This study attempted to investigate the effect of panel thickness on the horizontal density distribution (HDD) of medium density fiberboard (MDF) in a destructive way. Full size MDF panels with five different thicknesses such as 2 mm, 4.5 mm, 9 mm, 18 mm and 30 mm were cut into two different specimen sizes, i.e., $500{\times}500\;mm$ and $120{\times}120\;mm$ to measure the HDD. In general, the overall density of MDF panel diminished as the thickness increased, showing the highest density for the thinnest MDF panels. The HDD variation was significant for the samples of smaller specimen size ($120{\times}120\;mm$). MDF panel thickness significantly influenced to the HDD, which increased as the thickness decreased. In addition, the thinner panels showed much wider range in the HDD than those of thicker panels. The coefficient of variation (COV) of HDD also followed a similar trend to the panel density as the thickness increased. In summary, MDF panel thickness had a significant impact on the HDD within a panel. The sample size also showed a considerable effect to the HDD of MDF panels.
The present study revealed comparison the pressure distribution on the surfaces of regular cross plan shaped building with angular cross plan shaped building which is being transformed from basic cross plan shaped building through the variation of internal angles between limbs by $15^{\circ}$ for various wind incidence angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}$ at an interval of $30^{\circ}$. In order to maintain the area same the limbs sizes are slightly increased accordingly. Numerical analysis has been carried out to generate similar nature of flow condition as per IS: 875 (Part -III):1987 (a mean wind velocity of 10 m/s) by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with help of ANSYS CFX ($k-{\varepsilon}$ model). The variation of mean pressure coefficients, pressure distribution over the surface, flow pattern and force coefficient are evaluated for each cases and represented graphically to understand extent of nonconformities due to such angular modifications in plan. Finally regular cross shaped building results are compared with wind tunnel results obtained from similar '+' shaped building study with similar flow condition. Reduction in along wind force coefficients for angular crossed shaped building, observed for various skew angles leads to develop lesser along wind force on building compared to regular crossed shaped building and square plan shaped building. Interference effect within the internal faces are observed in particular faces of building for both cases, considerably. Significant deviation is noticed in wind induced responses for angular cross building compared to regular cross shaped building for different direction wind flow.

