustTrak and the Ptrak/Aerotrak were $0.16{\mu}m$(GSD 2.24) and $0.32{\mu}m$(GSD 3.24), respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient for DustTrak $PM_{2.5}$ and Ptrak/Aerotrak $PM_{2.5}$ was 0.56, and that of DustTrak RPM and Ptrak/Aerotrak RPM was 0.65, indicating a moderate positive association between the two sampling methods. Surface area and number concentration were highly correlated($R^2$ = 0.80), while $PM_{2.5}$ and RPM were also statistically correlated each other($R^2$ = 0.79). Conclusions: The results suggest that it is possible to measure airborne particulates by mass concentrations or particle number concentrations using real-time instruments instead of using the DustTrak Aerosol monitor that monitor mass concentrations only.

Unsteady RANS computations of turbulent flow in a high-amplitude meandering channel (고진폭 만곡수로에서 난류흐름의 비정상 RANS 수치모의)

  • Turbulent flow structure in the high amplitude meandering channel is complex due to secondary recirculation with helicoidal motions and shear layers formed by flow separation from the curved sidewall. In this work, the secondary flow and the superelevation of the water surface produced in the high-amplitude Kinoshita channel are reproduced by the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) computations using the VOF technique for resolving the variation of water surface elevation and three statistical turbulence models ($k-{\varepsilon}$, RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$, $k-{\omega}$ SST). The numerical results computed by a second-order accurate finite volume method are compared with an existing experimental measurement. Among applied turbulence models, $k-{\omega}$ SST model relatively well predicts overall distribution of the secondary recirculation in the Kinoshita channel, while all three models yield similar prediction of water superelevation transverse slope. The secondary recirculation driven by the radial acceleration in the upstream bend affects the flow structure in the downstream bend, which yields a pair of counter-rotating vortices at the bend apex. This complex flow pattern is reasonably well reproduced by the $k-{\omega}$ SST model. Both $k-{\varepsilon}$ based models fail to predict the clockwise-rotating vortex between a pair of counter-rotating vortices which was observed in the experiment. Regardless of applied turbulence models, the present computations using the VOF method appear to well reproduce the superelevation of water surface through the meandering channel.

A Rapid Method for the Measurement of $^{222}Rn$ in Groundwater and Hot Spring Water using Ultra Low-Level Liquid Scintillation Counter and Pulse Shape Analysis (극저준위 액체섬광계수기와 파형분석법을 이용한 지하수 및 온천수중 $^{222}Rn$의 신속측정법)

  • For the determination of $^{222}Rn$ in water by a very simple and time saving liquid scintillation counting method that does not require any chemical separation, an optimum analytical condition has been investigated. The optimum pulse shape analysis(PSA) level for the measurement of $^{222}Rn$ using LKB 1220 Quantulus liquid scintillation counter was 110 for Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail and 90 for toluene-based cocktail. The counting efficiencies of $^{222}Rn$ in the window covering u spectra using Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail were 282.2% for glass vial and 271.6% for Teflon vial, whereas the counting efficiencies in toluene-based cocktail were 262.3% and 247.5% for glass and Teflon vials, respectively. The minimum detectable activity(MDA) in the u window for a 60-min measurement with a Teflon vial using Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail was $0.30Bq/{\iota}$. The analytical method studied from this work was also applied to the determination of $^{222}Rn$ in some groundwater and hot spring water samples.

  • As the terrorist act inflicted on the American Ambassador to Korea, Mark Lippert on March 5, 2015, the hunting rifle case in Sejong-si in which 3 persons were killed on February 25, and the hunting rifle murder case in Hwaseong-si Namyang-dong on February 27 occurred in succession, there is growing concern that our country is no long safe from firearm violence. Internationally, there is growing concern that our country is no longer safe from international terrorist organizations such as Islamic State (IS), the Sunni Muslims fundamentalists' Islamic militia group, which an 18-year old Korean boy Kim voluntarily joined in January 2015. The police crisis negotiation of our country was established and operated to prepare for the 1988 Olympic Games mainly for counter-terrorism purposes, and due to the characteristics of the prohibition of the use of guns, not a counter-terrorism incident has occurred, so the skepticism about its existence and the development directions are actively being discussed. Our country still prefers the traditional use of force such as SWAT team to resolve crisis case, such as such as murder, terrorism, robbery, and is reinforcing tactical capabilities. However, to perform the primary mission of the police to protect the people's lives and properties, it is necessary to establish the system in which crisis negotiations are possible in the initial stages no matter what incidents may occur by expanding the education for crisis negotiations techniques which are emphasized in the advanced countries such as the United States. In this research, the police department's internal education materials and media are analyzed so that the new police officers who work hardest on the forefront can carry out the roles as basic negotiators of crisis negotiations, and the measures for the development directions of the police crisis negotiations are presented.