Monospecific red tide by a toxic dinoflagellate belonging to the genus Alexandrium occurred at Chindong Bay in the southern coast of Korea and continued from April 6th to 15th in 1997. The ratio of its cell number to total phytoplankton cell number was much higher than $95\%$. This organism was identified as Alexandrium tamarense, although slight morphological differences were found comparing to the original and successive descriptions of the species. We found neither anterior nor posterior attachment pores in these cells of the bloom population. The occurrence of red tide caused by A. tamarense was first reported in Korea. Its plate formula is Po, Pc, 4', 6"c, 8s, 5"' and 2"". Thecal plates are thin with pore-like ornamentation. In those plates, the anterior part of the first apical plate (1') is narrower and its posterior end has sometimes a block-like accessory, but this variation was considered within the range of the morphological variability of this taxon. The cell density during the red tide exhibited a wide range of variation by the depth of water column, ranging from $2\times10^6$ cells$l^{-1}$ to $5\times10^6$ cells·$l^{-1}$. Water temperature varied from 11.8 to $12.3^{\circ}C$. Toxicity of A. tamarense during red tide was measured as $8.8\times10^5$. $MU\;\cdot\;cell^{-1}$ by mouse bioassay.
Jawarishe Jalinoos (JJ) is an orally used formulation available in semisolid dosage form, prepared with powdered plant materials mixed in honey or sugar syrup. It has many admirable pharmacological effects and used in Unani medicine to treat various acute and chronic disorders since ancient times. The ICH Harmonised Tripartite Guideline stated that photostability testing should be an essential part of stability testing to confirm that light exposure does not result in an unacceptable change in drugs substance and finished products. To date, the effect of light on JJ is not studied, in this study photostability evaluation of JJ was carried out. The test sample was manufactured with genuine ingredients in the in-door pharmacy of the National Institute of Unani Medicine. JJ was packed in two transparent polyethylene terephthalate airtight containers. The first sample was analysed at zero-day and the second sample was placed in a stability chamber subjected to light challenge with an overall illumination of 1.2 million lux hours combined with near ultraviolet energy of 200-watt hours per square meter by using option 2, along with 30±2℃ temperature and relative humidity 70±5%. Analysis of both finished products showed no considerable changes in organoleptic characters. Less than 5% variation was observed in physicochemical parameters. HPTLC fingerprinting showed justifiable variation. Microbial load and specific counts were within the limit prescribed by WHO. As no unacceptable changes were noted in JJ subjecting to light challenge, it is concluded that JJ is a photostable Unani compound formulation.
Turbulence produces the density and velocity fluctuations in molecular clouds, and dense regions within the density fluctuation are the birthplace of stars. Also, turbulence can produce non-thermal pressure against gravity. Thus, turbulence plays a crucial roles in controlling star formation. However, despite many years of study, the detailed relation between turbulence and star formation remain poorly understood. As part of the Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory (TRAO) Key Science Program (KSP), "mapping Turbulent properties In star-forming MolEcular clouds down to the Sonic scale (TIMES; PI: Jeong-Eun Lee)", we mapped two star-forming molecular clouds, the Orion A and the ρ Ophiuchus molecular clouds, in six molecular lines (13CO 1-0/C18O 1-0, HCN 1-0/HCO+ 1-0, and CS 2-1/N2H+ 1-0) using the TRAO 14-m telescope. We applied the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to the observed data in two different ways. The first method is analyzing the variation of line intensities in velocity space to evaluate the velocity power spectrum of underlying turbulence. We investigated the relation between the star formation activities and properties of turbulence. The other method is analyzing the variation of the integrated intensities between the molecular lines to find the characteristic correlation between them. We found that the HCN, HCO+, and CS lines well correlate with each other in the integral shaped filament in the Orion A cloud, while the HCO+ line is anti-correlate with the HCN and CS lines in L1688 of the Ophiuchus cloud.
Contemporary society that is apt to be homogeneity because of the development of computer communication and mass-media desires to seek its own identity in native realm. Contemporary Korean architecture has endeavored continuous discussion and practice to keep its identity within the current tendency. The purpose of this study is to grope the alternative for genuine 'Koreaness' to analyse the variant trend of its characteristics 1990's. The variation of Korean society in 1990's that emphasize self-regulation and individual value has influence on the realm of architecture so much. The cognition of 'Koreaness' has changed with center in the individual and small -size design group, not present accommodation of past, but continuous research to find archetype of tradition which can play a decisive role of linking present and future on the foundation of past. Many attempts and practical works that express 'Koreaness' in 1990's are performed in the area of residence works that reflect Korean emotion and life-style directly. This change can be an answer to solve the problem of peculiarity and universality in 'Koreaness'. After 1960's the main theme of 'Koreaness' was traditional architecture form, but because of the induction of Postmodernism and at once its reflection and critical attitude with limit of formal duplication, which lost its meaning. In 1990's, research for spatial form as korean emotion and image has carried out and played an important part of original expression for 'Koreaness'

Ice crushing occurs in many situations that involve a sliding frictional component such as sports involving ice-contact, ice interaction with ship hulls, and ice-on-ice sliding/crushing within glaciers and between interacting sea ice floes. Ice crushing-friction tests were conducted in the lab at $-10^{\circ}C$ using a set of acrylic ice-crushing platens that included a flat smooth surface and a variety of high-roughness surfaces with regular arrays of small prominences. The experiments were part of Phase II tests of the Blade Runners technology for reducing ice-induced vibration. Ice was crushed against the platens where the ice movement had both a vertical and a horizontal component. High-speed imaging through the platens was used to observe the ice contact zone as it evolved during the tests. Vertical crushing rates were in the range 10-30 mm/s and the horizontal sliding rates were in the range 4.14-30 mm/s. Three types of freshwater ice were used. Friction coefficients were extraordinarily low and were proportional to the ratio of the tangential sliding rate and the normal crushing rate. For the rough surfaces all of the friction coefficient variation was determined by the fluid dynamics of a slurry that flowed through channels that developed between leeward-facing facets of the prominences and the moving ice. The slurry originated from a highly-lubricating self-generating squeeze film of ice particles and melt located between the encroaching intact ice and the surfaces.

A specially designed flat plate was mounted vertically over the axial line in the wind tunnel of the Pusan National University. Strain balances were mounted in the trailing part of the plate to measure the skin friction drag over removable insertions of $0.55{\times}0.25m^2$ size. A set of the insertions was designed and manufactured: 3 mm thick polished metal surface and three compliant surfaces. The compliant surfaces were manufactured of a silicone rubber Silastic$^{(R)}$ S2 (Dow Corning company). To modify the viscoelastic properties of the rubber, its composition was varied: 90% rubber + 10% catalyst (standard), 92.5% + 7.5% (weak), 85% + 15% (strong). Modulus of elasticity and the loss factor were measured accurately for these materials in the frequency range from 40 Hz to 3 kHz. The aging of the materials (variation of their properties) for the period of one year was documented as well. Along with the drag measurement using the strain balance, velocity and pressure were measured for different coating. The strong compliant coating achieved 5% drag reduction within a velocity range $20{\sim}40$ m/s while standard and weak coatings increased drag reduction.

A monitoring system for atmospheric CFC-12 and CFC-11 has been established at Mt. Kwan-Ak, Seoul National University (SNU) since July, 1991. The concentrations showed quite a large variation ranging from 495 to 37600 pptv (pptv=part per trillion, 10$^{-12}$ , v/v) for CFC-12 and from 233 to 12100 pptv for CFC-11 due to many local sources. However, monthly medians show rather limited ranges ; 553~765 pptv for CFC-12 and 301~431 pptv for CFC-11. Furthermore minimum concentrations could be defined relatively well during the whole period of observation. The regional background concentrations in 1993 near SNU wer estimated as 533 pptv for CFC-12 and 293 pptv for CFC-11. These values are very comparable to global averages in Northern Hemisphere, 523 pptv for CFC-12 and 287 pptv for CFC-11, reflecting the fast atmospheric mixing processes within the hemisphere. Examinations with meteorological parameters such as wind speed and direction suggest the possible measurement-window at SNU, appropriate for regional monitoring. Studies for improving the monitoring capability of the SNU station such as automation of the analysis system along with correlation with other meteorological parameters, are in progress at the present time.

The navigation algorithm developed based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) sometimes diverges when the linearity between the measurements and the states is not preserved. In this study, new update conditions together with two conditions from previous study for gravity gradient referenced navigation (GGRN) were deduced for the filter performance. Also, the effect of each update conditions was evaluated imposing the various magnitudes of the database (DB) and the sensor errors. In case the DB and the sensor errors were supposed to 0.1 Eo and 0.01 Eo, the navigation performance was improved in the eight trajectories by using part of gravity gradient components that independently estimate states located within trust boundary. When applying only the components showing larger variation, around 200% of improvement was found. Even the DB and sensor error were supposed to 3 Eo, six update conditions improved performance in at least seven trajectories. More than five trajectories generated better results with 5 Eo error of the DB and the sensor. Especially, two update conditions successfully control divergence, and bounded the navigation error to the 1/10 level. However, these update conditions could not be generalized for all trajectories so that it is recommended to apply update conditions at the stage of planning, or as an index of precision of GGRN when combine with various types of geophysical data and algorithm.