  • Free admission policies have been gradually extended for the public to use cultural facilities free of charge, which lowered the barriers to use those facilities and has a great effect on increasing visitor demands. However, the annual number of visitors which is open to the public isn't quite accurate and varies from institution to institution, which means just a head count. Especially people counter overestimates the number of visitors because it counts visitors in duplicate. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to prepare effective way of grasping the number of visitors using cultural infrastructure. First, comparable number of visitors should be measured by defining the notion of visitor clearly, which has been measured vaguely. Secondly, the problem of duplicate count, which is considered the most problematic, should be solved. Thirdly, the various analysis of visitor behavior should be conducted to provide a high-quality service. To work out the problems above, new measurement will be presented here. This study suggests a state-of-the-art wireless signal-based measurement that could eliminate the duplicate data by collecting MAC address -smart device's distinct signal value. And it also could analyze diverse visitor behaviors by understanding a flow of visitor traffic, duration of stay and revisitation. I would like to examine the possibility and effectiveness of this new measurement by testing it.

VARIATION OF NEUTRON MODERATING POWER ON HDPE BY GAMMA RADIATION

  • High density polyethylene (HDPE) is degraded due to a radiation-induced oxidation when it is used as a neutron moderator in a neutron counter for a nuclear material accounting of spent fuels. The HDPE exposed to the gamma-ray emitted from the fission products in a spent nuclear fuel results in a radiation-induced degradation which changes its original molecular structure to others. So a neutron moderating power variation of HDPE, irradiated by a gamma radiation, was investigated in this work. Five HDPE moderator structures were exposed to the gamma radiation emitted from a $^{60}Co$ source to a level of $10^5-10^9$ rad to compare their post-irradiation properties. As a result of the neutron measurement test with 5 irradiated HDPE structures and a neutron measuring system, it was confirmed that the neutron moderating power for the $10^5$ rad irradiated HDPE moderator revealed the largest decrease when the un-irradiated pure one was used as a reference. It implies that a neutron moderating power variation of HDPE is not directly proportional to the integrated gamma dose rate. To clarify the cause of these changes, some techniques such as a FTIR, an element analysis and a densitometry were employed. As a result of these analyses, it was confirmed that the molecular structure of the gamma irradiated HDPEs had partially changed to others, and the contents of hydrogen and oxygen had varied during the process of a radiation-induced degradation. The mechanism of these changes cannot be explained in detail at present, and thus need further study.

Electrochemical Properties of Individual Carbon Nanotube Fabricated by Reactive Ion Etching (반응성 이온 식각법에 의해 제작된 탄소나노튜브 전극의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this work, fabrication and electrochemical analysis of an individual multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) electrode are carried out to confirm the applicability of electrochemical sensing. The reactive ion etching (RIE) process is performed to obtain sensitive MWNT electrodes. In order to characterize the electrochemical properties, an individual MWNT is cut by RIE under oxygen atmosphere into two segments with a small gap: one segment is applied to the working electrode and the other is used as a counter electrode. Electrical contacts are provided by nanolithography to the two MWNT electrodes. Dopamine is specially selected as an analytical molecule for electrochemical detection using the MWNT electrode. Using a quasi-Ag/AgCl reference electrode, which was fabricated by us, the nanoelectrodes are subjected to cyclic voltammetry inside a $2{\mu}L$ droplet of dopamine solution. In the experiment, RIE power is found to be a more effective parameter to cut an individual MWNT and to generate "broken" open state, which shows good electrochemical performance, at the end of the MWNT segments. It is found that the pico-molar level concentration of analytical molecules can be determined by an MWNT electrode. We believe that the MWNT electrode fabricated and treated by RIE has the potential for use in high-sensitivity electrochemical measurement and that the proposed scheme can contribute to device miniaturization.

Transdifferentiation of bovine epithelial cells towards adipocytes in the presence of myoepithelium

  • Objective: Orchastric changes in the mammary glands are vital, especially during lactation. The secretary epithelial cells together with the supporting myoepithelial and stromal cells function cordially to secrete milk. Increase in the number of luminal epithelial cells and a decrease in adipocytes are visible during lactation, whereas the reverse happens in the involution. However, an early involution occurs if the epithelial cells transdifferentiate towards adipocytes during the lactation period. We aimed to inhibit the adipocyte transdifferentiation of luminal cells by restraining the peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) pathway. Methods: Linolenic acid (LA) and thiazolidinediones (TZDs) induced adipogenesis in mammary epithelial cells were conducted in monolayer, mixed culture as well as in transwell plate co-culture with mammary myoepithelial cells. Results: Co-culture with myoepithelial cells showed higher adipogenic gene expression in epithelial cells under LA+TZDs treatment. Increase in the expressions of PPARγ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α and vimentin in both mRNA as well as protein levels were observed. Whereas, bisphenol A diglycidyl ether treatment blocked LA+TZDs induced adipogenesis, as it could not show a significant rise in adipose related markers. Although comparative results were found in both mixed culture and monolayer conditions, co-culture technic was found to work better than the others. Conclusion: Antagonizing PPARγ pathway in the presence of myoepithelial cells can significantly reduce the adipogenisis in epithelial cells, suggesting therapeutic inhibition of PPARγ can be considered to counter early involution or excessive adipogenesis in mammary epithelium in animals.
